Genshin Impact is NOT New Player Friendly

Unfortunately Genshin Impact is unfortunately NOT New Player Friendly. Today were going to be going over a few reasons why Genshin Impact can be a bit difficult for new players to navigate and play right off the bat. I wanted to bring these issues up especially since Yae Miko is right around the corner Hopefully by bringing these design flaws to light Mihoyo can back the needed changes sometime in the future.

  1. Do you think Genshin is fine as is? Or does Mihoyo need to rework the current system?

Personally I really hope that Mihoyo figures out a way to fix these issues, because otherwise they might start to have long lasting effects for the future of the game. Hopefully they are working on a solution as we speak! (Hopefully not copium)

  2. Excellent video (as usual)! Thank you for bringing these issues into the conversation because I agree–these are not small problems.

It's no surprise to any day-one player that the game actively punishes new players for starting late. Join late? Cool. You can't experience a number of events, you cannot obtain any event specific weapons, and you cannot catch up on certain story moments without turning to youtube or a wiki entry on some fan page somewhere. You also cannot build new characters but you can DEFINITELY wish for them. Definitely do that.

I do, however, disagree that this is a common problem among gatcha games because, *in my limited experience*, other gatcha games tend to have a complete rerun to allow older players a chance to experience story that they missed and access equipment that they didn't get. Not so in Genshin. Instead, we have (so far) been given new perspectives on old events (which is great for day-one players) but leads to excluding newer players.

I agree with you that there can be simple changes to make new players feel more welcome.

I think that the new character mats issue can easily be solved by introducing a conversion system that will allow a new player to build the characters they paid for. In order to prevent veteran players (a funny term given that the game is just over a year old) from abusing the system, simply disable the conversion ability if you have unlocked the region in which the material are found. That way older players cannot benefit from something they frankly don't need. I'm sure a bunch of older players will complain that this isn't fair but honestly, I disagree with that perspective. Older players didn't have this problem when they started… why exactly should new players be punished for the heinous crime of… starting late?

Ultimately, MHY must be aware of these problems because they are glaring flaws that actively prevent me from telling my friend to pick up the game. And honestly, that's a shame because it is a thoroughly enjoyable game… so long as you picked it up on day one.

  3. I agree with all the points you made. I think mhy will eventually have a dual event system, where older events are run alongside new ones, depending on a player's AR. Or, simply run old events on an individual account schedule (e.g. 2 weeks after you start, unreconciled stars is unlocked). Obviously they can remove the rewards or significantly downgrade them to encourage keeping up

  4. The character material should be available in certain areas everywhere you go (Like the inazuma pearls should flow to liyue beaches and such.) Then the bosses should have a portal that teleports them to that boss area without unlocking that area like the mechanism boss in inazuma.

And There should be character hangouts that give you the free event weapons even if it was just r1, then the refinement materials should be craftable,

  5. Super agree with point 3. I started playing during kokomi banner. Not counting the -crit part, all my friends recommended not to pull for her simply because I won't be able to level her up.
I also got Kujou Sara very early from wishing. But not able to reach Inazuma means I cannot build her as well as Aloy the free 5 star archer to even pass 20. Kokomi at that time at least gave tryout rewards which her ascension material so you can get to level 40 which I suppose is good enough when you're just starting off.

  6. So I play on two different accounts. I like to hold off on story quest on my second account so I can re experience it 3 or 4 months afterwards. With the new event I'm forced to rush through the story way quicker than I want to. I wanted to re live the Shenhe stuff 4 months down the line but if I want these rewards I can't. My second account is AR 56. I could not imagine being a new player if I have to rush through stuff on my AR 56 account and it makes no sense.

So many people always say Genshin is a casual game anytime anyone complains about end game. And you know what even though I want end game and resin changes that's fine. But then at the same token, Genshin forces new players to rush through the best part of the game just to play a new character. I could see new players rushing through the game to get Yae leveled, burning out and quitting. So then who does the game actually serve? Long term players don't have meaningful end game or content to do during filler patches. And new or more causal players get punished for either being new or not login for a day or a week. The balence is bad and Genshin has to fix it. As of now new players should avoid any character released after Eula and its such a shame.

Sorry for the rant but this drives me crazy. I want new players to have the same experience I did that made me fall inlove with the game. I dont want them to be pressured to rush the best part of the gamr

  7. I really want to get the other free weapons. I just started playing last year so I missed some free weapons. I really think that these weapons will be a great help for players who just started playing for those who try to play because of ads of genshin impact on YouTube.

  9. I started playing at v.1.2 so I missed the reconciling stars event, and funny enough I didn't know how to participate in the event to get the festering desire, because I didn't know I had to do some quests first, and at that time I was spending my time exploring instead. So here's my opinion about the points you raised:

    1. I don't care if I missed events and rewards.

    2. Yes I know about Scaramouche from Youtube, and I don't care that I didn't experience it in the game.

    3. I do have the cinnabar spindle, but if I didn't, I definitely would not have cared.

    4. Characters are playable immediately after obtaining them at level 1. That bein said, the game gives you enough materials to level them up to 40/40. The fact that you don't have Inazuma unlocked yet means either you don't even have a high enough WL to require characters to be above 40, so no issue here. Or you're willfully refusing to play the main quest, so it's a "you" issue, not a game issue.

  10. i was around ar20 when i had decided to roll for raiden, bad mistake. however i still wanted to play the game at my own pace since im a sucker for story plot and lore, so i just built my other characters and used them as a placeholder until i was able to unlock inazuma. i do still feel upset over the events that i've missed, but props to those who record them and post it on youtube.

  11. NOT TO MENTION that it used to be that you had to have an even higher AR level to get to inazuma. mihoyo lowered it down so people could get there faster. imagine they never did that.

  12. Howdy! I started playing this game on 12/18/2021, in the middle of the Itto banner. I'm a whale/min-maxer so all of these reasons hit me pretty hard. On top of not being able to ascend my Itto for the first 2 weeks of playing, knowing that I won't have the BIS weapon for one of his premier supports (Albedo) REALLY pissed me off. The only (and I mean ONLY) reason why I am playing this game instead of another game like this is because of my friends. This game is a dumpster fire for new players.

  14. I like the idea of exchangeable boss mats. My suggestion is that early players who want to get materials from a boss they can't access yet should be able to to get it by exchanging what they get from the bosses that they can access, but once they are able to access the boss that they couldn't early on in the game, they lose the ability to exchange mats for that boss. This is so that veteran players don't take advantage of this system, and it's also less of a reason for new players to rush through the story.

  15. If anything they really need to lower the AR to go to inazuma so it’s more accessible. Maybe AR 20 instead. At least as we get more places lower the level needed to access regions

  16. for point 2, I feel like Genshin could have just put limited time weapons into NPC shops. remember the Catch? they could start pulling event weapons there so that it would entice people into fishing more often. legit I forgot fishing existed until the new region. or hell, you can put them in the teapot shop. putting them behind star glitter feels kind of mean, since it's a constantly rotating shop, so it maybe a few months before people have access to them. as for limited story event, they could have totally just unlocked it behind 5* story quests and just unlock them with commission keys.

  17. heyo! I started 3 months ago and I’m AR50 and having a great time! I see the issue, but it’s really okay as long as you pay attention and keep up with stuff you have to do! Everyone seems to be pretty helpful and I’ve never met anyone who’s rude yet 🙂

  18. Item idea for this conundrum: Mythological fragments and prisms. The fragments can replace accession materials but can only be used on a character under 70 and prisms are the same idea but with talents, these items are dropped from any boss along side their usual materials gating them to lower level characters only would be a good way to circumvent the problem of those being taken advantage of to max out characters.

  19. for story events i do agree. they should get a chance to atleast play through them. But that beimg said after the first scaramouche event, mihoyo has been very careful about the limited time story events. not a single one of them has been canonical to the main story this far. So clearly they're thinling about it.
As for event difficulty and rewards, if they make it all new player friendly, they will loose the exclusivity and harm the loyal player base.
yes new players will miss out on certain weapons or free 4 star characters, but there is always an alternative of those weapons in the gacha. giving them out in exchange of any currency will devalue their exclusivity.
Lastly, the issue with newer character levelling. Yes this is an issue that might be discouraging for new players on paper. But I seriously do not see a way around it. Mihoyo is trying to make rerun rotations faster, So clearly they're working on it too

  21. Let's just be real here I play genshin but not on a daily basis last year I took breaks for 5-6 month so it's not that easy to level up and ever since the new characters came out I had to play every single day just to get the ascension materials

  22. if i already feel bad for not playing when the game was 6 months old with all the content and events i missed, i cant imagine how bad i'd feel if i started to play on dk celesti

  23. Maybe they can put the ascension materials / boss materials required for new characters in the ongoing event shop and sell it with the shop currency.

Maybe Mihoyo can even go as far as to make Genshin even more open-world and open up all regions regardless of AR level or story quest progression too!

  24. I only started at the beginning of December but my account still feels very weak since for a long time I didn't understand anything about artifacts or leveling talents so I wasn't using my resin daily and idek what I was doing I still have so many gd quests to do but I knew I wanted to take part in the lantern rite so I could get a free character. I already was past ar 28 but I hadn't finished the quests needed to take part so I spent the last 3 days (when I had time) i think speed running the quests so I could join the event.

  25. I have a friend started playing a month ago, and I have been advising her to not pull on recent Inasuma characters since she cannot level them up anytime soon. Luckily she is super happy with Xiao lol

  26. Did you know that after the interlude chapter, the reward was 2 golden wolflord ascension mats to take one newer character up to level 50, instead of 40. That's a start…

  27. That's one of the reasons why I will most likely skip Yae Miko. Since you can only get her talents up to 6/6/6 at the beginning (because of new Boss – new Materials)
and until you have exactly the 12-18 boss materials you need, it will take quite a bit of time ever based on how lucky you are.
My experience is that I usually get the materials that I don't necessarily need at the moment. And yes, I know you can convert the materials with the Dream Solvent,
but you have to get them first and then in the required quantity. In addition, you might need them for another character, etc.
It's so satisfying to be able to use a character right from the start, because you had the ability to farm everything together.
In my opinion it makes more sense that you put a new character (that needs new materials from a new boss that is released with this character at the same time)
in the second half of an update. This gives you the opportunity to farm these boss materials at least 3 weeks before the character released (in the best case).
But that's all just my opinion…
