i had the same reaction while hunting for scarabs (there's one scarab down there)
at first i just thought it was a randon ruin golem or sumn that spawns there, but then i saw the eye light up and shoot which made me go
"THAT THING CAN SHOOT?!"
i accepted the world quest to deactivate it, but i havent done it yet because im doing the pyramid quest
(yknow the 2 part long world quest that unlock the pyramids to get more pain inducing sand beetles)

that's literally what happened to me when I first visited that place, I'm gliding and suddenly something is locking aim at me, I thought there's a ruin guard beneath me, then suddenly I saw a glow from afar I'm be like "Break! break! break! Taking heavy fire! Evasive maneuver now!' 😆

I had Zhongli's shield up when it first shot me so I thought I was getting attacked by an enemy and just refreshed the shield until I realised that it that the ruin guard. Zhongli's shield laughs at the runi guard puny attempts to take him out.
I also used the beams to kill the hilichurls for me lmao.

Idk how but I managed to speak to the dude who gives you the quest to disable it before I even encountered it 🤣 I wish I was surprised by a laser beam
