the way you said "ascenders" made me immediately remember "descenders," and i very quickly thought that maybe the ascenders are the counter part of the descenders? because the descenders have come into teyvat, while when we saw venessa ascend, we saw some prison as celestia? if im remembering this correctly. so maybe the ascenders are being held till the descenders leave or something? sorry if anything is wrong, im not very good with lore and i havent completed the sumeru archon quest.
