I think the reason why fontainian turned to water was because their ancestor were originally an ancient oceanid who has gone extreme hydro mimicking. This mimicking was very extreme,they even completely forgot who they are,even develop flesh and blood like human. Primordial sea water cancel this mimic,return them into oceanid like the one we found under fountain of lucine. Perhaps this is the sins every fountainian born with, sins of impersonating human lives.
