Physical Needs a Comeback! | Genshin Impact

Physical damage has been a part of Genshin Impact ever since its initial release, however over the years the archetype and their characters have fallen out of favor and are now considered to be nothing more then a meme. In this video we take a dive into the history of physical and I explain why I believe the archetype deserve a comeback!

  1. I think Physical should stay as a choice if you don’t want to play with reactions, or more interestingly, be anti-reaction. For example:

    – A physical off fielder who deals more damage if your team has not recently triggered a high damage reaction (e.g. superconduct, shatter, crystallize are OK, your damage is lowered if you triggered a melt or overloaded)
    – Physical shield that deals retribution damage based on how many different elements or reactions the shield was hit by during its duration

The other thing needed is an artifact or weapon that turns an elemental infusion into a damage buff or extra damage, so that the controversial C6 Bennett will make your on fielder deal something like 97% physical + 5% pyro damage. (Overlapping weapon infusions is another area of the game I think can be made much more interesting, but that’s another topic.)

The anti-element physical characters can equip something similar to Abyss lectors, high rank eremites, and Fatui.

  2. 4:09 I think that's a myth. Teams never revolved around personal damage beyond early resin limitations. The most popular teams included Morgana, International, National, Hu Tao-Xingqiu, and variants of Double Geo. They exploited Hydro reactions and fit meaningful Sub DPS into the team.
Physical never had access to meaningful Sub DPS before Furina. It could have gone a long way to make a Sub DPS who actually benefits from Eula's Res Shread.
But nowadays Eula has more problems than that. Modern DPS have flexible Rotations, lower burst reliance and easily accessible spikes of damage. Al Haitham, Neuvilette, Navia, set the bar with an antithesis to Eula's design. You'd need a new carry to have any chance reviving Physical.

  3. physical got fucked over by hoyo because almost every new monster have unnecessary high physical resistant.
i love physical xinyan to death but its hard to compete with elemental reaction like pyro xinyan and burgeon xinyan.
the lack of support also take part of it. i honestly dont know what can hoyo do to save physical.
new support or new 5 star pyshical dps might work, but eula already a peak pyshical dps. there is no way they can make a fresh physical dps after that.

  4. Physical to me is an elemental reaction… It's a sub category of cryo reaction… But i do think it's easy to buff physical to a viable level by just buffing some of the numbers of shatter and superconduct

  5. Ngl, i find myself still using big momma rosaria even 2 years after she 1st dropped
I mainly have her using crit and cryo stuff but her speed and high damage are nutty.

I do think physical damage is a bit more simplistic than characters who rely on elemental damage. And thats not exactly a bad thing. It gives those wanting a more basic play style a chance instead of worrying about mastery, elemental damage, or doing math out the wazoo to figure out how hard theyll hit.
