If everything was sunshine and rainbows all the time how boring and stale that would that be. I like Scaramouches character because of his flaws, it makes for a more interesting story/world for me

Well, this has been going on for a VERY long time. The EN community is pretty delayed on this “news”.
In CN, there is a group of people on the internet who are just waiting to storm the next popular topic with disgusting things. Their goal is “look our disgusting way of interpreting your favorite stuff”.
The actual CN Genshin community spent a lot of effort to fight against these people, and this drama/incident was managed by combined effort of communities and artists.
Remember the Sonic prize incident? Remember what happened when the CN community joined the vote? The CN community has angels, but they also have demons. The difference between CN and other communities around the world, is that the CN community is EXTREME in both good and evil.

One time, while I was scrolling on facebook, I saw an ad with recommended products from a site with a Nahida nude pody pillow. I couldn't believe me eyes. I was thinking " who the hell is buying something like that?" and in my shock, they were already many buyers ( I dont remember the exact number, but they were many). I do not believe Scara's low re-run sales tanked so much mainly because of a very small, but also very loud and unhinged group of people.
I think its more likely that the current meta isnt suited for him, like with Xiao, and also its the banner right before 4.0.
