Is Leveling Units to 90 REALLY Necessary? | Genshin Impact 4.1 Discussion

As I was making the Freminet guide, I was wondering that now I have an established account, how much resources I should be investing into each character that I level up. In this brief Genshin discussion video, I cover whether or not leveling a unit to 90 is worth it, and what cases you can get away with only leveling them to 80 or even below.

As always, I use what sources that are publicly available to me, so feel free to point out anything I got wrong below. I’m also open to anyone that can fact-check any future videos I produce, my discord DM is richyrich8301.

  1. I think it goes saying (as many comments have said) Yes to:
    – transformative reaction characters
    – 5 star DPS characters you are using for Abyss
    – characters with gimmicks that scale with levels to trigger effects (e.g. Jean in Abyss wants lv90 if you plan to play her by using fall damage/vaccum abyss lv110 enemies)
    – Units you use the most cuz they're ur waifu/husbando/fav

I mean, why level everyone up to 90 when resources are limited anyway? Unless you're a completionist or at endgame.

  2. Correct me if I am wrong but I think the damage received of the enemy will also differ based on how far the level gap is. Example a level 95 mob in abyss will be more tankier if your team is on level 80 compared to your team being on level 90. Even if their abilities do not scale off their stats. The formula goes like this if I recall correctly: (100+Your Level)/(200+Your Level+Enemy Level). This means that if you are level 90 you will have a 0.4935 multiplier. If you are 80 you will be at 0.48. Not that much different but if the enemies are at 3 million hp like in abyss, that is around 81,000 more damage. Let's put it with the context of level 100 floor 12 chamber 3 enemies, the multiplier will become 0.4737 (level 80) compared to a 0.4872 (level 90) multiplier which again is a ~2.7% damage difference. Do note that all of this are still assuming that the enemy does not have resistance, but if they do have those multiplier are still to be multiplied to their resistance, e.g. a 10% resistance, it will become something like this (All Damage Multiplier * Level Multiplier * 90%(10% resistance)). Aside from that like many people are mentioning in here transformative reaction are also scaling off the levels of the characters. TL;DR: I would have to say that as long as your character is a sub dps or deals considerable damage even through reactions, they should be level 90.

  3. Good video even though I'm a veteran at this point and learned nothing I just watched it because why not.
Big problem though, your character talents I kept spotting as you cycle characters are really, really low. 70 is too low minus maybe niche shielders, I recommend going to lvl 80 for 8 level talents. It's hard to take you seriously if you have a 1/6/5 diona but actually used that in abyss, or a 1/4/10 Yelan. Yelan's skill is a ton of DPS you are missing out on.

  4. IMO if I'm taking a unit into Abyss 12 they need to be level 80 ascended at minimum, even support characters.
Beyond the raw damage gain, you also need to consider the level difference penalty multiplier between you and the enemy.
The more levels you are under the enemy, the less damage you do to them. Likewise, the more levels you are under the enemy, the more damage they do to you.
The second part is perhaps the more important factor for normies that can't perfect dodge everything, as being higher level will lower chances of getting oneshotted and malding every run.

  5. Having played for 3 years I don't care anymore. level 90 and talents 8/8/8 are my baseline, every character gets that treatment, even my Amber has it already. And if higher talent gives the character an advantage, it gets it too. And of course I level up every new character, including 4*s. And I still have pauses in between them when everybody is leveled up and all I have to spend my resin on is artifacts. But it took me about two years to get there, because at the start everybody gets flooded with characters, mainly 4*s and it takes time for that flood to cease.

  6. I want to add that even if a unit will not get a significant damage increase from 80 to 90, ascending them to 80/90 is still worth it for the ascention stat increase and the ability to level up talents to lvl 10.

  7. tbh i play from 1.5 and buy the bps
i got my who tao ,raiden ,neuvilette and zhongli at 90 and rest is lvl 80 or 71
i get so much xp books passivley weekly from teapot and events that im fine for live tbh but priority is xp for characters that scale off hp and ur main dps kindna
neuv got like 2k more hp from lvl 80 to 90 so yea
tbh if ur newer etc its best to just ascend 80 and maybe go 90 for ur main dps/hp scaler
