Genshin Impact unit reviewers are morons. Let's be honest, most Genshin content creators are morons. Kazuha is by far the best example of this. Only 2 content creators iirc that I followed thought Kazuha was worth. Kazuha is single-handedly the best unit in the game.
one note: every single 5-star unit basically has had a 4-star comparison. i did some writing on it awhile ago bc i thought it was interesting
eula with razor, kazuha with sucrose, raiden and yae miko with fischl, itto with noelle, yoimiya with amber, kokomi with barbara. so many more
and then there’s also inter-5-star comparisons. ayato to childe (ganyu/kokomi/mona/xingqiu), yoimiya to hu tao, kokomi to mona, kazuha to venti, the list kinda goes on.
and 4 to 5-stars. sayu to jean. gorou and sara to bennett. etcetcetc.
in some ways i think it’s basically inevitable, because c6 4-stars can often reach c0 4-star potential but they’re a long-term investment. comparing someone to a similar role being cheaper is sort of how measuring value works here.
people use characters we already have as a frame of reference. the only times they aren’t really compared is when something is completely new, like xiao was to anemo.
and that can be important. for example, knowing if you have ganyu you might not need ayaka bc they fill basically the same role (tho ofc ganyu can be a cryo applicator support). one can go, “i want a hydro dps but i’m not a fan of childe’s playstyle, so i’ll go for ayato.” knowing where they fit in teams also makes it easier to guess if your account would benefit from them.
but i also agree that people speculate and compare way too much, especially when the units aren’t even released yet.
and also that whether they’re “useful” or not really isn’t that important as long as you like them. the negativity you mentioned of people questioning pulling for yelan because of doomposting is really unfortunate :/
imo, i like leaks just knowing which banners are coming, but when it comes to knowing new characters’ kits, i personally try to avoid info on them, because i know they’re unfinished and they can easily be misrepresented in leaks. hasn’t totally worked to quell disappointment (such as my hope for yae miko dps, because i love her), but it helps some to at least keep in mind and recognize that my expectations have little bearing on the eventual reality
I feel like a lot of people flip flop in general, like with Raiden for example First it was, “Hate her design”, then “dude look at her numbers she’s cracked”, then “Bro she’s okay but not a must”, and then she has the highest banner sales of any 5 star

Genshin is a single player game. Every account and player is different. I like subdps that can attacking and moving alongside with onfield dps like XQ, XL, fischlC6, Ei-E, etc.
This kind of playstyle is ez to use for me that I can afford tons of mistake in positioning and rotation but still clear abyss 36 star in 1-2 try max.
Yelan will fit perfectly in my style and will work very very well even in ayaka freeze team under my account n playstyle.
I will never pull for kokomi n didnt build mona.
Imagine how much hate Varka is going to get, because the expectations will be titanic and unachievable. And also because they'll probably make him a young teen with noodle arms.

Yellen is like zingqiu burst skill to apply hydro wet status? Mean easy to skip and go kazuha banner for cc unit?

Well, Ganyu IS Amber. CA focused? Check. Taunt that explodes? Check. AoE DoT burst? Check. They have the same kit, except Ganyu's is actually well designed (save for he rinsane CA multipliers maybe).
I'm more interested on your Raiden Shogun build. I was caught off guard when I saw her off field E slashes deal 10k
This cycle is so hilarious, and tiresome. All these units that have come out, and all of them have to be tested in game, in comps, in abyss, with signature, 5-star and 4-star weapons, and various artifact sets; yet a portion of the community is still confident enough to try to make a concrete decision on a unit. I get it, it’s dry out here. People like to theory craft and that’s fun. But the game must be played, and I’d toss every opinion on a character in the trash until they can be tested. We have a lot of time before the community gets her. Save up your primos fam, farm for a basic artifact set while you have the chance. Time is on our side.
My criticism would be that there are a lot of 5 stars that are just slightly better counter parts of certain 4 stars. I think Kazuha and Sucrose are a good comparison given that they are equally valuable in certain situations. The problem is people interpret that as "dont pull cause they're trash" when it doesn't mean that. I think its a little lazy and playing it 'safe' for hoyoverse to not develop new characters that can re-define the meta NOT by pure damage but by having unique abilities that allow new teams this excludes anemo units and certain broken units (benny, xq and xl) because they are always helpful. It is definitely true that the newer 5 stars don't offer much in terms of value regarding unique and fun playstyles.
since when is saying "more expensive xingqiu" doomposting? he's considered the best hydro unit in the game and a must have for any account, no one is denying how good yelan is guaranteed to be
I've never seen such a reaction towards new chacters in honkai. I think the reason might be, that in honkai the communitiy is heavily involved into the beta testing. Also, "Ganyu is just Cryo-Amber" was obviously a meme xD

to be fair, I'm not a big fan of bow characters, and I happen to already have tartaglia, those are the only reasons I'm not really interested in yelan

Yo guys. My genshin glitched so i missed raiden and ayato while on 70 pity. I started during xiaos last banner and hes probably going to stay my fave for the rest of genshin lol id kill for his c6. Do you guys think i should go for yelan or wait for th3 xiao rerun?
People will doompost whenever given the chance lmao, it’s insane. People even be doomposting about kuki and saying that she will be the worst at everything and she won’t be better than any other character in the game. As someone who has done the math over and over, I can guarantee she is going to be a unique character.
Isn't her hydro application equal to Xingqiu outside of his C6? Ah yes, because people just actively refuse to use him pre C6 since he's such a terrible unit. The community is just weird. I'll take a character that's > Xingqui before C6 with a a damage modifier that will be, on average, equal to Kazuha.
I feel like Genshin has so much FOMO that we don't consider what comes with it: fear of crapping out. So people don't want to miss the best characters so much that they make snap judgements and say a character isn't going to be good even though they have no idea
Quite a bit of people from genshin community have “strong opinion” about which characters to play. You could see it not only from the reluctance of welcoming new unit, but also when you see a more casual people streaming genshin, the amount of backseaters is so high, sometimes to the point that they make those streamers reluctant to keep playing the game cause whenever they want to play how they want to play, these people really eager to let the streamers know how they really feel about how the game should be played.
I still stand with doom posting or down playing characters and be totally wrong with it when they come out. Yae and yoimiya was overhyped and look at how they turn out, its better to be wrong about units being bad turning good than good units be bad at release date
I am looking at only one thing that's gonna change the game for yelan that xinqiu cannot do, that is the cooldown and energy cost. yelan skill cooldown is very short so u don't have to wait for 21s and her burst cost is also low so yelan will be more fluid in any rotation
