This drama is a burning hay before sumeru, ppl thought it's gone but it's still burning, now natlan is just a catalyst. If you look at all of mihoyo games then you can know that they have a biase with dark skin, dehya feels like a half ass char with all over place kits in term of support or dps, many ppl have been frustrated with summeru and wait for opportunity to unleash it. Part of the reason is they dont know how to make dark skin characters look good in their game, feel like they just make them there for show. I ve played honkai before, almost zero dark or tanned skin char, so dont expect them to change their art style which is the formula for their games to get money.

What a lot of Americans don't seem to understand is that most cultures would already be happy with them being represented in the first place. I come from Southeast Asia and my region has no reference in the game. I don't give a shit, I love this game it's amazing. If they decided to add any reference to my culture in any way, like a food item or something, I would be jumping for joy, even if it was inaccurate. How many people from those minority countries/regions have you actually interacted with who actively complain and attack hoyoverse for their "misrepresentation"? Representation isn't just skin color. Thinking so would ironically be racist in of itself.
Also, often times the cultures that the white American woke mob are trying to "defend" don't even give a shit in the first place. It reminds me of that video where a guy went around an American college dressed in Mexican cultural attire, and he got called out for "cultural appropriation". Then he went to a latin american area where Mexicans thought it was funny and looked good on him. The cultures literally don't care.
Based off 4 years of this game being out, and a similar incident with Sumeru, Hoyoverse will not care. The reason is because it's only the vocal minority that are complaining about skin colour. Most of the players don't care and are going to continue playing. If they gimp the anniversary rewards though, oh boy, everyone got riled up, and so only then they cared.
The most ironic thing out of all of this is that the people complaining about Natlan are the same people complaining about Sumeru. Why are they continuing to play the game if they got so mad over Sumeru? They get mad, only to continue playing and in some cases spend money on banners.

It's universally true that Genshin's source of materials are from real-life entities, but it doesn't mean that they will take it as 1:1 copy of it. They take entities from it, create the image based on their own talent, and make a lore about it. That's why the game is so colorful and diverse to the point that it got it's solid reputation on modern games.
And to those who tried to bring down this game through slander and boycotting, it won't budge at all. They already forgot that the very core of the game is fiction. 😏
This is just another cancel campaign possibly organized by Sweet Baby Inc.. A bunch of people tried to run this campaign last year (Sumeru release), they did the same petition, but the movement failed massively with less than a thousand people signing. This year, they pushed over 70k, how? There has to be an entity behind it, pushing forward this movement. The whole practice screams Kim Belair's textbook instructions on how to extort companies using fear tactics.
