The Government is Cracking Down On Genshin Impact…

Hello guys and gals, it’s me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at an interesting complaint filed by the FTC, with a pretty eye-opening fine as well. Genshin Impact is one of the most popular gacha games out there and it’s drawn enough attention for the government to look at how younger audiences and loot boxes intersect. We’ve known it hasn’t been good for a long time but finally the people who can make gaming free of this nonsense are finally taking notice. Thanks for watching!

  1. I am confident that the reason they went after Genshin is the same reason they banned tiktok. Mihoyo is a chinese competitor to american companies and they can't have people giving money to china instead of EA and Valve

  2. If it involves an Asian country the govt has an issue with it but if its ea, ubisoft, 2k, activision or any of these garbo shidcoin game devs the govt has no issue.

  3. This is not a game issue. This is a parents issue. The ToS state a parent or legal guardian has to consent to their child making an account to play this game. To add more to that it blows my mind that these parents are either allowing their card details on their kids account or how they are failing at stopping their kids from getting hold of their details. Once again lazy and or incompetent parents cause an otherwise avoidable issue.

  4. if your kid has free access to your credit card that's on you, as several others have said in this comment section it's also in their TOS that you have to have parents consent to make an account (of course kids are going to lie) it's also on you as the parent to be monitoring this kind of stuff.

  5. Gacha games are a cancer and never should have come into existence. Genshin is a fantastic game at its core but it has a truck sized tumor on its face with all the gambling bullshit and time wasting mechanics crammed in.

  6. I hate to admit, I’m an avid Genshin Player myself even as a full grown ass adult. And the gacha part is addictive af and I have paid real money but know when to stop thank god. I feel as if this is a parents issue more than a game issue as well as a self awareness thing too. Parents should know to hide and not give their card details willingly to kids as well as adults knowing when it’s time to stop.

  7. Putting the fine into perspective:
    20 million fine / 100 billion revenue = 0.02%.
In comparison, if you were to fine someone based on their income of 30k, the fine would be $600.
Would be overkill for speeding, but getting a $600 fine for grooming millions of children into gambling starts to show how out of whack these fines are. That'd be prison for life for you or me.

  8. one thing you haven't brought up though (or at least I don't remember seeing it could have been looking away at the time) you didn't bring up that it's T for teens not E for everyone. I know that doesn't mean anything because when we were kids we were playing GTA and the government went after rockstar because kids were playing the game even though it's rated M for mature. the game is meant for 13+ so they are following the rules, and the blame will go strictly to the parents.
I mean you would need to link your credit card/debit card to your kids profile, phone, PC and so on for them to be able to buy these things and children don't understand the concept of money so they should know that their kids will more than likely waste their money on stupid shit if you give them full access to their money. I do believe there should be regulations to it but it should also be regulated for all games not just Genshin Impact.
you brought up COD which has loot boxes but you said it's a game meant for adults. but I will say again that kids also play the game because parents don't care about the ratings even if it's rated R there's parents out there who will buy the game for their kids.

  9. It's really sad that they are targeting just genshin and being nitpicky with their claims except for the sssniper wolf clip, everything is clear in genshin and if kids have access to their parent's cards then that's the parent's fault who should be on top of their kids. Also considering that it's free, so much content and updates very consistently paying small amounts here and there is okay, I don't spend on genesis crystals even tho it's tempting I still don't and just pay for welkin moon which you still don't need to be insanely strong. This just feels the same with the tiktok situation. I feel like there are things they could do better instead of checking on genshin.

  10. I think it's hilarious Muda really doubles down on the fact that Genshin is a kids game based on some of the art and 1 event game. Meanwhile in the story it's constantly about death, murder, suicide, abuse etc😅

  11. I'm confused by the "made for children" thing. Everyone's evidence seems to just be "look at the art style!" I'm sorry, are bright colors, and unrealistic graphics now children only?

  12. Why are people acting like Genshin is some small indie game? Mihoyo make millions in their sleep .

It is the most PROFITABLE GACHA in the world consistently it makes sense to target that first. Though I agree some parents need to stop giving kids unsupervised access to their credit cards.

I think the biggest issue that factored into them pulling the trigger is that this is Genshin’s target audience children- > young adults unlike the other more modern shooters.

  13. Loot boxes and gacha are basicly the same thing, so I am glad they are finally starting to add some regulations to these things. It's still little steps, but these go far in their reach and effect.

  14. I never understood people who think that age-appropriateness is dictated by artistic medium and not something that is actually age related, like reading level.

Like seriously, do you think a child is not going to be able to understand Disney's latest live-action film just because they used actors instead of animators?

Man that is so fucking true. I forced myself to delete Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact because I spent so much money on the games. All I'll say is I could've bought a car. Any money that wasn't going to rent or food was pretty much all going to those two games. The first time I missed rent I realized the issue I had and just chose the nuclear option of deleting the games so that I wouldn't be urged to put more money into it.

  16. Why isn't this for every game? I know plenty of games with loot boxes still, with zero restrictions. World of Tanks, looking at you. Runescape? Why does Treasure Hunter still exist.
