Reviewing your takes on Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact makes me so angry that I decided one video wasn’t enough. If I keep getting sponsorship emails after this one, then I really won’t know what to think.

  1. Serious question, do you think you're video could be more objective? There's been a debate among a lot of movie review channels on exactly how objective/subjective one can be. While it is safe to say there isn't a single "best" way to review anything, what stops you from choosing a standard and objectifying that standard? For example, non-manipulative gameplay. If we're going with the definition of good to mean "a high standard", what stops you from saying that Genshin is one of the most manipulative triple-A games on the market? They could have given us a fixed price and made all characters unlockable through story progression. They could have made characters a fixed price so you know exactly what you get for your money. Instead, it's all tied to a slot machine. The best example of manipulation I can think of is when they say, "if you didn't get the super-cool character on your first try, don't worry! The next character is GUARANTEED to be the cool one!". This is a classic sunken-cost fallacy. The idea that you've already "invested" so much to get the cool thing that you can't stop now. You don't want all of those previous rolls to be for nothing right?

  2. i can not stand the "if you dont like it then dont play it" argument.
its important to demand better from your games, and you cant give constructive criticism if you drop the game after an hour.

  3. Personally I did like the game at one point in my life, but now it is a hollow shell of what it once was. I still love the game to an extent yet I hate it. I like watching others' opinions/reviews to see another side of an argument. I respect your opinion and wish you the best. gl gamer in all your future endeavors.

  4. After playing since patch 1.1, I'm taking an indefinite break, Mihoyo has some stuff they need to fix. Loyal players don't really have a reason to stay. All the rewards are frontloaded in the first 100 or so hours of play. Our anniversary and birthday rewards are next to nothing.

  5. I really enjoyed Genshin and I can understand why you don't like it and agree to disagree. You make a lot of valid points, I can concede that Genshin has a lot a flaws that need addressing, I just wish you weren't so rude at getting them across. I watched the video twice at different times and really feel like the music is the only thing I can clearly remember you complementing without adding any rude jabs in to negate the compliment. You're very heavy handed with your disdain for the game and very light on the things you enjoyed.

  6. Ok, so I'm someone who has played a fair amount of Genshin and I've enjoyed it. And I saw your original video when it came out, and quite frankly I agreed with you. You're pretty much right on everything you said and I went back before writing this comment to make sure I still held that opinion.
So I kinda just want to say why I still play the game. And it's not because it's good
1 is just that I enjoy the characters. I relate to Shenhe, I enjoy Beidou's energy and personality, and I'm madly in love with Itto, Miko, and Zhongli. Which is sort of the point I know but still. They did a good job on that front.
The second reason is a bit more tied to just… me like this isn't something everyone will relate to. So, I'm trans, uh trans fem specifically. And I get really really dysphoric almost all the time. So playing as characters that look… well closer to the way I want to look, it just kinda helps you know? And it's mostly the reason I still play the game. I don't min max, I don't try to optimize performance. I just want to run around and be myself. Which is why I really really hate the banner system because out of every character Shen he gives me the most gender envy and I want to play as her so bad but I only started playing once her banner was nearly done so I missed her completely.
Anyways, that's my reason to keep playing. I agree that the game is predatory and not well put together, in fact there's a youtuber called varsII who makes videos about Genshin usually dissecting it's problems and I'd suggest checking him out.

  7. Yakko over here like "you know the saying 'dont poke the bear's y'all ain't bears." Lol kinda sad that so many people don't know the difference between an opinion and facts. 😂

  8. Ngl if they just made a really good end game gameplay l, fix resin system and many other things the game could do a lot better and have better improvement of a game. But from recent news the next patch is being delayed for 3 weeks and players have no shit to do, if they at least brought 1 or 2 more good end game modes before hand we wouldn't have to worry too much, hoyoverse is literally killing rheir game themselves huh.

As for me im completely f2p and have completed almost 95% of content by f2p. I don't care much for the gacha, if I really like a character I just save them and if I don't get them they will always be a better character on the future. Honestly the only enjoyment I get as an endgame player is the lore, exploration, each character lore and gambling for artifacts

  9. You make the same tired points that all gaming content creators made about Genshin, but you still fail to consider why people would play; the only thing you mention is the "addiction", as if any game out there isn't designed to make you want to play more.

But considering how Genshin remains one of the most popular F2P PVE games on the market, you have to ask yourselves why us unenlightened, lowly peons still play this game, despite someone of your intelligence and importance realizing it was obviously horrible, after deigning to give it a try.

  10. After playing Genshin for a long while now, i honestly can't find anything about Genshin that make it special compare to other games.

It's battle system is boring and mostly just about making big number go big with a no brain and no skill dodge system, even supposedly its biggest selling point, the characters aren't properly flesh out with their stories just end abruptly or never continues, the quest and storyline are so linear and boring, plus doing any side quest affect and change nothing at all, it felt meaningless.

The only good things about Genshin is its music and that isn't that special at all since a lot of games have good music. The other good thing i guess is maybe the ambient and like the scenery and such but even minecraft with shader might done better and that's it.

Honestly Genshin is fun at first but after a while it just start repeating with no new addition to its combat or anything else even in the new regions, and it's such a shame too since at first i really had a high hopes for this game, i even once thought this game is ground breaking and always leave some sort of long suggestion everytime there's a questionnare. Well now i just gave up and only play with friends and even then my friends are also starting to get bored also.

So yeah, i don't think Genshin will ever change

  11. imo: genshin is the first game i’ve played with fighting mechanics other than stardew valley, and for a beginner it’s very nice. less stressful for people who don’t have to think about all the different spells or power ups they can do. i’m not hating on yakko in the slightest. i completely agree with all of his points. but if you haven’t played many fighting games but have liked quests and collecting things i would say genshin is a good start. but i haven’t got to late game yet so i can’t say much.

  12. i love genshin, have played it nearly since release, & have recently started a new "non-wish" account just to experience it from a new perspective, but i'd never recommend it to anyone. not ever. i'll talk about it, sure, but if someone says, "should i play it?" i will always respond with, "no." i hate the amount of hours i have put into this game, but for me AND FOR A VERY SELECT FEW OTHERS, this game is like how a toddler sucks their thumb in that it brings a sense of comfort and constancy within their ever-shifting lives. in the same way that i used to read the same books over and over because starting new books and having to actually think about the plot was "too hard," genshin offers a reprieve in between times when i don't want to try new games for the exact same reason.

i love to theorize about the lore of genshin. i love to think about future updates and additions to the world and story. i even like to waste away my hours watching slow-talking individuals discuss bits of the story that i might not have picked up, or didn't bother to read. but i would never call genshin a great game, and i would never push others to like it or even play it in the first place. a lot of people within the hardcore genshin fandom (which is mostly those that have only recently picked up the game, those that are young, or those that are just so addicted that they refuse to acknowledge genshin as anything other than perfect) will bother you with comments like these yakko, but know that for every hardcore genshin fan there are ten more people that wholeheartedly agree, but are just too passive about the topic that they don't feel the need to comment under the video.
