  1. dude a person with 2 working eyes can tell that 2 of the 4 characters shown are tan! "5* Xinyan", as people are calling her, and Cyno are both tan! you can tell that Cyno is sitting in front of a fire or something and can tell by the top vs. shaded part of his arm that his skin color is much darker in the shade than it is in the light, and of course you'd expect it to be darker in the shade, but it's way darker than eve the shade would naturally be able to make it. plus if you watch his trailer or read the manga it even shows he's tan!

  2. So a non person of color doesn't see the issue with colorism?color me shocked. Leave this to folks who aren't privileged and stay in your lane. Frankly I'm tired of white people dedicating their lives to my culture and talking over fellow poc. I could say that YOU are guilty of doing the same thing. Your channel is all about anime/games and yet you dont have a single brown skin character.

  3. Umm…. I do agree you on this asian culture thing on anime and manga. It always like this. There so many manga and anime that don't have dark skin character 99% of the times.

  4. Also I'm something called HHAFU, and the fact that there's a word for it because Asia is so keen on discriminating against those who aren't purely their own, especially if they're not half white, should telly up that this shit is real. My mom and I moved to the US with my black father when I was 8 because of the racism. Theres a reason theres few brown skin characters and it isn't because they aren't around. Stop making excuses for racism/colorism. Stop fetishizing my culture. Plain and simple

  5. I certainly understand that people want more representation and it would be a good thing. Personally I would also love to see cool PoC male characters.
On the other hand, I prefer having all white female characters since I am more attracted to white skin. This preference/beauty standard is very prevalent in Asia as well and should be a large contributor to the lack of diversity in skin tone.
And no, having preferences for physical appearances is not racist, it is pretty much the only topic where racial differences are actually relevant.
Still, personal feelings aside, to only cater to one beauty standard is kinda problematic.

  6. The "diversity" of a game is not a problem to anyone, except the First World people like entitled americans who love to impose their race ideology and feel the need for "representation" in every media, onto the rest of the world. Let people make the games they want to make.

  7. Are you guys stuрid or just trolling? All your arguments are flawed. "They make games for chinese" no they dont make this game for chinese because they release this game globally and at least 50% of their playerbase is not asian. If they released it exclusively on a chinese language on a chinese server and you could play it only with VPN it would be a fair argument.
"Who cares?" Obviously people who want to play dark skinned characters, your captain obvious. "Why they don't talk about other asian games???" They talk about it every time an asian game gets hyped here. Same with gendered classes. Also an obvious thing is that Genshin is not just another gacha its THE MOST POPULAR gacha in the world. Guess why most people ignore less popular niche games but are fighting over genshin in twitter.
"Most of their playerbase is white or asian anyway, also they are asian themselves" Imagine european devs never released dark skinned characters because well its europe there are a lot less black people than in USA, i personally never seen one irl until like 2014 or something. "Dark skinned characters make less money" Welcome to the capitalism where your opinion doesn't matter unless you are a majority or are extremely rich. Such a great world we should 100% support a money argument to help earn even more money for this small indie dev studio

  8. In the case of Azur Lane there is a simple reason, the girls are based on ships of mostly caucasian nations (Germany, Britain, Italy, France, Russia, ….. ) there are some "tanned" girls, namely South Dakota, Massachusetts, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, … (mostly USA ships).

  9. They're just going to say that they hate it, but are still going to play it, this fandom has issues, I personally don't care if it's black, white, purple or green as long as they're good, I'm ok with that.

  10. I bet these people only mostly played GTA in their whole life. The color diversity and toxicity they're looking for is available inside the game and they only hopped on to Genshin because it's an Open World game.

  11. The problem lies in chinese/japanese and korean beauty standards those company want to make money so they produce characters that will sell and as their main market is china they make attractive characters designed to please their main customers. It is a cultural issue and a deeply anchored one

  12. I personally agree with the tweet about culture vs. skin color. Generally speaking, skin color derives from regional origin. You wouldn't expect to find all white people in desert regions or areas near the Earth's equator. Ofc, the problem stems from comparing fictional places to Earth. We live in a world where culture has mingled and intertwined heavily in Western Cultures thanks to globalization. People need to keep in mind outside of Western countries, skin tones tend to be still rather homogenous in Eastern cultures.

That being said white skin tones tend to be from regions that have cooler temperatures or from regions with less sunlight. But then again, we have people getting upset about diversity in fiction. If that fiction was based on modern Earth with a lack of diversity THEN there would be an argument. However, fiction in general has to have some logic when it comes to the artistic creation process. Maybe the problem isn't the fiction, but the idea that there has to be diversity without logical reason. This type of idea just ignores reality that skin tone colors derive from regional culture origin and not societal culture.

  13. These political correct wannabe “white” knights can do one simple thing … just go play something else or go F’ themselves … either way stop bitching and go make a game yourselves where every character looks like you then. I say this as someone myself who comes from a mixed background who has a nice brown/tan complexion thanks to my Spanish heritage but understands our American views are not the world’s views nor do they always have to be. 🤬😡😑

  14. Normally don't care too much but in genshin impact it bothers me because the developers themselves boast on taking inspiration from the real world and various cultures. So to take from PoC culture but make em predominantly white just comes off as done with intent. Which is the problem for me.

  15. Personally, i don't find skin colors to be an issue in fiction, but maybe it's because I'm used to my nationality having little to no representation. And even then, representation for us is just a nice bonus instead of a requirement.

  16. It’s a valid complaint. China is known for their prejudice against darker people but I feel like that’s common knowledge and no one should be surprised. Let’s take Ghost of Tsushima for example, imagine sucker punch took their peoples culture, the geography of the land and history then just put a bunch of white or black people in the game. Then sold that game to the Japanese. Y’all wouldn’t think that’s a problem ? I think the overreactions are dumb but the points are valid.

  17. i think its hilarious how in that reply tweet "all white" theres legit two tan characters like just delusional at this point. also everytime i comment on a vid like this i must remind everyone these characters are not white (european caucasian) they are pale oriental (asian) ethnicity, drill it into your heads. even the majority of dark characters are just that, tanned asians like xinyan. shes not of african decent and ppl are afraid of her for being darker, theyre afraid of a crazy chick singing (foreign untraditional) heavy metal with an axe and explosions.

theres also that conspiracy ppl bring up how the only two dark chars currently in game are treated bad. for one keaya isnt treated bad, hes suspicious cuz of the way he works but is respected amongst everyone. two, cyno is coming eventually and hes supposed to be a highly respected and well liked general and scholar. dehya i know nothing about except shes the most BA lookin char by far.

  18. HYV doesn't care either way, because more than half the people who are complaining are still going to play the game anyway. Yeah, I would like to see them add some more tan/dark-skinned characters if they're using each region to represent the real world, and sure, plenty of Middle Eastern people are still pretty white, and that doesn't totally excuse them, but neither of these arguments are going to matter in the end. By the time we get to 3.2, most people will have completely forgotten about this issue anyway.

  19. Asian countries don't like dark skin tones because they're perceived as poor. People who do hard labor are usually out in the sun, and a perceived as lesser citizens in Asian societies. It's more of a classist thing more than a race thing.

  20. If you watch the Parade of Nations during the Olympics you can see how racially diverse a nation is. China is not a racially diverse nation so no one should expect them to make a racially diverse game.

  21. I think the “if you are against it in Genshin why aren’t u against it in all games” take is bad. That’s like saying if you’re going to try to stop your dad from smoking why don’t u try to stop all the people u see on the street from smoking. They want change in Genshin because they care about Genshin.

  22. If people are unhappy with skin color then why don’t they play something that has more variety of skin color or customization games? Not every game in the whole world has the option to appease every single audience. But they will stick around to the bitter end just because why? If you enjoy the game then that’s good. If not then just play another game that aka fits your quote? Yet these people are complaining by not doing anything that’s more positive and yet be more negative helps? Why don’t they make a game that has only dark characters skin tone? Yet the backlash will be similar or none at all because it’s simple “people in general don’t care what race your are” their there for content, story, gameplay etc that’s what makes up for a good game. I hope these people find comfort from what they do irl and not bash others for their sense of entertainment and hopefully not to people irl. At the end of the day it’s just a game. Have a fantastic day everyone much love to you all <3
