Classical Composer Reacts to GENSHIN IMPACT: La Signora Battle Theme | The Daily Doug (Episode 689)

#genshinimpact #lasignora

In this edition of #thedailydoug, I’m returning to the world of gaming with the La Signora Battle Theme from Genshin Impact, composed by Yu-Peng Chen. In much the same way as past reactions, I was quite impressed with the musicality and sounds from this theme. I really enjoy being exposed to these new sounds that I never knew existed. And, I hope to return to music from this game again soon! I hope you enjoy!

  1. Genshin music, trust me, is golden.

Scaramouche battle theme, Tartaglia, Divine damsel of devastation, Furina's "all the world's a stage", even other things like the 4 main Sumeru battle theme.

Summary of Genshin: Magic & Melee anime characters travel from nation to nation to stop evil, but with culture, music, and regions based on real life countries or locations. Fontaine is French, for instance. They go SO SO SO hard with it, it is seriously stunning. Global Warming flooding, changing timelines, dead gods, everything is in this game.

Btw fun fact, Fatui Harbingers are based on Commedia'dellarte opera characters, right down to their names.

  2. genshin music is really well crafted! I suggest you something recent, La Vaguelette, which has lyrics or something like the new region theme, Le Souvenir avec le crepuscule. If you want something from yu peng chen I suggest Polumnia Omnia 🙂

  3. Great reaction! Fellow composer here. I started playing Genshin Impact when it just released and I wasn't going in expecting any kind of musical masterpiece, thinking "oh, it's just going to be another anime gacha game." Boy, how silly did I sound back then. Few days later as I sat through the game with the music in the background, I found myself in awe, pondering "what is this music?", "who composed this?". Honestly, even after being over two decades into my music career, Genshin soundtrack has shown me colors I've never seen before. Yu-Peng Chen truly is a genius along with HoYo-MiX. He has undoubtedly cemented his place as one of the generational greats of video game music. I'd put him up there with Nobuo Uematsu.

I see many other great recommendations in the comments. But as a fellow composer to another, I recommend "Rite of Battle". The depth, complexity, virtuosity, mastery and "pretentiousness" put into this piece has no place in a video game soundtrack, but it works so well. Personally, I believe it's the piece that truly shows off Yu-Peng Chen's musicianship and genius.

I am glad you got into Genshin OST. You are in for a treat, seriously. You've earned yourself a subscriber and I look forward to enjoying more of your reactions.

  4. I'd really like to see your reaction to music from the Monster Hunter series. I think the original version of Proof of a Hero is one of the most, if not the most iconic, song from the series if you do decide to delve into it.

  5. I play Genshin everyday for 3 years now. There are many factors why i play this for so long now.

One of the major factors is the music. The first time i realized this is something special was when i stopped playing just to listen to the music. For me that first piece was "a new day with hope" in the Mondstadt Area.

From that point on i deeply fell i love with the Music from Genshin. There are countless amazing pieces to find here. I espacially love the La Signoras Boss Theme, it catches me every time.

And i'am sure many others will agree with me how amazing and beautiful the music in this game is.

  6. please please please react to the Fontaine ost of genshin impact ! Fontaine's music is more classical, i seen some people said the Fontaine's music is not catchy or too classical so they thought the Fontaine's music is not good as the other, and it make me sad😢, to me the Fontaine's music is new and classical, you can see the shadow of classical music in the music, i'm surprised with this, i hope more people can know about the charm of classical music through this, the ost is 3 hour long, so i suggest you listen to the following first :

    Fontaine Live Symphony Performance
    Lamentation et Triomphe (Battle Theme)
Aubade of Coppelia / Envoi of Coppelius (Boss Theme)
    ,Poesy of Chrysolite
    City of Mellifluous Glory
    Harmonia of Polysynodie (Palais Mermonia)
    Quo Vadis (Poisson/Spina di Rosula)
    Peripatetic Peregrination (Day)
    Langage des fleurs (Day)
    Demain, des l'aube (Night)
    Oath of Many Waters (Vocal)

all of those can find in youtube👍(sorry if there has any wrong with my english)

  8. The music was also produced in london, uk, hollywood, and japanese orchestra teams as well depending on the region of the game. there's definitely a cutural authenticity to it. definitely check out their concerts!

  9. I would suggest Baldur's Gate 3 soundtrack by Borislav Slavov – it is a modern masterpiece, the 3 movements for the main theme are fantastic. I cannot remember anything else like that in gaming. Live concert in London next year sold out in seconds.

  10. Genshin Impact is arguably one of the best (and most diverse) games when it comes to its music as each “region” in the game is based off of a real countries

It scales from western all the way to eastern music. Some examples being Chinese, Japanese, Middle Eastern/North African, French, and so much more.

Currently we’re on the French nation of the game as its constantly being updated

  11. As a Genshin player, one of the things that made me fall in love the most in this game is its soundtrack, it's really on another level compared to other games in my opinion.
Yu-Peng Chen left Hoyo-mix (the part of the company tasked to making its music) recently, but the quality hasn't dropped, as the Fontaine main theme concert has shown. Also the thing I love in Genshin Music is that each region has its theme, is inspired from real regions, and the hoyo-mix people use and integrate traditional intstruments or instruments isnpired to the "element" of the region. For example, Fontaine is the nation of water and they used crystal glasses and glass harmonica for its music.

    Here's my suggestions:
Die Mittsommernacht Fantasie (my personal favorite)
    Venti's theme
    Azhdaha battle theme (all phases)
Duel in the Mists (I swear this one is heavy metal but with traditional japanese instruments)
Raiden Shogun battle theme (there are several)
    Scaramouche battle all phases
    Port Ormos day/night
Gilded runner (they used Fibonacci's sequence to compose this one)
    Collei's theme
Fontaine main theme (I highly suggest watching the live concert version)
