I KNEW it was something about the music, I just felt dread, impending doom and all that, I KNEW Xiao's emo ass would try some heart wrenching shit like that. :'<
Without even knowing the song and knowing Xiao gets saved beforehand it still had me in a chokehold seeing the cutscene when i got through that part😂

If Xiao dies I'm starting a protest, idc if you kill any other character but if you hurt Xiao, kaveh or Nahida you will feel me wrath
For people saying someone will definetely die, as for now they can't and won't kill playable characters because Genshin ≠ Honkai Impact.
Also even if in Honkai Impact they killed playable characters they still had a "excuse" ready as to why you are able to play as them even after death.
Genshin doesn't for now, so they won't kill any playable character unless there's a way to explain why you can still play with them even if they aren't actually in your team Lore speaking.
In Honkai there's a reason why playable people are dead but still able to use, in Genshin no, majority of the people won't be satisfied with the "yeah they are dead but you can still use them even if we won't explain how that work", they either create a plot explaining why dead characters are still something you can use, bring them back to life or not killing them at all.
Also Lisa dying was a plot they had in mind before the game was released but a worker confirmed that the plot of Lisa dying because she learned something that decreased her lifespan confirmed it's not Canon anymore, they dropped the idea before the game started.
The Xiao one was on major key, I think?
And this is the reason I don’t like Genshins story that much anymore. They don’t kill off playable characters

Seriously though, I also thought Xiao would be killed in that cutscene. Everything that happened during the quest seems to imply something will happen to him. And yeah, I also noticed the tune similarity.
In a way, I was actually expecting they actually would. What I want to see in Genshin Right now is for any playable character to be killed. It can actually add some depth in the story. In HI3rd fandom, everyone's always on edge over who will end up getting killed next.
Bruh they would never kill a playable charcter because then thye cqnt put him in events or banners and it makes no sense to the people who have him

A lot of characters already suffer from their past/backstories so killing them off is just being sadist.
