Recently, the developers of Genshin Impact officially hinted at the second part of the game.

so today, I will talk about what we know regarding Genshin 2. I’ll talk about what type of game it will be, potential main characters, and speculate on where and when the story might unfold.

Let’s start with the most crucial information, which is the announcement of the second part.

Xiao Luohao, the head of the writing team, had a discussion with students at a university.

Allow me to quickly summarize his response: the game’s story is only one-third revealed to players by the conclusion of the Fontaine story; there is much more content ahead. Despite the project’s story not being completed for a while yet, we have all the resources to continue it in the form of the second part of the game.

I think that’s quite a hint from the developers, isn’t it?

Now, let’s talk about when the second part of the game might be released. Firstly, we know that we still have at least three more regions: Natlan, Snezhnaya, and the ruined Khaenri’ah. All of these will likely appear in the first part of the game. Also, we know that Natlan is scheduled to be released by the end of this summer, and typically, regions are released once a year. Theoretically, the story in Genshin should end in the year 2027.

So, the second part of the game should be released around the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028, which is approximately 3-4 years from now, and the journey ahead is far from over.

Who is going to be the main character?

I don’t think there’s much to discuss here since in games from miHoYo, we play as faceless characters. What I mean is that often the MC of their games are not familiar with the game universe, and by the time the story begins, they know as little about the world as we do.

So let me speculate on who the main character might be and where the main story will take place.

The first option: the new storyline might be a prequel, meaning they will tell us what happened in Teyvat before the arrival of the Traveler and perhaps even before Celestia. We will play as characters that can be learned about from legends in the current lore.

The second option is neither a sequel nor a prequel. The plot’s setting could be entirely different – on another continent or even on a planet colonized by other people, similar to Teyvat. Why not explore colonizing other planets with completely different characters, legends, laws of physics, and magic, rather than sticking solely to elements? It might be similar to honkai impact 3rd.

Well, or just make a regular sequel. But playing as the Travelers this time might not be very exciting.

And of course, let’s say that when they announce Genshin 2, they will offer a variety of rewards for the first time and free pulls. So let’s eagerly await the release of Genshin 2 and the reward in the form of 3 pulls!

  5. I hope it’s still somewhat similar to genshin. I don’t want genshin 2 to be a whole new world with completely different characters and different rules otherwise that’s simply a different game, not actual genshin

I think you misinterpreted what the storyguy said, the 2nd part may well have been refering to the 2nd part of genshin, as in we've had monstadt.liyue.inazuma,sumeru,fontaine , they just mean they're half way, we have natlan, scnezhnaya, khaenriah, abyss and other possible zones to go. Not saying they wont make a game beyond that though linked to the first.

    Greek mythology like setting
    Norse mythology like setting
    Polynesian mythology like setting
    Indonesian mythology like setting
    Libertatia like setting (a pirate setting theme)
    ancient Native American like setting
    Ancient Rome like setting
    Lastly a khaneri’ah like setting but mixed with Bionis from xenoblade chronicles

  20. would genshin part 2 really mean a new app though? or likely just the same game but expanded further if it is a sequel. if its a separate app then the old genshin can easily be deleted and boom free storage. if same app then hehe bye bye storage.

    Also, if it is a sequel, the traveller doesn't have to change (since almost no one plays Traveller anyway🥲). a sequel could be the traveller and their sibling moving on to the next world with completely new mechanics and stuff so they would still be learning along with us. another option is they return to teyvat but like waaaaayyyyyy in the future (like that one vid from the hoyofair that's set in a futuristic teyvat). that would be cool.

    but personally I would enjoy a prequel. then we'd get to meet the characters that are currently dead (me wanting to play as the other yakshas lol🥲)

  31. Honestly, I hope that it’s the traveler and we can get some actually development. Or even maybe we can customize our own character that can get isekaid into the Genshin verse. In fact in a post on HoYoLAB hoyoverse either asked if we wanted to be able to make new outfits or customize a character which could be hinting at that coming in the future.

  34. i hope that genshin 2 isn't an entirely different game, just a continuation of the story inside of the current game. maybe we'll go to another continent or head to our home world after finding out sibling, either way im going to stick all the way to the end. even if the rewards are… very bad, to say the least

  38. 1st half game = 1/3 story
    2nd half game – = 2/3 story
    I don't think it's a separate game, just that more of the story will be revealed in 2nd half (so next 3-4 years)

    He just sounded like he was trying to encourage everyone that they are picking up pace and there's even more content planned – in other words, the game isn't dying, it's ramping up (which makes sense since ppl keep talking about Genshin dying off and in the face of upcoming competition)
