Seeing things from all sides, I understand the frustration, but I also understand the apathy. Genshin Impact has always had this problem, and Hoyoverse will continue this trend forever.

I do also believe that this is a colorism/racism issue. Just moreso a xenophobia issue regarding culture, which I felt was not being addressed.
The point about the culture issue is mostly that I feel no one would really bring this up if it weren’t for the culture stealing, as many gacha games have representation issues, esp Hoyo, and it’s rarely brought up.
Its a culture AND color issue.
Taking the culture from the original people who made it, just to only make them the enemy npcs is a red flag.
Specially when they dress up characters that represents their beauty standards, to then dress them in that stolen culture. Who you would use to kill said enemy.
Sounds like the purpose of skins, or why skins were created to begin with. It's a good take, if you take inspiration from something it's not inherently wrong to change things as to be different.
But when you're making everything the same, the big questions comes in pretty quick 😅
People need to stop acting like Hoyoverse will ever care or change. You either deal with it or stop playing, I stopped playing almost a year ago so I'm good.
I'm a world-builder with intention of one day making a game in UE5, my source material also has these issues of using random cultures and disregarding it beyond the name. (made by NCsoft, korean company) and I think the best way is to simply make content that's more suited to your tastes. For example after playing FFXIV I wanted something better, put my chin up and started working on it.
but the truth is all of these things take skills and esp if you wish to monetise them it becomes a reality check to a point where you might even end up doing the thing Miyoho does. Al lot of these heavy representation focused otome games ended up failing both due to poor marketing and the owners of said project. (i really need to find out the name for that one again it'd be such a fun video to think about)
draw the characters with designs you like more, make content with characters you like more, don't be afraid to cosplay a character just bc it's pale and you are not.
I don't think the edits are an issue either but it's a honeytrap for hate, better off actually drawing it yourself instead.
Now I think of it, we didn't have any concept art leaked this time around…what if, and this a tinfoil hat moment mind you, but what if it turns out a lot of these characters looked different in their concept early art?
There's only two things that matters for Genshin devs; Liyue & your wallet.
Am I upset about this? No. Genshin is just a Chinese gacha video game. Their game doesn't represent the real world, it's just pure fiction and I expect it to be treated as fiction. I wouldn't recommend looking to their game for cultural significance. If I were to learn about another culture, I'd recommend looking up actual resources to learn from.
Every gaming boycott is a 3 minute trailer away from failing
hoyo does something controversial: …
twitter Warriors: complains
hoyo: what you gonna do about it?
players: we give them more money!
its amazing.
The chinese ppl LOVES to scream at anyone who steal their culture but when it comes to their own people they will never own up to it
on their social media if anyone so much as enjoy some dark skinned characters the majority of them will say why are you conforming to “politically correct” characters. Yes i know 💀
7:10, it does have something to do with you, and everyone else who supports hoyos' other games, even if you dont play genshin.
Think of it this way. You have to choose between two people to live with the rest of your life. One you've known the since childhood, he's been with you through thick and thin, but youve seen him in the dark. He's toxic and has no respect for people. But you fell in love with his old self. Now the other, he's a prince, sure he's made mistakes because of his naivety, but he corrects himself and asks for forgiveness.
Now when you lean towards the prince, youre childhood friend tries to get inbetween by changing "his ways", and you fell for it. Now you live with someone you regret.
Thats the same with Hoyo. No matter how many new things they do, deep down they never changed, well we know that. But people are still supporting them, even if indirectly. Sure theyre separate developers, but an apple does not fall far from the tree.
Now you can say im a kuro shii, cuz thats all you can argue back but, with kuro, they listen. they make mistakes, and fix it.
Now which one seems "better" to support? someone who listens or doesnt.
BUT this is deeper than that, its also a fact that you needa actually like the game. With kuro's games its more mature and has the same feelings you get when you play fromsoft games, or a level below. While hoyo games are chill like disney.
So its each to their owns discretion.
To me kuro's games just aligned with ne as im a combat enthusiast, so its easier for me to support, especially knowing that they'll listen.
I can only imagine what its like to be a hoyo slave even if u dont play genshin.
My thing is, can’t we just enjoy the things we like and not worry about stuff like this? Not according to Twitter
Its 100% skin color issue, you know it, i know it, everyone's here know it, if most of Natlan characters that Hoyoverse show in the Natlan trailer is dark skin, everyone here will zip their mouth about culture thing and will not talk about that.
They dont even know anyone is talking about it sheilded behind communism. And cn players make our spending look insignificant.
The one thing that wasn't mentioned that I think should be is that skin color prejudice is a thing in virtually all of Asia. The whiter / paler you are, the better, and vice versa. It propagates certain stereotypes about ethnicity and race and Hoyo panders to that. Whether it's Hoyo's social responsibility to combat that stigma is hugely up for debate and I don't have an answer. But they certainly aren't helping.
I don't find it offensive. I found it boring
Penacony in HSR not having a single playable character with some skin color, despite them also taking stories of oppression of minorities for their stories and their worldbuilding….
Even from a design standpoint, the clothes and tribal tattoos, etc., of the 5.0 characters look better with darker skin….
The genshin community is going to c6 them regardless so hoyo doesn't really care as long as they make bank
often times, people are oblivious to the fact that Whites do not only exist in the so called "western" world….Persia and many Mid Eastern empires were genetically white dominant (thus Christianity vs Islam crusade was often whites killing off each other), Egyptian ruling class were often white (world-famous Cleopatra for instance), current India has been roughly 10% white genetically.
People use the word racism like its going out of style especially something like this is how i can tell people spend too much time online 💀
disney black mermaid, how it fell?
Gen Z is SO MAD that Asian countries LOVE white people and are not woke. All anime characters look white, all their video game charatcers look white, and it ENRAGES Zoomers and liberals. They are so used to turning every character black or trans or some shit and Asia is not having any of that LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO000
Gen Z be like: Only white people can be racist
Gen Z also be like: This Chinese-made game is so racist!!!!!!
i think the designs are fine, people are blowing smoke for zero reason and need to calm down
we should instead be raising our pitchforks for how awful the new "end game" content is and asking for better end game content (ideally a sim uni but in genshin sorta)
the part of twitter i greatly despise are the "artists" who take the official key art of the character and change their skin tone to fit their nasty narrative. dude, that's just straight up being racist, yet no one seems to think so. and the people that are calling out that shitty behavior, end up being called racist, which is asinine.
worry about the characters being fun to play/functional instead
Im sorry this take is so dumb we know hoyo isn’t going to change we’re just expressing our opinions? It’s like telling someone who is saying drugs shouldn’t exist and they know drugs will always exist to js stop expressing their opinion in the matter cs there’s no point? Idk why every cc is saying this like it’s generally annoying
Anyone who has any actual knowledge about China and its history already knew this was going to be the case. People in the west can cry and moan all they want. They don't care. Literally the only reason we have ANYONE with any sort of "non white", is because one of their higher ups have it as a fetisch. If one of the higher ups didn't have it, we wouldn't have it at all. The faster one gets this through their head, the easier it will be for their psyche. If you don't like it? Quit. It will not change. Even if the west suddenly outearns China. It would not change.
i don't care.
I'm not infected with DEI mind virus so… I'm fine with whatever they're showing.
Más razones para darle mi dinero a Hoyoverse. Gracias a Dios que no hacen caso a los enfermos de Twitter
Exact same people who are complaining about "cultural appropriation" have cheered on black Hestia, Cleopatra and Yasuke.
Not even joking. You can go on their profiles and have an endless stream of "This you?" moments.
