Is this a guide or did I just trick you into watching my Akademiya dissertation? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
This was a passion project of mine that I was working on for several weeks before I quit Genshin earlier in 2023, which I've just got back around to wrapping up. There are already a lot of excellent guides on the topic of Artifact Farming, so this video might not bring anything groundbreaking to the table, but I'm still hoping there are some interesting things you can take away from the approach I've taken in tackling this topic.
I didn't know about the strongbox artifacts being more likely to have 4 substats. This is a great breakdown, and really seems similar to my experience building characters like Xiangling vs characters like Ayaka.
The thing like Husks domain that have a different bias (less likely to get DEF sands than any other domains for example) is sucks. Hoyo knows what we want, and lower the odds on what we want out of that domain
HOLY STUNLOCKED EMMMMMMMMM, EMMMMMM, EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Huge respect for doing what i wanted someone to do! But i think you can do a LOT better.
Show lowest and highest result on your graph. (may not be very good idea with your current setup)
Hmmm you following local gradient? Thats potentially bad, at the very least you you have to start with already semi decent set to get out of attack attractor basin? Or you handle it somehow?
Also you will probably stuck in some other local basins, when you can only replace some atifacts together. Expect your results to be more erratic because of this.
Another point is that you starting by saying that you know how to farm artifacts properly, but do you really? I want simulation to tell me what is proper way of farming artifacts, by forcing it to do what you think is right prevents you from noticing you are wrong.
You not handling off-pieces? Its another interesting question: what off pieces are worth levelling? Some of my offpieces are flowers and sands, not only goblets!
By the way remember crit value? With proper methodology you can calculate actual value, including assigning value to ER and even valuing crit rate lover than crit damage for some cases.
What i think you should do is level all artifacts and find best combination after each week. (of course for say 100 virtual characters in parallel). Your progress should be smoother and much closer to reality this way. Big problem is – pretty sure finding best combination is straight up computationally intractable so you need heuristic and this is tricky part. I think raiting artifacts by their value and selecting 5 best overall and 5 with weight of one stat inflated should get you really close to optimal setup – hopefully close enough for results to be practically sound. (you get your ER weight buy keeping track of "more damage but bit less ER" build, not only your best build)
Then you can look at your hundred builds after each week and ask: how many goblets have 0 critvalue? How many flowers are off-pieces? When 4 liner feather with only 1 crit line stop appearing? You can get good character-specific artifact recommendation this way, and even personalized recommendations if you load artifacts from your account into simulation.
What is the intent of the player that you assume in this video that you would have such artifact guidelines at the end (2 weeks for mainstat with 3-8 weeks of substat farming)? It is true that you can reach diminishing returns very quickly in the process of building after the 10 week mark as you've proven, but do all players even need the power of 10 weeks' worth of artifacts on a character to begin with? Or in some cases, is 10 weeks even enough? If you are trying to build 2 teams for the sole purpose of 36 starring the abyss, much, much less than that amount of time is even necessary to obtain the required artifacts even in the context of crit builds. If you're trying to build characters to be capable of comfortably clearing most content then maybe this would be the suitable amount of time. But lastly would be if a player intends to speedrun content, wherein the concept of diminishing returns only exists for if the strength of artifacts can no longer improve the time of the run (usually by virtue of not saving any additional actions), the threshold would easily certainly lie far higher than even the 20 weeks in the case of some characters.
Thanks for your hard work. Your video is still plenty helpful for me so I can manage my artifact farming time better, although I probably will still farm Hunter and GT sets until 4.0
half of audience be like what he yapping 😂
Ayo man this is one of another unicon content for genshin community, the way to see in artifact progression is missing for a long time and that make some player give up and quit the game
Thanks for this great video, Jyo! It's always good to see an old topic be discussed from a new point of view.
I feel the ~10 weeks approach so reliable right now with my Navia 😂 I passed the 4.3 update building her, and then the previous update (4.4) trying to get a better CR circlet, and ended the 6 weeks with NOTHING NEW related to 4.3, lol.
But, as I was just trying to improve my build, and I'm a veteran with my favourite chars and weapons at MAX levels and most of the talents at 8~9, I'm good to burn my resin with artifacts for now until the next new char or weapon I'll possibly get.
Anyway, it's good to know these results, I'll probably will spend less weeks to improve future characters and more weeks enjoying them.
Good stuff!
Then I remembered that I'm a perfectionist ;_;
I love videos like these, where it greatly helps out newer players by telling them optimal uses of stuff so that they can avoid making newbie mistakes (and uses solid math to back up the claims so that it's difficult for even the skeptics to not believe it), but also offers useful statistics for veteran players such as myself.
I often see many new players say that they do certain things (that are really un-optimal, such as using their 5* artifacts as fodder while converting their 1-3* artifacts into mora [NOT a hypothetical example]), and when I tell them how inefficient that is, they just choose to not take my advice and just do what they believe. Videos like these offer more data/proof for such people to actually perhaps change their mind.
Dude I swear you're a natural at this
Everything is so easily digestible
You should make an app of this …. I want to use this program so bas
08:29 I can't take it anymore. I'm sick of xiangling. I try to play diluc. My xiangling deals more damage. I try to play yoimiya. My xiangling deals more damage. I try to play Hu tao. My xiangling deals more damage. I want to play Klee. Her best team has xiangling. I want to play raiden, childe. They both want xiangling.
She grabs me by the throat. I fish for her. I cook for her. I give her the catch. She isn't satisfied. I pull engulfing lightning. "I don't need this much er" She tells me. "Give me more field time." She grabs bennett and forces him to throw himself off enemies. "You just need to funnel me more. I can deal more damage with homa."
I can't pull for homa, I don't have enough primogems. She grabs my credit card. It declines. "Guess this is the end." She grabs gouba. She says "Gouba, get them." There is no hint of sadness in his eyes. Nothing but pure, no icd pyro application. What a cruel world.
First time seeing your video and subbed right away. Really clear and concise explanation. Keep it up!
As a Veteran Player, I find this very helpful. Thank you Good Sir!
this is an attractive display of some of the important statistics but it really really needs to be said that you should never be farming artifacts for only a single character at a time, which this video for some reason doesn't mention. even if its one of those domains where one set is literally garbage, the rolls a piece of it could have can easily end up being so good that they blow any set out of the water, not to mention that EVERY character has one free artifact slot that doesn't need to be on-set, AND rainbow (no set at all) setups can often be bis.
also hot tip, look at exile and instructor 4 star pieces when you kill bosses, those sets are bis on some setups with characters like zhongli and gorou.
interesting how 20 weeks is not enough to get scara into the top 15% on akasha
Can you set the goal as a perfect artifact with all 4 perfect substats and run your simulation to see how many iterations it could take to reach it?
Your work is outstanding
brooo i've been farming desert pavilion domain for about a year now, just trying to get the perfect artifacts for scaramouche. turns out i should've just raise other characters 😅
Thanks for this. I'm the type a person that needs some kind of quota/indicator to know when/where is a good stopping point.
Being able to see when to stop farming was nice.
fuck genshin, I will never build another character again what's point I can already 36 star the abyss and it all seems so pointless
Love seeing these data driven videos on artifact farming.
Hi guys, i need some advice🙏🏻
I wanted to finish building my hyperbloom team but it’s been 2 weeks and i didn’t find any em goblet and circlet. the crazy part is that i’m getting a lot with good crit but very few characters can use these i guess
This is the best info video about farming, thanks man. All this calculation must have taken huge time.
best video on artifact farming on this platform, congrats 🙂
bro cooks well, this is such a good and educational video
Bro can i look into your source codes, as a programmer myself this is groundbreaking
Protect Jyo at all cost
What a great video! As someone who has started to hit the artifact farming part for my characters, this is such a good breakdown for knowing how much time/resin to invest into a character
16:05 @Zy0x the stunlock is over
I just keep going until I’m top 10% on the akasha and switch character. It’s more difficult to gauge though with characters that don’t have an akasha leaderboard. I usually stop if I go two full weeks without an upgrade to the character I’m farming for in that case.
THE GOAT IS BACK!!
The issue is, that these companies manipulate rates, there are not objective known rates, the rates might work for some people but not for others. Nexon (Maple Story) lost a trial for doing exactly this, they denied it and then they have been found guilty. Their system had a drop/upgrade chance for certain items, extremely low, but they modified this for some players to be ZERO. I think Genshin does this as well or very similar practices.
Really well done, thanks for the video!
A thousand times to be able to start counting consistency… If that alone doesn't tell you how absolutely broken and ridiculous the RNG is for artifacts and farming them, I don't know what is.
have been a while I click on the sub button.
This is some dedication right there, people.
I'm F2P playing since day 1, 4 years almost. I never got good artifacts for Ganyu for permafrost build, I still don't have great artifacts for Xianglin or even Raiden. I got great artifacts for Yelan in 1 week. Ganyu perma frost is the hardest of all to build, anything that wants attack and crit, is hard. Xiangling can use ER and EM, gets easier but still, Attack and crit makes it impossible to optimize. Yelan or Nahida are easier, Nahida because of EM, crit and ER balance. Yelan easier, because of HP, same for Furina, pretty easy I got hers quick, even when the character and domain were new, because she wants HP and HP is easier to build, drop rate of HP is higher, in top stats and sub stats. So depends on character but Xiangling is not really easy, and Ganyu is the harder one. Ayaka is also hard to build, except crown. Also, Carry DPS are harder to build, usually. Sub DPS are somehow easier.
I would say forget about artifacts, it doesn't matter, you get what you get, what you can, there is no strategy at all. Just wish for powerful characters, archons first and then the meta SUB dps. Avoid Carry DPS, they don't matter. LVL up characters, and weapons (should be obvious), First lvl up the character, then weapon, then go for artifacts, or in days where weapon material domain is not open. For what stats you want, you lock the artifiacts that are candidates for good results, the genshin impact helper chart has very simple chart guides for each character so you know what artifacts each character should use. Look at the chart and lock the artifacts that are closer to what the build requires. Like I said, Yelan, Furina, Nahida are easier, Kazuha is also easy because he doesn't need that much of anything, he needs EM, and he doesn't even need to build talents. Xinqiu is hard as fuck to build, but Ganyu is even worse.
This is all, good luck.
the dendro update just made it a lot harder, not just because of the goblet element, all artifacts are harder to get with any good stats idk what they changed, I remember that you could farm 3 months and your characters were awesome like 90% of the way to be "perfect" with their stats, now it is 3 months if you are really lucky and use all your resin just in artifacts, it took me 9 months to farm for wanderer and he is still "missing" 2 artifacts
Honestly this vid was a pretty good reminder for me that my HSR relic farming progress is barely half a year in at best so I really shouldn’t be expecting them to be on par with my Genshin artifacts
Commenting for better reach and yt algo. It's easy to see how much passion you have for TC, keep making good content! CHEERS mate!
Do you have a discord channel btw? I love number punching more than gaming as well most of the times.
A question I had while watching the strongbox potion of the video is “when should I strongbox my artifacts?” I really struggle with the timeframe of strongboxing my artifacts
