The truth about Wuthering waves (beta test review)

The truth about Wuthering Waves (CBT Honest review), is it really just a genshin impact clone? i think this is the BIGGEST topic after the CBT right now, since most people actually think it is too similar to genshin impact, as a long term genshin CC, let me talk about this topic as well

  1. Compare the CBT with the CBT. You're comparing a fully finished game with a CBT that the developers are taking feedback into consideration and are trying to improve. Plus the games are in the same genre, what do you expect them to look like? Genshin wasn't the first to create such a game. Since you're playing PGR, just to let you know, their CBT and release was different, including the gacha system. The combat is also noticeably different from Genshin.

  2. I enjoy a lot exploring map in Genshin Impact especially Sumeru region (my favourite now ) ,and world don't looks gray all of time every region (or sub-region) have different colours.
And if they realise card game in WuWa it's will be funny 😂

  3. the grind in Genshin is so bad. PGR grind doesn't feel nearly as bad.
Genshin gacha is absolute bullshit. PGR gacha rates feel absurdly generous, though getting the currency to do pulls as a f2p is a different story. Genshin f2p is still worse because the grind is bad.

I really do hope that They lean into their really good and refined systems they have with PGR rather than just copying Genshin. im already on and off with genshin because its frustrating but its the only gacha game out of its kind with its quality, im still hoping WW can be PGR but open world with some Action hack n slash tweaks from AAA Action games like Nier or DMC.

They beat the Honkai 3rd copy cat allegations, they can be better than hoyoverse again.
More PGR, less genshin PLEASE devs. ToT

  4. As a Genshin player the fact that it’s really similar to Genshin but it’s not Genshin is actually what makes me really want to play traversing and exploring the world is much easier with the mechanics in Wuthering Waves than Genshin that’s really really exciting honestly I love exploring I 100% every region but with Genshin Impact it can be tedious at times just because of the mechanics of the game as much as I love world of the game overall I’m just really looking forward to WW it’ll be nice to have another game to play along with Genshin

  5. Not planning to play this but in terms of story you might be missing some things by design since I assume the dev would want to avoid spoilers to some degree.

  6. I would say it far more combat than genshin plus genshin player need to chill, we just wanted to experience new games these days. Don't just think genshin is far better even genshin still isn't improve tho. Of course We want new games, new combat, new experience also challenging in the future not only WW. We all just tired to play the same game every year lol, we need new games with new graphics these days. Would play WW in the future

  7. I see so many people calling wuthering waves a clone of genshin like genshin isn’t a breath of the wild clone. Genshin isn’t some super original game

  8. the only thing I feel weird about WW is it dedicated fanbase, they have no problem bashing other game cough…Genshi…cough, but the moment you said WW copy Genshin they lose their shit and start throwing insult left and right

  9. Your review is so good. Comparing to those who just goes "this game is shit" or "this game is lit", you talked about every pros and cons and even give out really good suggestions.
As a player who's been playing PGR for almost 3 years, I do have hope in Kuro, PGR also was said to be like Honkai when it first came out, but they do form their unique style in the future, and usually Kuro are much more generous with their gatcha system, another reason why I'm willing to spend a few money on PGR. I really can't wait for the release, but from the current state, I have a feeling it's gonna take another 2~3 years, or even longer.
Kuro is a really small company compare to Mihoyo, so I hope people can be patient and give them some time.

  10. I mean it's not even a question, genshin is a copy of Zelda, WW being a "copy" of Genshin doesn't bother me at all, especially that i always wanted an openworld since PGR !
But if they have to copy, they should also take some good design from other openworld too.

  11. Why play WW then Genshin? 1. No F.cking anoying PAIMON 2.New interesting things to explore 3.Possibility of some End game 4. harder and more fun bosses 5. Its a game not a story book like genshin.
Look i dont say that Genshin is bad game, i stop playing when Liyue was released and recently i try to play again but its booring and easy and sadly i dont care about story since paimon keeps interupting the mood with her anoying voice. Also i dont feel im the MC ,more like im a stupid guard dog for the paimon so i lost interest in story and just click trough the dialog to avoid paimons voice. Then there is the issue with Deyha which pissed me off a lot cuz i spend my gems and money for that character and its unusable.

  12. The term genshin clone is at least ridiculous, remember that genshin was nothing more than a copy of zelda breath of the wild with an incredible money-making mechanic called gacha.

anyway, ww will be incredible, i'm looking forward to playing.

  13. the point about learning from Elden Ring actually depends a lot on whether Kuro wants the game to have a big reach like Genshin. It's no secret that Genshin get this popular because it's easy. Sweaty and tryhard gamers may mald all they want, but it's the being easy and simple that got Genshin where it is today, casual players love its simplicity.

I'd even argue that the current state of combat of WW will mean it won't reach the popularity of Genshin. It may be good from a "gamer" perspective, but it won't appeal to the more casual audience.

  15. how you judging movement mechanics as if wuthering waves should have done something different? It's like saying every other game should now have something going on, maybe fly on land and walk on air? man you stupid.

  16. First of all, Oh No. I really want Wuwa to be good, and I hope that they can lean into the combat more, as you say, to have the game form its own identity. Watching the clips you put up, seeing how amazing the combat looks, only makes me more excited to play. I think in the original teaser footage, characters like Chixia looked incredibly stiff and awkward, but now I think they've really been nailing their style as time goes on. The NPCs in Wuwa have more drip than many 5*s in Genshin, honestly. If Wuwa releases and not much is changed about the open world, to be honest, I might play it anyway just because I dropped genshin a while ago because of how garbage it's gotten and how boring the endgame grind has become.

I know that it's a farfetched idea, but with the release of Tears of the Kingdom (TotK), it would be really cool if the Wuwa team could learn from that open world design, as I think the combat in TotK is really frequent and honestly pretty fun. There are tons of enemy encampments which, as TenTen said, would normally get boring, but there are conditions surrounding them that make each encounter novel. Terrain changes have a large effect on how combats feel to play, whether the terrain helps the player avoid enemy attacks, hinders your ability to maneuver, have huge cliffs you can't path into, helps/hinders sightlines, has extreme darkness, etc. The enemies build different feeling camps, and sometimes there's treasure hidden in that cave somewhere weird. Even though TotK has very few enemy types, combat is not very repetitive because of factors like that (and because your weapons are changing all the time). They even have things like an enemy horde with a healthbar in a dungeon that's interesting to navigate. Things like this are good not only for combat, but for worldbuilding. You can see how these creatures made a little place for themselves to live, and you make a map of it in your head as you slaughter them.

Also, 2 tiny examples from TotK that are just seelies but better: timed ring koroks and glowing target koroks.
The timed ring koroks have a destination marked with a ring that ticks down. These direct a player to go somewhere without feeling like a shitty escort mission, and they instead feel tense and exciting, and there's also some kinda shit reward at the end. This works so well that they do it with shrines, too. A sequence of rings that you have to path through without loosing speed to successfully get the reward. If they were to be adapted as a true seelie replacement, they don't even have to be timed. Just don't waste player time in following a target that's so slow that Tenten is literally facing his camera backwards to see if the butterflies are still there. Give them the respect of just marking where they need to go and letting them get there as fast as they can.
The glowing target koroks make the player reach a certain location without touching the ground. These are less difficult puzzles, less interesting, but at least you're not awkwardly staggering your glide like in Genshin, following a slow ass blue light. You're going full speed because you don't know if you're gonna have enough height or speed to make it to the target. These forms would work Even better in Wuwa than they do in TotK because Wuwa has more expressive movement options.
If they want to do the genshin thing and make seelies with weird paths that activate mechanisms and stuff, then that's fine. They can keep that with butterflies because that is a fundamentally different puzzle than holding the player's hand while you tell them to walk forward, take a right at the big tree, then wait until 3:15 by the pedestal.

  17. Ok. The User interface looks soo similar to Genshin.

That's something they could have done differently without being worse.

Open world being similar to Genshin is actually a good thing. Genshin (and ofc BOTW) developed and polished this really interactive open world exploration system and there is no point in not using it.

  18. Oh about Seele mechanics. Genshin Impact actually started using seele as more of a guide to hidden and hard to find paths.

And in the way, seele are a lot more useful

  19. Weathering waves have a dark theme and the character looks more mature than genshin , i was also a day 1 genshin player but it's been over a year since I didnt even touched that game because it's gotten too childish for me not my cup of tea ..

Yeah a lot of things in WW are similar but i will play WW just for the story and for its dark and more mature theme ..

WW will have a more mature audience than genshin impact …

It's like the same two tshirt but one has Disney princesses print and the other one has Metallica shit .. Now the choice is yours ..

  20. Personaly I do not like how the game looks. And I dont mean the grafics but the colour palette of the world depresses me. The same is also relevent to PGR. That is literaly THE reson I stoped playing PGR. I am casual and I play games not to try hard but to brake away from the mundane grey world. And here they are offering us… the same grey f*cking world. Stuff like that is ok in liniar games but not in open world games. Even Breath of the Wild as postapocaliptic as it is is not as depressing as this world

  21. The traversing mobility of that in Wuthering Waves is very similar to Ys 9 Monstrum Nox's, namely Heaven's Run (vertical running) and Crimson Line (grappling hook points) which I very much appreciate in Kuro's decision of including. Combine it with MH Rise's wirebug and that would totally be a game changer for world exploration!
