  3. they probably didnt add a space because thats his full first name, unlike hu tao who’s surname is Hu (zhongli calls her director hu). a little unfortunate his name is spelt that way though 😅

  5. writing his name as GaMing or Ga-Ming would make it inconsistent with other characters who only have their names (without surnames) written in-game (example; ZhongLi, GanYu, ShenHe, etc). and putting a space in between like this (Ga Ming) would make it seem like "Ga" is is surname (like how its with Hu Tao, Yun Jin, etc).

    its basically a coincidence that Gaming (the Cantonese transliteration) looks/reads like an actual english word (im sure there are other names in the name that also read like something else in a different language, but ofc when it happens in english it gets the most attention). Some people have suggested Jiaming (Mandarin) instead of Gaming (Cantonese), but id really like for that to not happen because Gaming is the Cantonese way of saying it (its culturally very important and meaningful, and theres likely similar thought process for why they chose this way of saying it rather than the Mandarin way of saying it).

    honestly, hoyoverse probably knew and acknowledged that "Gaming" will probably be an issue for english version, they just didnt care about that confusion as much. i assume theyre hoping this will be a good learning experience and/or theyre counting on the en dub to make sure en speakers know how its said in-game (not perfectly ofc, but jp doesnt exactly pronounce names correctly either yet they dont get any flak (which is a good thing); en should be treated the same way because this is just what localization is like for any language).

    also, imo, the "gaming memes" are pretty harmless, i cant expect english speakers to not read a word thats written in english as an english word that they are familiar with; i draw the line at people being knowingly disrespectful though, they should at least put some effort into saying the name the way its intended to be said (even with an accent)

Sooo when I saw Gaming’s drip marketing for the first time I didnt realize how much of a conversation his name was gonna spark, I had just assumed that the name is likely pronounced differently (I’m interested to see if the way I’m pronouncing it inside my head) since it’s Chinese. I however got fixated on the fact that it’s looking like we may be getting LIYUE’S OTHER PORT!!! YILONG WHARF!!! I had seen little hints that it existed but thought it was gonna be like Mondstadt’s port, continually non-existent 😅
