  1. Some early commenters didn’t watch fully and it shows. It’s not about waifu > meta or casual vs hardcore, it’s about having goals and limited resources. I’m sure any waifu/husbando player would like their characters to do decent damage, which is why meta and guides exist. Even if most players don’t focus on abyss, activities like domains and weekly bosses still pose a fair challenge at times. I personally see this a lot as a Genshin co-op player. Meta should be treated like a means to an end, not the end goal itself. Sincerely, a meta player.

  2. This is what i use meta stuff for :
-I want this character, so what should i know about it ?
-How much can i do in advance on my own pace to get the resources needed to build this character?
-With wich other characters does said other one sync in teams ? Does said combo work ?

I only use it to know what i'm getting myself into or look up the numbers i should try reach with the resources that i have (most of research usually is based of your content actually), as an advisory role. I do with what i have.

At the end of the day, i honestly don't care about damage numbers, clearing times, power curves or statistics. What i want is to boot up the game, play, and have a good time with the characters I've proudly grinded for, even if they aren't top tier.

Have fun in what you think is the right way to play the game.

  3. In this game its the only content left we have at the endgame😂 my friends and me even record our speed run in floor 12 to compare to each other just to feel not bored in this game😂

  4. It is complicated, on one hand it does matter because the meta character usually cost less to invest and have a higher ceiling on performance making them the most efficient to use to clear content especially if you are not the most skilled or knowledgable about the game

On the other hand, it doesn't matter because you can clear the game with any character. That said for a low-tier character to clear the most challenging content you need either a lot of investment or 2-3 support from top-tier characters or both. So in that sense, meta characters are valuable even if you don't particularly like them just so you can use them to support whoever is your favorite, hence why although some said that there is no "must-pull character" I disagree. The right priority is to pull your favorite character then pull the best support for your favorite then the meta character so that whoever or whatever character that you like can clear any content be it in the present or future with ease

Oh and the abyss is not the only content that has meta, daily meta is underrated IMHO cuz often time you don't have to play casually everyday and want to clear daily asap so Ganyu with her infinite range, Sayu with her roling+passive, Kazuha with his passive and jump ability and Zhongli with his shield and ability to break the crystal, etc are valued and rated highly in the daily meta

But that is just me and my way of playing Genshin or any gacha game for that matter.

  5. I think its important to note that meta isnt "made" or "decided upon". Its more accurate to say it is "discovered". Like any science, meta analysis is the discovery of an objective truth.

I think its important to understand that because I hear so many people talking like meta is jist what some elite players "decided" was how youre supposed to play. Meta is just looking at a game objectively and finding out what is good, what works, and what counters it.

Whether that truth changes your decisions on how to approach the game is up yo each individual. Me being a Noelle main doesnt make her meta though, because a character's position in the meta is not decided upon by anyone. Its just fact.

  6. After a year of "you should skip character X or Y" for Kazuha, I'm on the side of meta being the problem.
I'm also aware of the irony of my statement since I have C2 Kazuha, but still in a year, I don't think I've told anyone they should pull for him.
Lately I've heard more "you should skip Yelan, Kazuha rerun is coming" than "fuck Kazuha, have you seen the boobs on Yelan" comments.

  7. I mean I do love hanging out with my friends with garbage artifacts that have very copium main choices coz thats their waifu/husbando. But I dont know if im willing to do weekly bosses 5x slower with them in my spare time. since most of us dont have the time to do, as we are all busy with our lives and might just want a quick break with genshin, I want that moment to be efficient. Resin is cringe and artifacts are pain. If I were to force my Waifu amber than to force bennett into my team, I lose a battery, healing and atk buffing. I do love amber and throwing around baron bunny, but oh my god my barely invested bennett build is doing so much work that I would just use it rather than tryharding and coping. Kudos to you if you have such time for a game thats very casual yet take you 2 hours for dailies.

  8. What I hate about meta is how often it's presented as something one should follow to a T. It's things like "build your Kazuha with triple EM, crit build is worse", "build Zhongli with 4 piece Millelith", "you have to huild Xiangling/Bennett, etc.", "this new character is bad/unnecessary because there's already this character", "don't C6 Bennett!!!!".
This is extremely annoying and alot of times only makes me want to rebell. Because why on Earth can't someone go with DPS Kazuha or Zhongli? Why do I have to suddenly build this character whom I don't like at all and whom I don't want on the team, even if they spend most of the time off-field?
If only people were more chill and less pushy when meta was concerned, then maybe meta wouldn't trigger such a negative response in a lot of people.

  9. Meta is important but genshin players use it to tell you what character is Godlike and what character is trash and will tell you that agressively. They will bash you for pulling for _ instead of _

  10. people seem to think meta players are "meta slaves", but really, some people just like big numbers and satisfying damage. people also seem to think that meta players are toxic, and all of us go "why do you play *insert off meta character*? you should play *insert meta character*", but usually people dont give a shit what others play. there are toxic people who play meta, sure, but there are also people who specifically target meta players and say "why do you play meta? just play who you like, dont go for big damage". not defending either, but i feel like meta players deserve some more respect.

  11. The toxic part of discussing the meta in the community comes from what people do with that information, not the information itself. Learning about the meta, advanced interactions and mechanics allows me to use my fav characters to clear the hardest content in the game, and have fun doing it.

  12. Meta is important in a game of limiting resources cause you will regret using thomas for shield over zhongli, you cant have everything 90 ( hell not even 10 characters) through farm due to resin unless wallet so it clearly an ingame issue, dislike saying is not needed when the game aint balance at all using meta to make other feel bad is wrong but is clearly the more optimal path in a game where it limits your resources, tao and klee over diluc, zhongli over any shield, bennette over any buffer, its just facts but you could play anything if you willing to pay enough to the stingy company, (which is something most content creators dismiss due to having more primo or extra money use from any not personal revenue)

  13. Meh. Genshin is full of liberals who are anti establishment (the establishment being the meta).

Their politics and personality go hand in hand. And very clearly all these comments on this video highlights a very distinct personality trait: "my feelings are valid and if you hurt them, i am going to hit back".

  14. No…the "meta" does not matter in Genshin at all. There isn't even PVP…I don't understand why the term is even used in context with this game. It doesn't even have solid and sustainable endgame content.

  15. Yes it matters. Just like anything else in the game, it matters. It might not matter to some, but it matters to others. People shouldn't throw aside Meta, just because it's Meta. I've been playing since day 1, and I can tell you that the two most Meta characters in the game are Zhongli and Kazuha (i dont have either, btw).

The main reason they are the most Meta is because they fit in any party and are the furthest away from niche as a character can possibly be. You can name any other two characters in the game, and you can put Kazuha and/or Zhongli on that team and the team will be extremely powerful.

You're going to have players who play with Kazuha and Zhongli ONLY because they are Meta. Even if that players hates those characters… that player will still use those character, ONLY because they are the "best". You're going to have players who know nothing about the game, but coincidentally use those two because they like them. There are players out there who genuinely love the best characters in the game, and aren't just using them because they are Meta.

Kazuha and Zhongli are the most Meta characters……. and imo, they are really the ONLY true Meta characters. You can't name another character in the game that you can randomly fit into any party, and have it be an extremely powerful party……all other characters need some sort of assistance to really get the MAXIMUM out of them. Kazuha and Zhongli are the only two that don't need any assistance to get the most of out them.

The closest any other character really gets to Zhongli and Kazuha, is Diona. She's the only Shield AND healer in the game (except C6 Zhongli).

  16. Lovely explanation and can help many to understand Genshin and not be limited in builds or play style. It is a game that is often about discovery and adventure! 🤗🙏🙇‍♂️🌸🌿

  17. Hits on a lot of good points here. The animosity towards meta is so overblown, its not toxic to say "hey making xinyan work will be harder than xiangling" and its important to understand how the game works before deciding where resources go

  18. Yep, even to a strict "waifu over meta" user like myself, learning meta analysis of a game is always important. But I don't treat it as a gospel, just a stepping stone in improving my game knowledge in how to improve the units that I like to use.

i hate xianling and i will never ever use her no matter how strong she is because i can 36* abyss with eyes closed

  20. I'm not hostile towards theory crafters. I just don't like single minded meta slaves who have the "character A and B should be built this way and be paired with character C and D. Anything else other than that is not optimal and you're not doing it right" mentality like their opinion is a fact and is the only way. Meta slaves can't think for themselves. In my experience with games, the meta doesn't make them fun for me since everyone will have the exact same thing (build, characters, team comps etc) and makes things dull. There's less room for diversity and creativity since most people cater to the mainstream meta. Respect to the people who take their time to build their favorite characters/comps to tackle abyss and still manage to get all the stars with their off meta build. I wish everyone was more like them.

  21. I have been leveling anemo characters especially xiao and I always run mono anemo on abyss and got 36 stars everytime meanwhile my friend who has c3 ayaka and a hu tao c1 with homa wasn't able to get 36 abyss so idk how relevant is meta in genshin.

  22. yes meta is useful, but what i've seen so far was like this…

imagine i want to ask meta player "what is diluc best team? and what artifact set should i use?"
I CLEARLY ASKING ABOUT DILUC, and you know what's the answer?
"wHy UsE DiLuC iF yOu HaVe XiAngLiNg"

i just… idk. just wtf bro idgaf about xiangling, i want to play Diluc, and i ask you respectively ABOUT DILUC not xiangling

And probably you should tell your meta friends to not do that behaviour, if they asked you for certain chara, please answer it, not dragging them to use another chara. EXCEPT they asked you about "what team should i use to beat certain content?" then you tell em your beloved xiangling

I feel ljke meta is very forced atleast from my griends but I dont care much for it

  24. The only content you can´t clear with non Meta teams or characters is the Abyss at 36 stars or max rewards on whale events that have absurd dps and time requirements.
There is also no pvp and coop is completly optional. The only time where interacting with other players may be beneficial is when you´ve just unlocked max reward artifact domains and you can´t clear them on your own yet due to lack of invested characters.
After you´ve put enough ressources and time into your team you can clear that stuff without having any issues at all.
Genshin is a long term game regardless of your choice and there is no point in forcing yourself to play a certain way if you don´t enjoy it especially in a game that has 0 competitive aspects. Have fun, that´s the only requirement for this game.

    – A player that has C6 Xingqiu, C6 Bennett (I dont care that you shouldn´t enable his last const) and a C3 Diluc forever benched and working in the slave mines at level 20. They gave me one free wish at ascension rank 1 and that´s enough for me.

  25. I learned the hard way that meta doesn't matter unless you run Abyss to 36🌟.

And Abyss a sweaty gamer trap.

The moment realized this, I feel free of stress and stopped going to Reddit.

  26. I personally do not enjoy the "this unit is broken etc must pull etc" of the meta. I like all the theory crafting for sure because it's interesting to me but the rest… bwark.
As someone that pulled Kokomi on her first banner, I remember vividly what it was like to be a Kokomi player at that time because of what the meta said about her (influencers, TC etc); we want it or not, meta also creates a very toxic effect on players that want to show off. That effect almost made me quit the game.
In my opinion, yes you have to take in account that your ressources are limited and manage your time on the game (because work, life, friends, family etc) but, also, play who you want ! I have seen Amber mains doing amazing solo boss rush etc because they like this character, have invested in her, learn her mechanics etc. So, you can say that I am a "Fun>Meta" type of player ? I don't know.

In the end, I like to watch abyss runs with "weird" teams, read/watch guides on characters (even the one I don't have because I learn new things this way) but I always skip the "is …. worth pulling ?" XD.

  27. for me, the genshin "meta" is really just concerned about the playability and survivability of spiral abyss. From what I can see, we don't need the meta to progress in the game, that is, if we only care about the open world and the story system of Genshin Impact. Additionally, with a mind of a seller, the concept of meta is made to compel players to buy their product. Am I saying spending money for a game is bad? Well, that would depend on the person now, but for me, as someone who is financially unstable, having the feeling that we need to spend money in order to have "meta" is not truly worth it in the long run. This is a pet peeve of mine against MiHoYo, and that's the RNG system of the artifacts.

I believe a good set of artifacts will even make "non-meta" characters good, but then again, this threatens the marketability of "meta characters" like Ayaka. So, while it's not unethical to spend money for a game, we all must understand that MiHoYo, as a business, will of course integrate things in their free game that will generate income, and thus to be able to operate.

I find it funny though, that, as I said that the meta is mostly concerned with spiral abyss, f2p players are more prone to this kind of scheme than p2w. Ideally, f2p would play spiral abyss for primogems, but if they only have A-tier characters with half-decent artifacts, then hypothetically, they wouldn't be able to pass all the floors (except if skill is enough and/or just plain luck), and thus being unable to save more primogems for whatever character or weapon they want to pull for. Hence, some of them would prolly feel the need to pull for a meta character, and if their in-game primos can't deliver the amount of pulls needed, then they'll prolly feel the need to spend money.

This is just an analysis that I came up in regards to meta–that is most likely faulty. Please do share your thoughts about this, guys AHAHAHA.

  28. I just want my favorite characters to do decent in their respective roles and not be limited to just one character or an element, which is why I dislked what they did with most characters in Inazuma but besides that I don't care about meta, which is why my Raiden will forever stay at level 1. If I don't like a character, I won't bother building them.

    Reply
  29. Why would you care about the meta in a game which only gives you 150 primos for clearing its hardest content (aka Floor 12 and maybe 11)
It's simply not worth the time, effort and money

  30. Meta in genshin has never mattered you can clear all the content in the game at the starter characters other than the event with the three Maguu Kenki there's never been anything that can challenge oppose us once we get a team at with max levels and ok artifacts
