What Genshin's Alternative Outfits Do RIGHT (from a design perspective)

Reviewing the updated designs for Amber, Jean, Rosaria, and Mona that were added during Genshin Impact’s 2.4 update. In general I found them to be well designed and personally really like what they bring the game.

  1. basically: censorship bad but new designs very good

The mhy art team has proven time after time to be extremely talented, so I’m not really worried that these new restrictions will hinder their creativity

  2. After roaming around with the new outfits, I began to slowly fall in love with them, Rosaria looking like a badass with black, Amber being more I guess fun? idk lol, and Mona having more blue than purple, but the only thing Im upset about is how Mona is actually in shorts, and not a cute skirt like I thought from the concept, I was dissapointed, but other than that, good design, bad reason

  3. Even if not a fan of all the new skins, they all are great, free, and we can change between the new and old whenever we want, so i see it as a win win situation (only downside is the cutscenes will use new ones, but well, we can't have everything ig)

  4. This is an optimistic aspect of the incident, it’s nice to see characters have more outfits to represent their personalities. But as a CN server player I just can’t get over the fact that mihoyo was forced to make these redesigns, it happened on such short notice that the changes were made the same day as 2.4 was out, led to the fact that almost everyone in CN community was angry and frustrated, everyone was talking about it and no one wanted to pay attention to how beautiful enkanomiya is.
I just hope that any change on the characters they make in the future, is because they want to, not because they have to.

  5. I wholeheartedly agree with your video! I understand a lot of people's upset, but I don't get why they're SO upset about it, or even blaming Mihoyo for the censorship problems when it's likely very much outside the company's control, as it's China's law system or whatever making it happen.

Amber's new outfit, while the least changed, is actually pretty nicely done, subtle as it may be. It looks more formal, official-Outrider-y, and more streamlined compared to the original.
I love Rosaria's new outfit a lot, though I do think they should've kept the fishnets in there as I feel it added much more rebellious-like character to her design lol. I love the black tones, and the asymmetrical legwear.
Mona's new outfit is SO much nicer for me, because I always heavily disliked the combo of those leggings and the leotard. It made her legs look absurdly and awkwardly long compared to the rest of her body, and her ass was in full view which felt weird for me when I played her (while now it's more or less similar to Rosaria's little teaser, if that makes sense).
Jean's is my favorite; it makes her look much more regal like she should be as the Dandelion Knight. <3

  6. I've always said Yanfei looks like a dancer or volleyball player much more than a lawyer and I'd be very, VERY happy to see a redesign.

Specially her wool filled shoes! That's gotta make them sweat a ton can you imagine the SMELL after a whole day visiting clients and talking with business owners all around Liyue MY GOD.

  7. I wasn't sold on Amber's new outfit at first, but it grew on me very fast. The bigger focus on reds, black and gold really make the outfit pop!
Rosaria's new outfit does a really good job of portraying her character compared to the old one. It's clear what her occupation is now, even after dark! Also it's so badass!

  8. Jean and Rosaria are my favorite outfits with my least favorite being Amber's outfit but I'm glad Mona's outfit wasn't that disgusting beta one.
I'm definitely switching Jean's outfit but I'll keep everyone else's outfit the same just because of "preference."

  9. Lets see, rosaria I find thematically interresting and dont have much against it as an alternate option, but I think it breaks the character having it as the only option, Amber's just looks better I love the extra black and gold…. and just all of it, with Jean I see the og outfit as her normal work attire and the new one as something she would wear during an important meeting or things like that…. and mona's just looks off to me

  10. I just really hope they fix Jeans alt skin's pants, they look like a blank canvas rn lol. The new outfit is really detailed aswell, so it's really stands out when the bottom part of her isn't at all

  11. Free cool skins nice but the reason for this is dog shit fuck the Chinese government (and no it may look like I care about these certain details that they had to cover but no I couldn't care less if it wasn't in the name of censorship. even If we have the option not to use the new skins the people in China have to and that's not right at all)

  12. I like Rosaria's! I'm just why did they have to nerfed her bust size AGAIN with the update…. 🤣Please leave her alone, she wasn't that top heavy after the cutscene model nerf the first time. 😵 As a reference, she the same size as Jean now…

  13. i’m very much hoping that if anyone else gets a redesign it’s sucrose, because i adore her + main her, but her design doesn’t match her personality or job at all 🙁

  14. A lil concerned with Mona's outfit cuz the reason for her leotard is to be like a wet-suit, in that it doesn't show as much skin to allow water to get into undesired places, and also so it doesn't hold as much water overall like a one-piece swim suit.

  15. The new alt outfits are ok I like rosaria sm more with the black crown and actual pants vs the fish nets. Idk why but I don’t really like the under shirt being black on jean. Amber barley looks changed and mona original outfit is way better imo

  16. Mihoyo's decision with these new skins remind me of Moonton's hero designs through time – quite a lot of the old hero pre-revamped designs (especially the ladies) were much more suggestive than today. I'm wondering if Mihoyo will eventually go down a similar path, too.
