One of my friends mains thoma and runs pjw bc it matches his eyes, he’s her pride and joy ahahaha, I’m honestly surprised he’s not a bigger main, his character is so popular but i guess its just more that he’s more of a support for ayato mains?
Thing is it costs as much resources to raise a 4star as it does to raise a 5star. So why would i waste my resources when my supports are build? No onfield 4star dps will ever outperform a 5star dmg wise
I love Thoma. I have him at C6 and pulled Xiao just for him. I regret nothing.
WHERE IS DPS DIONA?
I mained Ningguang in my early days, until Hu Tao came. I love Hu Tao so much I triple crowned her, with C1 and a Staff of Homa. So yes, I main Hu Tao for the longest time until Ganyu rerun. I triple crowned Cocogoat as well but I don't have Amos Bow so Skyward Harp for her. And then Raiden and Yae Miko. I currently main Yelan. She's just so fun to play with but my most cracked character would be my baby funeral director Hu Tao.

About Barbara mains and Amber mains you are correct, but Thoma mains and Yunjin mains you are missing the mark just a tad bit. I agree that people like what they like no mater if its powerful or not, but with these two it comes down to fun factor that is hurting them. In all cases of "I main X character" the bottom line is that the player has to have "fun" using them in game or they will not main them no matter how much they like them (well for most people anyway).
So as an additional reason (other than the ones you listed) for Thoma and Yunjin having the lease amount of people maxing them out and crowning them (your criteria for a main as well as playing them primarily) is because they lack in the fun department.

Oops! Editing this because I forgot to state who I main. I am a Ningguang main.
I've mained Albedo since I got him as my very first 5 star. I just like his feel and playstyle, plus his va is so calming. But, that being said, up until this day I have only ever met one other dedicated albedo main.
I co-op A LOT (and I mean A LOT) and realised from pure observation theres a 4 horseman of 'basic binch' mains (Xiao, Hu Tao, Ganyu, and Ayaka), and that there really is huge difference in mains, kins, and havers. I tend to get along/have fun with the most with people with more unique mains because they just plain have more personality and sense of identity 🤣
Obviously not EVERYONE falls under basic b, but from my personal observation 98% users of the 4 horseman tend to be no fun bc they just want their instant gratification in big numbers than interesting/skillful gameplay (shout out to Yun Jin, Beidou, Xinyan, and Lisa mains y'all are the real ones)
Most of these are spot on but u may be looking in the wrong places for Thoma mains. They're mostly casuals on twitter and don't seem to engage with the youtube scene, they would rather engage with the game by looking at Thoma-shipping fanart and reading fanfiction. spend enough time looking at genshin discussions in that site and you'll notice there's actually a good number of self proclaimed Thoma mains out there.
I used to be a kaeya main and trust me I still use him regularly to 36* abyss
My main is Chongyun just because he's super cute, c6,triple crowned and everything. I started to main yanfei for my second abyss team and she's super duper cute as well.
when i started the game at launch barbara was my main when i co op xD
i built yunjin i don't use her often but i did build her because she is geo xD
i thought the last one is Xinyan… but honestly i think she has a cool design appearance AND her effects and animations look so cool
Till now I have no idea what "main" really means. Who out of your four man party who would be your main? Is it the dps? What if you have built more than one team? I usually just refer to my DPS characters as my mains because they are more likely to be the ones who are triple crowned.
I rarely see Anyone Main Traveler so there's Him/Her . But I tried investing some resources to Thoma a few Times cause I loved his Shield . Also I LV 90, My QiQi so there's that cause it's also the 5* I got from the First Banner and I still Like the healing and freeze now with Yelan

I have a lvl 90 thoma, with a crowned E and I am thinking of crowning his Q too in some time. Tho he has a shield build as well as a vap enabler for Ayato. 🙂
I main Kazuha. He's most beloved character on my account and first limited 5*. 🙂 When I'm thinking about which character I want to be better, without a doubt going to spend endless resin for extra 5 elemental mastery, that would be him. Walruss, you always say that Raiden is most expensive unit, but for me it's Kazuha. Not because I'm unlucky in Viridescent domain, but because I want that sweet +5 elemental mastery on him every day and I know I can get it someday. :))
P.S. Before Kazuha my main was Lumine. Although I never triple crowned her, I can say I was Lumine main until AR 50. 🙂
i main Kokomi. before that, Klee. But if there's gonna be a list that we can see character usage, my most used character is Raiden Shogun
the clam set made my qiqi and barbara became my main for the abys lmao
I main Mona, Lisa, and Fischl (90, 3x crowned, farmed artifacts). Mona is the on-field dps (c5), Lisa (c3) and Fischl (c6) support her for electrocharged. Works quite well, I always bring this team to Abyss, and It manages to 9* floor 12 reliably.
I couldn't believe Yun Jin was on this list! I started playing Genshin specifically for Yun Jin. I thought Xinyan was gonna be up there.
I’m a Ningguang simp— I mean main. Beidou was going to be my main at first but I kept just going back to Ningguang. I found out I just really liked her playstyle the most out of everyone. To top it off she is my favorite character if all time so…
I thought of Gorou too, because he's mostly used as Itto's support and came out with him as well. I've never seen a DPS Gorou or a Gorou main (though now I'm inclined to search).
