The Rise Of “Exclusive” Support Characters | Genshin Impact

Recent units in Genshin Impact, particularly supports, have brought with them movesets that are meant to be used in tandem with specific characters, elements and playstyles, contrasting day one support units that were meant to be more generalistic in nature. Today I wanted to discuss the presence of Exclusive Supports in Genshin Impact and whether they’re good or bad for the game.

  1. I think Sara and Gorou are way better design than Bennett, but stuff like Dori or Candace have no reason for being as weak as they are, compared to what the rest of the cast does. Shenhe and Nilou are what we call Luxury units rather than niche supports, they only exist to reward those players that already have every other 5* needed for their teamcomps, Nahida and Kokomi for Nilou, Ayaka and Kokomi for Shenhe, etc. Which is fine because they get to be the best team at some sort of specific content, but don't really overshadow generalist teamcomps like fwd/rev vape, overvape, taser, etc. which all can do good single target or aoe content, or get spots for groupers without losing damage.

  2. I don't like exclusive supports for the sheer fact that I'm restricted to use this one character, and no one else, forever (because a full alternative will come either never or in like 5 years). I'm not a big fan of animal ears and Gorou's personality, so I'm forced to either suck it up and use a char i don't like, or spend additional resources on farming ridiculously cracked artifacts for Itto to run him without Gorou. Either is frustrating, I would much prefer if Gorou didn't exist and I could just choose freely from the pool of available generalist supports.

  3. I really just want them to change the resin system. Like seriously, if they removed the cap on Condensed resin or make it so we can save up a week's worth of Condensed resin so we can use them on Sunday, it would be a hell of a lot easier to build our characters. It would still force players to play every day, which is what Hoyo wants, but it wouldn't break the game. I don't see why they're so restrictive on so many features where half of them don't even make sense. It's bad enough we don't get proper rewards for the countless hours we've put into this game. At least make some of the gameplay easier.

  4. Hoping for a future exclusive geo support that creates a different geo reaction, it would be so cool if they could go the avatar way of creating a char that can produce metal.

  5. 8:00 I get that but i don't see garbage in eula raiden team (my main team) All i see is usefull shield and side overload bonus. (Lets not mention againts Pyro enemies Xinyan feels like zhongli but the shield bites back).

  6. I think it's not too bad. Sure, bennet will always be good for attack based teams but characters like Sara and Gorou can bring more to the table in specialized comps when it comes to damage so it actually gives players the choice to build universal supports or really develop a single strong team. The issue is just the c6 thingy, locking so much of saras potentially behind her cons means that unless you really roll on the raiden banner the specialized support will still be worse than the general ones..

  7. i love it that we can have different characters with same thing.. like Xinyan and thoma = pyro shield. And now layla and diona = cryo shield. etc. And kuki is really awesome in hyperbloom. And ngl i like it that there is characters who works with only x-system. but as a f2p its damn hard to think who is good in A and B team in abyss when u need 1 type in both teams.
yeah… ofc dmg numbers are important too but if i like someone i really dont care that much. Ofc i wish that sucrose is as good as kazuha is. And mine bennett is c4 and i really thing that if he gets c6 do i active it od i just leave it. he is awesome in anyteam… but do i want him do same thing what chonyun (Cryo) and candace (hydro) do….

1 dps and 3 supports per team.. meanwhile my first good team was rosaria (main phys dps), jean(sub phys dps), ayato (hydro dps) and benentt 😀

  8. Me who strickly uses Chongyun and Xinqui together for… Syngergy reasons: "Interesting…"
(it is kinda fun though to pull a lot of enemies in with Kazuha and then keep freeze breaking the enetire group mid air)

Also, my brain just realized how Gorou and Yun Jin are supports perfectly crafted for Noelle…

  9. Imo kokomi WAS buffed by a yes character. by Shenhe. she's the whole reason freeze teams need a hydro healer. bcs before shenhe the healer would be the cryo unit not the hydro (Diona)

  10. I think the worst part is just characters that are too weak outside their niche, and they massively reduce the chances of getting actually usable characters. If I started playing now and my 4* roster looked like this:
    Traveler
    Amber
    Kaeya
    Lisa
    Noelle
    Xinyan
    Gorou
    Collei
    Dori
    The Bell
    Rainslasher
    Eye of Perception

    I would quit

  11. I'm kinda happy that so many characters are shit. It means that I can just forget and skip them when they show on the banner. I have started wishin on the weapon banner bcs nobody is worth pulling for beside the 1.0 cast.

  12. 3:44 Huh?! How's Thoma a bad dedicated support?! Now that Dendro and Nahida are out, Thoma has a meaningful Place in the meta. Heck, even before Dendro, Thoma was a very competent shield support, having the 2nd strongest shield in the game and being able to replace Zhongli in most teams that needed a shielder. Sure, he had and still has problems, but it's not impossible to work around these problems, unlike some other units.

  13. “Most ES units are 4 stars so it’s easy to get them & their constellations”

Kujou Sara (who has been on a grand total of 2 banners since she released over a year ago) disagrees.. while she’s off banner it’s literally harder to get ONE of her then a 5 star, let alone 6 of her to unlock her full potential.

  14. That's is why now I played with my alt account more than my main account. So much fun and diversity in gameplay to play niche/underrated unit. But for more QoL then any of you should invest to meta/generalist unit lol just saying.

12:28 i gotta be honest, while it's true that amber can do big numbers, i cannot deny her lack of power most of the times. You're correct, i do wish she had more power, though just to make her decent… Cause it can take my "hard mode" away from me lmao

  16. I think this direction is great and better than straight up power creep, Nilou is also Fine because she can have a nice team even with free units (dendro MC barbara and Coilei) so if you get her she will ALWAYS have a team.
I hope they release a support who super buffs charge shots (and makes Amber OP on that team)

I'm also fine with heavy team restrictions, except for breaking shields in the spiral abyss, Nilou teams suffer too much vs Cryo shield enemies as both hydro and dendro don't do much vs Cryo.
