You ask good questions. But some answers would be massive spoilers so be careful sadly many players are dumb and can't do enything but to spoil things.
Wanderer did not burn the kid
From all the characters, I think Wanderer is the most complicated to explain. His story is also pretty easy to spoil imo. But yes, he went through a lot and NO, that was not a smile. While he isn't morally good, in this teaser, we actually finally see him being actually more emotional than normally – he is in pain, crying and wishing to die.
His backstory is a lot and it's connected deeply especially to Inazuma's lore. There are still people who hate him as a character, or people who love him. I'm in the second group 😀
In my opinion, Wanderer has the best written backstory we got so far for a playable character

actually all the characters have a fanbase the thing is that people don't like it when they say the characters names wrong
but I personally like Yanfei more than Yae she has a very cute personality and is always trying to do things within the law but also manages to bend the law in her favor
"the human realm" is because Yae is a kitsune so she is a yokai and most yokai live on another plane

wanderer is a puppet that was created by Ei. Ei created wanderer but he showed emotions so she created the raiden shogun after him.
you can view it as a very broken family with mommy Ei, big brother wanderer and little sister raiden shogun
wanderer didnt kill the kid, he died from an illness. wanderer burnt down the house, expecting a heart to come out of it (just like the story of the doll). nothing was created from the fire, and so he tried to burn himself as well.
So yeah uhh Wanderer did not kill the kid but he did burn the house down afterwards. His "smiling" there was him at his last straw then finally shedding tears. It will take a while for you to reach his part of the story but it's beautifully done. Also, not everyone in genshin is "organic" so there are quite a few non-humans apart from the gods and half-animals.

About Wanderer: he's a puppet, not a human and is related to Raiden shogun.
I hated Wanderer before especially during the Inazuma Archon Quest…and it became more greater when the Sumeru Archon Quest started.
But at the end where we know what happened to him, to Nahida, & to Irminsul…I finally appreciated his story & the actions he made.
The Bird talking is an adepti, Adeptis protects Liyue from evil. theres many adeptus but the prime Adepti is Rex Lapiz aka Zhongli.
Nahida and Wanderers teaser is so sad but very well made. Nahidas teaser was released in her actual birthday.
