The Lantern Rite Festival – One of My Favorite Genshin Impact tunes

There is something about this piece that fills me with hope, joy, and a nostalgia. It’s hard to put into words. Per usual, it is another masterful piece from the folks over at @HOYO-MiX and @Genshin Impact .

  1. I feel that this is the Genshin's version of "May all the beauty be blessed". It really feels like this is the beauty that the characters in Liyue have been fighting for thousands and thousands of years.

  2. Hey there, I just discovered your channel today and already watched a bunch of your videos. I admire how you are able to understand and explain why some music make us feel certain ways.
I hope you’re alright with some requests.
I’d love for you to listen to some of the Mario Galaxy music (especially the Gusty Garden theme). Also the Tarrey Town theme from Breath of the Wild, this one makes me feel right at home, and I am curious why it gives me such a warm and welcome feeling. Also the theme songs from ARK survival evolved, mostly the Aberration theme, as it somehow manages to encapsulate an alien, dangerous and derelict environment in music.
Another one is Victory and Death from the Star Wars the Clone Wars tv show. I know it’s not a video game, but it manages to make me cry every single time (perhaps due to the fact it’s the final song after 7 seasons of which the final two are increasingly emotional). I just want to recommend that you listen to it, regardless of your YouTube channel.

Of course for these requests, do what you want to do. I’m gonna go back to watching more of your stuff, and perhaps somewhere in the future I’ll see one of my recommendations pop up. If not, I’ll still be watching.

    Have an great day.

  3. Lantern Rite will always be a special place in my heart for me at the same time (For myself) it’s sad because I was looking forward to this event and promised to my dog that we will play it together but 3 days before the event she died…. Always love you Bella!! Rest in peace.

PS: also love theme song of the 2nd event of the Lantern rite!!

  4. This piece of music is beautiful. I do love it.
I love Liyue, I love the Liyue characters. I love every region in the game.
And even if I try not to have one, there will always be a piece of music that will become my favorite.
If we're talking about cutscene music, than "Hang by a thread" is perhaps my favorite.
Whatever. Perhaps you will exprience this song(lantern rite) in game. Another lantern rite event is bound to occur eventually.
But that's all I have to say. Now, I must seek some peace and quiet.

  5. Both of the lantern rite themes just makes my eyes water every time hearing them unlike any other song in genshin, they're so emotional and just beautiful and capture the festival feeling just perfectly.

  6. For some context: this is 1.3 event(I started playing in 1.2 so, my first update too). Deep in full pandemic with no one to talk and stuck inside home. So, you can imagine how much it helped and hold special place in most of our heart. Thanks for providing your amazing breakdown Marco

  7. normally i don't comment on videos, but this first lantern rite cutscene was the one of only two times genshin's made me cry, and i'll never forget my experience playing that event and getting to this ending cg for the first time.

the context of this final cutscene at the end of this event is so powerful and full of multilayered meaning when you think about it from xiao's perspective, that's really only fully accessible if you've played through the event prior to seeing this cg.

of course it's a joyous festive holiday for liyue now, but we learn from the event that the context of the holiday originates from the dark era of constant war and fear in liyue. in this final cutscene, there's a level of pride in honoring the achievements and sacrifices of the fallen — xiao is watching the city celebrate the memory of his friend skybracer through the mingxiao lantern design and animation, who most don't remember anymore, but who xiao fought alongside and watched die. this becomes even more meaningful when you remember that a big part of xiao's character is defined by the ongoing loss of close men-in-arms and family ( the other yaksha, and in their case, very tragically ) in the shared line of martial duty, and what it means to be the last yaksha remaining who still carries the legacy of those fallen individuals on in his own perseverance.

then on top of that, we learn from the event that the tradition of setting off these floating lanterns originated as a custom done so that warriors returning from battle would know which direction to go to come home. imagine being that warrior on the road home from the front lines, bloody and aching and anguished because you've killed so many and watched friends die, and then you look up and you see these hundreds of lanterns rising over the crest of the next mountain from the people who are waiting for you. these are not only a "welcome home" message, but literally a direction, a compass north — both physically and spiritually, as it becomes also a reminder to the warrior of what you are fighting so hard every day and have lost so much in order to safeguard. for xiao especially, who never had a "home" in the physical sense as he was literally created to be an engine of war with no other purpose and has had to distance himself from others for their own safety because of the powers he was created with in order to do this job — imagine how this feels for him, getting this visual reminder of appreciation for all he does and has sacrificed even though he can't walk among the very people he's protecting.

the way he kneels down in the cutscene to take this all in, the look he gets in his eye, the way he smiles — it all makes sense looking at all of the context for this moment that the event gives us. it's SUCH a deep moment that brings together themes of honor, remembrance, pride, gratitude, loneliness, and purpose.

  8. please listen to the deltarune OST!! its made by toby fox and is the predecessor to undertale, if you want some songs, "BIG SHOT" is almost as popular as megalovania in the deltarune community and "A CYBER'S WORLD?" both are from chapter 2 and are incredible. but the whole chapter 1 and chapter 2 ost is amazing if you wanna do another livestream. you also might recognize some undertale leitmotifs in the deltarune soundtrack 🙂

  11. Seeing that 1st Lantern Rite cutscene was the first time Genshin brought a tear in my eye (the good kind of tear. The tears I shed afterwards were of sadness). This music always holds a special place in my heart.

  12. When the first lantern rites event took place I cried while looking through Liyue Harbour, all the decorations felt so warm and the city seemed so filled with excitement. Prior to this my mom had passed away and chinese new year wasn't the same without her, I was in a bad place physically and mentally but hearing this song with the cutscenes I cried again because it was so gentle, warm and filled with hope for the future. It was this point that I really love the game and no matter how long I take a break from the game I'll never miss lantern rite and will always return to liyue harbour.

  13. this absolutely stunning piece of music is so much more special to us i think because genshin only plays this song in game once a year, coupled by the fact that its an event in game that celebrates a real life holiday. its almost a theme for lunar new year itself and its just so special to hear this brilliant piece just in those special moments, especially fo those of us who actually celebrate this holiday. you can just remember the taste of rice cakes, the sight of fireworks and dragon dances, the smell of grilled fish skewers and the sound of kids playing carnival games, its so grand and fantastical yet so human. arguably my favorite song in the entire genshin soundtrack

  14. Surprisingly, this melody evokes very warm and pleasant associations with Disney cartoons. For some reason, the winter scene from "Beauty and the Beast" immediately pops up in my memory. And the musical theme of the second Lantern Rite became a New Year's melody for me 😌. Celebrating in patch 2.4 was the best experience ever!

  15. Love your channel and I watched almost all your Genshin related videos 😂 one recommendation! I wonder if you want to watch Attack on Titan, an anime that in my opinion has one of the most outstanding music in the show!! and the show itself is a masterpiece

  16. Sometimes I feel bad for players that have not started at the begging of the game and missed on one of probably the best events GI ever had. Every time this play, every time I get back to that cut scene, I can't stop tearing out remembering the anticipation and build up to that moment, the peace and seventy that the lantern rite brings along the solemnity for tradition and spirituality. That was a masterpiece and hope players would be able to experience again in the game

  17. i started genshin at launch, but my friends ended up abandoning it so i'd kinda tossed it to the side. xiao at 1.3 is what made me come back, and i started again right at lantern rite. i got xiao, and he helped me out through all of the liyue quest line up until that point, and i straight up cried with this cutscene. absolutely one of my favorites! been playing since. i still have some of the mingxiao lanterns from the event that i will never give up <3 and xiao is still one of my top carries, and almost never leaves my party 🙂
