We've only seen what Dain is like now that he's all emo and lonely so we have no idea what he was like with Lumine. He could have been a total menace like Ajaw and Lumine was just looking for any excuse to ditch him. Maybe the "found a teacher" is Aether and Paimon are being used as an example of how to be travel buddies.

Paimon is a child, she can be immature but she tries to be helpful and is always very compassionate especially with the Traveler. Ajaw is just straight up arrogant and insufferable, he's fine in small doses but his whole shtick can get very old really fast, he's one of very few characters where I skip the dialogue 🤣
