Honkai: Star Rail Will NEVER Beat Genshin Impact

I am not saying we need to abolish all sweaty content and behavior in the game, I love a lot of that stuff! I just want to point out an issue that worries me for the future of Honkai: Star Rail.

  1. The HSR thing was a good take i believe. Sure some people got into it cuz of Dr ratio or so they claim, but players like this never actually stay because they come for free rewards and then experience it, dump it a month or two in. Lot of GI players left for HSR simply cuz of the reward system and it's another hoyoverse game that looked better, so for people saying GI didn't help it get a community, that part is extremely hard to believe.

Biggest issue with HSR is the turn based combat and lack of open world which will be a ceiling that the game will never overcome. Which isn't a bad thing, Dokkan and a few others use this as well but again, they aren't as popular as GI atm whos ceiling is way above these two comparisons ( COPIUM potential if you will )

  2. Imo, as of now, no, Honkai Star Rail will not surpass Genshin. And it probably won't for a long time.

I do think however as time goes on and more IPs Hoyoverse comes up with releases and gets popular, alongside a number of other games that go for the open world/BOTW like game, it's likely that genshin will just fade with time.

And that's normal, even as a game that is intended for a younger audience, at some point most people as they get older find other stuff to take interest in and walk away from stuff they used to play.

And yeah, the amount of people who project their gameplay onto others in genshin is a pain in the ass, the amount of players and fans that have such a major issue with your account being different than theirs can be infuriating. And unfortunately, it's not something that is exclusive to Genshin (I've dealt with this in PGR as well).

  3. I respectfully disagree with this take.
I can understand that Hex had some bad experiences with some players that came into her streams, shtting on her account, but streching it by saying that the entire community as well as the game itself are purely catering to sweaty gamers is just simply not true.
HSR is a very simple game, very casual, much like Genshin. It doesn't require much skill, if not any actually. Also, I would argue that the variety of content brought by CCs is not restricted to just meta stuff. Maybe it's primarily meta content, sure, but Genshin is surely not in a better spot when it comes to content variety. In fact, with how dry Genshin is rn there is hardly anything to talk about. The only Genshin content I see is quite literally just the drama.
I don't think HSR success depends entirely on Genshin's existance, nor the community will self-destruct itself just because of some few dumb mf. The game is doing its own thing and it's entirely capable on its own, self-sufficient and indipendent. The fact it won so many awards last year is proof of that I think.

  4. I spend money on this game to get characters I enjoy and find appealing. However, spending money to go extreme tryhard is insane. Most people are not tryhards, I like going at pace and relic farming should not really be a thing until like what, 4-6months on average? Also, HOT TAKE: Elden Ring SUCKS!!! LET'S GO RUNESCAPE!

  5. At long last, an unbiased HSR take I can agree with that's not just the usual Genshit vs Honkshit Starbucks, like it's two factions believing in a different Santa Claus.
Ironically, I'm starting to think WW is more likely to be an HSR killer than a Genshin killer.
It feels like the majority of vocal HSR players are burnt-out ex-Genshin players who have been longing for sweatier content and are so adamant on calling out Genshin players over a free 5star .png and better untangible rewards of arbitrary value, they are simply coping themselves. The fact that Acheron is hyped as a must-pull, the one with a skill that allows to skip some of that turn-based riveting gameplay speaks volume.

  6. I figured I would come in to give some advice for new players.
The "minimum" end game requirements are a meterstick to measure your characters, not a bible to live.
Hp and def aren't entirely dead stats you need SOME tankiness to not die in MoC.
Generally 3000-3500 hp and 1000 def.

You generally want to build supports with the minimum stats they need to do thier job and then HP/def/spd.
For example Pela wants Effect hit rate and Energy recharge and spd boots, but outside of that, you can get away with a lot of HP/Def.

Speed thresholds are there so you can tell how many extra actions you get and on which cycles (the spreadsheet going around)

Break effect is an underrated stat for new players because it doesn't require good gear to do damage, just for a good element and for the character to break.

Also build up your first core team and get them good gear instead of contantly pulling new characters. At a certain point, you will have too many to build and no enough resources.

Idk how helpful this is, but this advice helped me when I first started.

  7. I do understand what you mean about sweaty players, but I feel like the game itself is not that sweaty. It has a good balance between sweat and chill and I would be upset if they started to make HSR more casual. It has it's audience and it doesn't really need to be as popular as Genshin, it's successful enough as it is.

Also I would argue that this game is much funnier than Genshin. Genshin's story is more lighthearted in general, yes, but I can't remember anything actually funny, maybe except for some banter with Paimon, but it got real annoying real fast.

  8. I feel like something special now. 😀 I started Genshin because I sped through Honkai too fast and then had to wait forever for the updates. I'm still playing both, but Honkai will always be my top priority.

  9. People need to just remember that this is a single player game. If people can have that mindset then your pulls, your experience and your spending become so much more enjoyable. I can not understand why people continue to flex and compete in a single player game.

  10. I think the story is a good example of something non-sweaty that people gravitate to. It has actual good writing. With it being turn based I think it also appeals to Persona fans. It’s not all sweat. Also, thanks for including my shit comments in your video. kekw

  11. Somebody here is huffing the copium vapes real hard. Im a very casual player on Star Rail and whatever Im hearing rn is stinking bs.

If you like Genshin more than Star Rail thats perfectly fine, but maybe you missed out on the latest livestream.

Im not a creator so idk much. But, y'know, try to make sense for once

  12. There are so many technical things in Star rail that keep me from getting sweaty about it. "0 cycle clears, speed tuning" are nonsense terms to me. how people are achieving like the exact number in speed they want makes no sense to me, and it is not something I desire in the slightest. So I'm never gonna spend money in Star rail cause there is no benefit to me. If I still need to rely on RNG to make sure units go in whatever order they're supposed to, what is the point.

If I can't 3 star MoC or PF still after having spent money cause of my skill issue, then it would have been money wasted. And missing 60-120 jades here and there isn't a big deal.

  13. genshins combat is why i quit. the idea of pulling for an off fierld character is incredibly cringe and the elemental system hamstrings build diversity be the reactions are so unbalanced

  14. You're so right. I didn't pay attention to that side of the community since i thought they were just a couple of annoying yappers that would live in their own niche not causing issues to the larger community. It was the Iyo "drama" that has made me an advocate for not sweaty content and chatters. Who in their right mind would call another person slurs for a f*cking pve p2w turn based rpg GACHA game FUCKING TIERLIST, ARE YALL GOOD?! TOUCH GRASS FFS.

  15. I totally agree on elitist behaviour being super cringe, you do not need to speed tune to beat this game, and you can get by with pretty average relics or builds. I will say, i dont think the annoying community is exclusively an hsr problem. It has an elitist problem which can be unique to it, but ive heard and seen countless streamers have a horrible new player experience with genshin because they kept having people spam them in chat on where to go, what to do, the optimal way of doing thing, which characters are good or bad, etc. idk if that still happens nowadays, but i know it was a problem for a long time. I defintely think hsr has an elitist problem for sure, and i think its a problem alot of turn based gachas have, but it just isnt as prevalent in those games because the communities aren't as large. In anycase, i agree, this issue should be addressed, and shouldn't be left to fester and become worse.

  16. Nah, intro's pretty shit tbh. It's not representing your personality or type of content at all. ESPECIALLY when you say something, then intro, then you continue to speak. I feel like going through roller coaster of energy, your low relaxing energy, then high energy with fast and loud intro, and after that low energy till the end. Intro maybe needed, sure, but not this one.

  17. I didn’t know that some people just start randomly being nit picky about character stats. Most of the time I just wanna vibe and chill. I can absolutely get behind trying to make the HSR community more casual friendly now that I know how it is in some Streams.

  18. I agree with the elitist take..but I also think this is a one sided arguement HSR twitch normally has around 3k-5k viewers average which is not a huge amount for the number of possible active players…the other view is the person who just downloaded the game on their phone and never watches any content which there are probably more of thoes type of people vs thoes who watch twitch streams as someone who has a few friends that play the game and dont watch any content for it (I dont get it) but that's how they are…so I think the carried by twitch community is pushing it a little bit sure it helps but I dont think it's as big as people in the streamer perspective bubble think but I could be wrong just my opinion

  19. Damn Hex spitting facts, I seriously need to be spoon feed on relics and stats its very hard for me to grasp. Literally this past weekend I was in Gatcha Smacks discord in VC and the dudes there were helping me go through my relics and helping me trash the ones I didn't need and re-build my two core teams just so I can clear PF and MoC because I haven't been able to clear past lvl fucking 4!!! I still love this game though hahaha XD

  20. All my rl friends that play are casual with it and love it. But they also don’t have random people sending them messages telling them their characters suck =x

But they love the story, the characters, all the mini games and events, and really couldn’t care any less about maxing Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction. And for combat events, normally what you need for the jades is pretty easy for them to hit so they don’t care as much if they miss out on the extra 40k credits.

I think streamers definitely have it harder when trying to casually enjoy a game just because of all the random input and exaggerated reactions. Hope you are able to still enjoy the game over time and it doesn’t wear on you too much!

(Also totally valid to say F*** speed and put damage boots on everyone. Will get you through everything but hardest end game content, and maybe even still be fine then in time.)

  21. When it comes to the content i enjoy from these games, it's usually the goofy ones, or light hearted ones. I would rather someone try to beat spiral abyss with a dps gorou than just looking at min maxing. I already learned that I will probably never be at the level I see in the videos, and I'm fine with that. All the fake drama that pops up with these games also turns me away, why try to farm for views when you can just make interesting content. The community has been getting too toxic, sometimes it's best to ignore it

  22. I had some trouble getting the point of the video til the tail end of it, but it sounds like backseating and gatekeeping is the problem more than the nature of the content around it and the design of the game. And that your point is that the nature of said content fosters the gatekeeping which in turn results in backseating.
    Pretty easy to understand.

I don't think it's worth much to debate how HSR as a game caters to sweatier players simply because the devs are gonna dev. Nobody outside of Hoyo can do much about that. Content on the other hand, sure. Easiest way for that as viewers would be to signal to creators that we appreciate the goofier and non-technical side of stuff. The .exe vids are a good example. Mtashed and Braxophone's covers that they dropped are a meta that I kinda hope gets real traction. Character guides are definitely technical but I think they're a good way to help newcomers.

Will anything anyone does get rid of backseaters and gatekeepers completely? No. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying to welcome new players.

  23. 2.1 live stream was my first ever watching hsr live stream, they got 14k views, even tectone beat that
meanwhile genshin reach 100k + views, i just know that genshin is still this big. i think by that reason alone is enough to make the conclusion.

so it is true then, genshin player is like doesnt care at all about hsr player hate their game alot. they just enjoying the game.

  24. All the issues you stated are also issues of the Genshin community. Everyone saying how you need X characters, or don't pull for X characters, or Geo is a dead element etc.
I do agree that there's a lack of Honkai Starrail content, but that's because everyone believes that Genshin is more popular and thus makes more content for Genshin. It's been around longer and had the Covid boost.
For me Honkai Starrail has a more serious story and a more mature cast (in comparison, Genshin's story is more childish at times and most of the cast is children). It also has better and more clever humor, which I appreciate alot. And personally, I LOVE the turn based gameplay, me being a Persona fan. I know it's not for everyone, but for me, characters get to shine alot more with their cinematic moves in Honkai StarRail than in Genshin (compare any special move in Genshin that lasts for 1-2 seconds, with any normal or special move in Honkai StarRail, which are definitely more impressive).
Overall, I do agree that we need more content from content creators, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the community. Or at least, anything that isn't already present in Genshin's community as well.

  25. Not really on your side with this take. I see the sweaty people guides, and I just see what the sweaty people aim for and I divide it by half and am happy with it. I do not give a single damn about 0 cycle. About having the perfect ratio crit/crit dmg. I clear all the content and my account is average at best. I stopped watching Smack, Pokke and the rest cause I was tired of the sweaty behavior. I just wanna play the game.

  26. In hsr we do not see crit kokomi for instance or anything fun/amusing its just boring. Lol Content is always the same, you'll never see something warped…something actually unique. Seeing a dps Barbara, a afk Deyha etc nothing memeing as if HSR is void of anything fun which is a sad state. Cause it is fun Im expecting to see another teehee drama vid from hsr cc's now as typical thing.

  27. Am I stupid or is gambling just really fun, everybody says the Gacha is like a turn off or an instant NO-GO but its a plus in my opinion its just fun to see if you can get lucky
Everybody also says the "predatory aspect" of the Gacha is bad but like I don't care if you can't control yourself to not spend money then you probably shouldn't be playing video games in the first place

  28. This is my opinion. Most of your points are incorrect and are most likely due to your specific experience with those random sweat chatters. I have no clue what I'm doing, have played on and off since it released, mostly just did dailies and yet I've massively enjoyed this game because it's simply built exceptionally well. Every game has sweaty players, elden ring is far worse in most of these points and still absolutely exploded, even with the DS stans acting stupid. Anyway, that's my college essay, hope you enjoyed.

  29. Personally, PERSONALLY, I disagree with some of this. I did not even TRY Genshin until I'd played Honkai Star Rail. And not everyone wants an open world RPG. I loved Honkai Star Rail from the gate, BECAUSE it was a turn based game. Turn based JRPG's are what paved my childhood and every single game that I loved as a child had turn based combat at its core. And I think anyone who grew up with that like I did, would easily find Honkai Star Rail without the help of Genshin.I still haven't really gotten into Genshin, and Honkai Star Rail was my first Gacha ever.
