Genshin Impact Sumeru Drama From A Chinese Perspective

In Genshin Impact we have a severe lack of racial diversity and this all comes to a boiling point where Genshin Impact’s Sumeru leaks seemingly off-putting to say the least.

  1. As someone who grew up in an environment where how I looked was the cause of my suffering, I want to say that being different does NOT mean you are lesser.

Also, for those who didn't finish watching the video before racing to leave an angry comment. I DO NOT support what Hoyoverse is doing here, but that does not mean it does not make sense from Hoyoverse's perspective. Understanding the cause of the problem is the first step to solving it. Instead of rushing in guns blazing, let's assess the situation and see where we can put the most pressure to resolve this. Hope this video provides insight.

  2. Something I’ve noticed is that mondstalt, liyue, inazuma are very culturally based while sumeru with arguablely the most amount of cultures is based mostly on dendro and a sort of plant theme. Like the archon for example, she’s very obviously plant and nature themed but she has little to no cultural influence. Same thing with weapons for example the inazuma craftables vs the leaked sumeru weapons. Similar to what you’ve said it’s probably cause south east Asia and Egypt arnt big markets for HoYo so they don’t feel like need to represent them the same way they’ve done with Japan and China

  3. Chinese tiktok videos will always freak me out because they deadass make themselves look like whitewall colored and edit the video to look long and skinny. really weird but that's their beauty standards ig

  4. Good video bring light to people ( no pun ) lol but for me I’m ok since the market will buy it and it’s a game also from
Game design they prob have templates to pump
    Content faster which is normal

  5. Why aren't there more "not pale" characters?
Because they wouldn't sell as well
What do you mean? Why not?
Because we, as a player base, don't like dark skin, and Hoyo knows this… Vote with your wallet
    Wow that's racist….
Nope! Just Chinese standards… Plus, most of the enemies are dark skin, stop complaining

  6. I disagree. Because of money Hoyoverse is scared that racists won't buy darker skin characters. So it is only Kaeya and Xinyana.
Hoyoverse: no diversity = more money.

  7. See this is what happens when u make a bad reputation to the player base, every small thing gets criticized even tho the characters aren't even out yet nor has their design been finalized. Tbf hoyo brought these burnt out drama thirsty community upon themselves with how they usually handle things involving genshin, most honkai or star rail peeps are pretty chill compared to this one.

Everyday my reputation as a genshin player gets worse bruhhhh. We cant ever have a day without review bombing hoyo for every little thing.. there's plenty other flaws within the game that CAN REALLY use this much energy of complaint but nooooo. We all gotta complain over stupid skin tones of characters thats designs are still subject to change and dont even make up 10% of the sumeru region characters. Hek spoiler, one out of the seven has a dark skin design.

  8. I agree that It's is based on the Chinese and making money.

But is not from a beauty standpoint and more from a distaste of dark skinned people in general (and that's putting it lightly)

Japan is a lot more accepting of tanned skinned people in anime and games so I'm not sure how they got involved in this explanation.

I'm dark skinned and still play the game and is well aware how china sees my people but I'm not going to hate the game for it since I know the CCP is very heavy handed what can be allowed in their game (especially their recent ban on effeminate men in basically anything)
The lack of tanned people in a hot sunny region is a bit off-putting but nothing to go rioting about and rather complain about improvements for the abyss and more challenging coop content

  9. No normal person gives a rat's ass about this "diversity" crap.

I'm african and I literally could care less about "diversity", I just want a good fucking game.

  10. Yoruichi from Bleach has a clearly darker skin tone, both manga and anime, still she was always on top 3 from Shonen Jump best waifu polls in Japan.
Edit: moreover, Yoruichi was created with a noble extraction and background, as former chief of one of the 4 top ancient families in Soul Society.

You can successfully design appealing, cool, handsome and badass characters of any damn color. For any public.
This is just the easiest way for Hoyo. Human greediness has no borders nor colors.
