  1. Sips tea This video came from a long, LONG ago curiosity that became a really popular line on my streams before — "Everyone, thank the whales", and we all just took 5 minutes to thank whales for funding this game.

  2. I have to disagree with the way the word "whale" is presented, because actually a few ppl are "dumb" enough to C6R5 their char, compared to those that spend on velkin and BP. Their reasons to spend are completely different, and for us that understand how f2p friendly the difficulty can be, well , we know that a C6R5 doesn't have any content to be used on.

Aside from that, whan an amazing video, I got curious about your conclusions in those papers

  3. As a former whale, the "return on investment" after getting one C6 character over roughly 2 years (Itto) is really subpar. There's just no incentive to really whale on a character, get their weapon, or even really roll for that matter if you're looking primarily from a meta perspective. I'm down to BP and Welkin and I'm even debating that as it doesn't feel necessary. xD

  4. This video sums up my Genshin Impact experience. Planned to be F2P until the first Ganyu banner dropped. New year's resolution, try to maintain a BP+Welkin only lifestyle to support the game starting now…? lol

  5. I say unless something drastic happens to scare the whales away Genshin should be fine. FGO is still going 7.5 years after release so Genshin should be able to sustain itself pretty easily if the team doesn't majorly mess up.

  6. I’ve spent over $10,000USD so far in this game and was actually considering spending way less since Fontaine seems mostly waifus. I’m just really tired of the gender imbalance. The only way I know how to personally vote with my wallet is to not spend on anything but husbandos. But they may just see that as the game as a whole being less profitable because they’d sooner think that than ”maybe we need to make as many husbandos and invest as much into their kits and let them be meta like waifus”. Which is sad. I only gve this game a chance because my friends played it. The waifu aspect kept me away and it took MANY MOMTHS to become desensitized to how sexualized the women are.

But I know I’m in the minority.

  7. Good point on this.
Like any other gacha games if there are no investments / players who are buying the chance of getting characters than it has the potential to drop.

The only gacha game I see who has manage to spread it's type of purchase is Azur Lane.

The in game content is awesome (as in there is an insane amount of it), as well as the shops.
You essentially paying for more storage, skins, summon chances, materials for upgrades and more.
But these are not really required.
Although in my case I spend money on increasing my storages since I kept getting new characters and gears too fast that my storage fills up immediately if I don't check on it.

  8. I honestly think what kills Genshin is the end of the archon quest. Once the game ends, mohoyo will have to incentive players to continue to play the game. I don't know what genshin will do once the story itself reaches an endpoint. I know many people that will be done with the game at that point but I can't see a clear way for how mohoyo will get players to keep playing.

  9. Game makes billions and billions.
Genshin is going to be a classic for years, like League of legends.
It wont randomly "Die" out of the blue.
Edit: One of the weakest points the game has, is little End game.

  10. Tbh, I don't play co-op and I've seen other content creators make a bunch of videos on how the entire industry is shifting towards a more solo play style as there are a LOT of people who for various reasons prefer solo play.

Many people have full time jobs and look forward to spending a few hours to just chill. Genshin provides that and is modeled, as in the resin system, to be enjoyed for brief spurts of time.

As for why players would wish to whale on a character its generally for the simple reason that it can add a new playstyle to the game. Take EM Raiden an an example in Hyperbloom team's. That being said, there comes a point where some character kits just don't seem to hit very well and/or the character might not seem very appealing. For those who have many maxed out characters already capable of clearing the content it becomes increasingly more difficult to continually invent a new style of play. I think when Fontaine gets released this might become a lot more obvious as it's not a new elemental type and many players already have powerful hydro characters. Power creeping might become a bigger issue but in all honesty if Hoyoverse just raised the difficulty level of world mobs to actually challenge players to complete the new area's rather then walking through it no challenge at all then that could make having certain character more critical for advancement. This is already done in Spiral Abyss, so perhaps it's time to use some of the same tactics in the overworld.

Now I'm a huge fan of Genshin lore and my Overworld is 100% cleared in all areas except underneath the Chasm 99% and Enkanomiya 98%. So for me it gets old quick when nothing new is out and I started playing Honkai just to see the lore over there as a captain. The only reward worth playing Genshin for, for me, is the lore. It's rather ridiculously too easy with a good range of maxed out characters so I personally feel that aside from the lore, the game still feels like it's generally lacking a critical element to keeping my attention for more then a couple hours a day, sometimes even less.

  11. A rogue-like or raid boss modes are what we need, where people with higher constellations have higher chances of getting to higher tiers of these modes, but with enough time and investment, F2P can still as well. This will encourage more whales to get more constellations and weapons and more F2P to spend.

  12. Let's not forget there are outside businesses that collaborate with Genshin Impact. Game figurines, mobile phones, car brand, Music (Just by playing their music can earn them a profit) and the exhibits (around the globe) that they do occasionally. They will still gain profit even if the gacha spenders will decrease.

My take, the only thing that can kill genshin is if they begin to make poor quality content.

  13. personally speaking it's not surprising to say that genshin is a business because in all honesty it is, I think this fact might be a bit hard to stomach because of how emotionally invested people are in the game, it's hard to say if that a good or bad thing but in my experience it's on the good-ish side of things.

as much as people in real life tried to make me quit and hate the game well I won't, not any time soon at least, genshin is honestly the last game that gave me a really good experience, yes it's gatcha and yes you will cry if you saw my washing history, but in all gatcha games the thing that makes people wanting to invest isn't initially, at least, big damage and meta, it's the emotional investment that they have for many characters and regions and the whole world if you think about it, and in genshin I've seen lots of people that say that this game helped them to get through a lot of hard times. what makes genshin special for all of this it's that it's a very causal game no pressure or anything, not a "if only I was aiming a bit higher I would done this and that", the only pressure in this game to its players is applied to themselves by themselves, no one told you to max level your characters whether we're talking about level, companionship, or talents or worse artifacts. most of the stuff are easy and pressure free making the game really likeable… not that I didn't get burnt out by the game but in all honesty I was the who burnt myself..

I think you missed a point about free-to-play players is that not only do they as humans being attract others into the game like a living advertisment, they also share a place with whales the "VIPs" because they both make them feel better for all the money they spent, and well no one wants to play a game that there is only you in it and your kind diversity in life is important…

  14. Whales and F2Ps have a symbyotic relationship. Without the F2Ps the whales have nothing to hold over their heads. They get to say "Look how much BETTER my account is compared to yours." Name it, C6 characters, weapons or artifacts. Whales have better stuff then F2Ps and they like that. No F2Ps, no whales.

Meanwhile the F2Ps need whales to show them what is possible for them to achieve. Be it through grinding or spending, MHY prefers that latter.

If one or the other disappear, both will. That is how games work, that is how gachas work. To say just the whales will kill the game is wrong and short sighted. As someone who claims to have made research papers on this topic, you are ignoring 50% of the ENTIRE picture…which is a failure on your part.

  15. I am spending a lot of money until mid of 2.0s when my spending on this game drop by 90% after later half of 2.0s. 3.0s character just isn't appealing in their kit for me i can now spent a whole version of the game without spending money waiting for character i like or i want their gameplay style. I dont play boy so i skip all boys, tighhnari and cyno i skipped, saved a ton of gems. Then i pull nilou for waifu. Then nahida for gameplay. skipping fandango and alhaitaim, i kinda want these 2 but i decided not to, will again save a ton of gems from this. Then pull for waifu dehya. Dehya probably is hp or em scaling with burning gimmick it is bad gameplay but i'll pull for her anyway. At this point mihoyo keep missing getting my money rip.

  16. For me it's "competition". I'm fairly new to the game and completely f2p (for now xD unless they sell skins and guaranteed constellation to my motivation for playing the game — which is Kaeya). I'm staying because of the lore and pretty much attached to the very first characters I got upon starting. If there comes a day that another "genshin"-ish game pops up, I would give it a try.

But for now, the lore and Kaeya's (and the rest of the starter chars) rare c6 constellation is enough for me to stay. 2 years is not that long. I know that losing me won't matter much but my bank account is ready anytime. I just don't see the need to spend it atm. At least not yet xD

  17. Have u heard the theory about zongli being a descender because of his lines in end of azdha quest on the mountain and his story 5 didn't change much after change in irumunsul and u can't name wander morax

  18. Genshin really needs to actually have more incentive on playing the game for whales to always get C6R5 for every single character. Because there will come a time where they don’t see a point in doing that anymore as just using one of their C6R5 character will just clear all content easily. And the combat system gets repetitive. Which Genshin isn’t and doesn’t want to shake up the combat system or the type of content

  19. This is why the lack of any endgame repeatable content is so baffling to me, Hoyo is not giving anything to the most invested players. Frankly, the only people that care about constellations are endgame whales and they constantly have these long content droughts with characters dropping but no content to use them in because the only content they've made are a million events that only exist for a week. Honestly, it's the same reason I quit Warframe and now that game is really losing steam, I started realizing there were new Warframes to get but nothing to use them for but grinding the same content so it killed the interest in getting the new characters, same with Genshin. I literally stopped doing quests so if I picked up Alhaitham, I'd actually have something to do other than spend my resin and do dailies which is like 10 minutes a day.

  20. I haven't watched the video yet but to answer your question, that interview where hoyo had a whole list of improvements that the player base have been asking for them to make for years and went through each of them saying they had zero plans to do any of it was a great first step to killing the game.

  21. people overestimate how many players care for end game content in a game that targets a very casual player base, the mobile one. buying constellation to make your life easier on a platform that has bad controls is a thing. The only people that see no point are those that play with a mouse and keyboard or controller, the minority.
the tectones and mtashes of the community can clown as long as they want, but hoyo has data and knows what their player base actually does in game and i'm willing to bet that most never even try the floor 9 of abyss while story, exploration and light events have a high completion rate.

it's crazy that some players, mainly the hard core ones, think that every game should cater to them first and nothing else should exist and is automatically bad. funny enough, those type of games have far worse player drops and usually end up a toxic waste for people that don't know what they want and are never satisfied.

  22. Personally, as someone who's bought one Welkin, past the first like, three months, Genshin has done nothing to sustain my interest. They don't care about turning F2P into whales: they already have enough. They only care about not pissing off the F2P enough that Genshin doesn't make headlines, which might lead to some whales questioning their decision to continue playing.
