Catalysts – The Worst Weapon Type? | Genshin Impact

For today’s video we’re gonna talk about Catalysts in Genshin Impact. Among its current roster of characters, Catalyst users suffer from the lowest usage, leading many to believe the problem is a result of the weapon type itself (and the conventions applied to those who wield it). Let’s figure out what could be the problem(s)!

  1. I main Yanfei and I think her energy problem is solved decently, since she needs to get three seals to buff the charged atk, you want to get the hits in so it's probably something like; 'e, CA, 3 NA, CA and repeat' even if the energy wouldn't be a problem. By the time I get out of stamina I need to change to my supports anyways.
Also besides Ganyu, best bow users are supports as well (or I missed someone), Yoimiya is cool but she doesn't have the aoe at all.
Oh and I think Yanfei's attacks are the easiest to control out of the three, she can attack faster than Ninguang and she has a tall model and she isn't as clunky as Klee. So for me it's pretty easy to get a normal attack before charged one 😀
At the end of the day catalysts were forgotten, because Mihoyo didn't make a character who is as broken as Hu Tao or Ganyu yet. and also Ningugang was supposed to be a 5 star and I'm still mad they chose Keqing over her.

  2. Everywhere I've seen opposition to my team or people saying its extremely weak

I run an overload comp and im a yanfei main.

And tbh some of the dps crazy genshin players can be a bit toxic. Most of them are cool and just enjoy getting those high dmg hits. They just like to play like that. And I like to play the way I do. For high dmg purposes or the best team comps you can make arguments against my play style, but thats the thing about genshin.
Sure it might be a bit harder to fight some enemies without those super awesome high dmg reaction comps and builds, but you can still do it. You can do whatever you want. Run a full hydro team if you really want to. Run a whole physical dmg team. Do whatever you want. Dont let stats dictate how you enjoy the game. If you want to have the best characters, comps, builds, etc. then you go ahead and do that too.

  3. little follow up about my "making the catalyst the claymore of ranged" idea, what if they actually added a SIXTH category? that way we would have 3 melee weapons and 3 ranged ones, balanced in the same way, one with fast and weak attacks, one with balanced attacks and one with slow and powerful attacks (maybe use guns, the fatui have guns so why can't we?)

  4. I main Ningguang and she really shines at C6. Her jade screen's cool down has the ability to reset every 6 seconds so I can bonk enemies twice, when she has star jades her charged attack doesn't consume stamina (you just fire a normal attack and obtain a star jade, it's that easy) and on top of that her 6th constellations gives her 7 star jades after using her Q

  5. Hey! Yanfei and Eula main here! I like catalysts a lot, why? Bc they're All elemental shield breakers, Yanfei? Cryo shield burner, Barbara Pyro, and so and so, no matter the build, if you need to grind enemies with shields, bring, a, catalyst! they've saved my life so many times in fights, bc i have broken shields, stunned enemies and won, Eula and other melees cannot do this, and whilst bow users can it is so, slow. catalysts, don't have that problem. so, in conclusion shield breaker catalyst = good and correct!

  6. I think catalysts are supposed to be played to churn out elemental reactions faster with off-field elemental skills like xingqiu and xiangling’s skill/burst or the kokomi jellyfish and fischl’s oz. which is theoretically pretty good except there are so many elemental infusions (diluc ult, chongyun skill, c6 benny, childe skill) and coupled with a character’s skill already doing elemental damage, there really isn’t much of a point.
this goes double for sucrose and ningguang, since anemo and geo inherently aren’t built for reactions

  7. I'm currently maining Ningguang, and all I have to say about the current roster of catalyst users is this: Mihoyo has a lot of room for creativity, yet they choose not to utilize it. I feel as though Kokomi was a step towards that creativity, with her flying around everywhere and doing somersaults, but every other catalyst just stands in position and doesn't move. They could do so much more with their movement, and that's honestly my only issue with catalyst users right now as I'm not as drawn to them as other players.

  8. It really surprises me how people are not talking much about the rise of needing a catalyst user (specifically like Ningguang, Yanfei, and even Kokomi) in ur team as the game progresses with new enemies and bosses that especially move a lot.
I've been a Ningguang (or generally a catalyst user) main since 1.0 and I've always felt 'safe' and just a little bit confident whenever I face a new enemy sent in our way. Doesn't matter what tricks they have up their sleeve, whether they keep shifting or moving back or flying away, my Ningguang's auto-locked charged star jades will follow the enemy when they're moving. The only thing I need to worry about is staying alive with a shielder and/or healer (and even then, I got pretty good at dodging because of maining her where I don't have to worry whether or not the star jades managed to hit home cuz u can actually dodge the moment u charge atk, unlike Yanfei where I have to stay still and wait for the charge atk to land first).

Meanwhile, I get to laugh at my friends complaining that the enemies keep moving away lol.
There are bows, but the charge atk doesn't do much if ur bad at aiming and u don't have Ganyu, and their normal attacks have a higher chance to miss enemies.

  9. I have gotten Yanfei from my first ten pull, and have mained her ever since. I find catalyst users important because i highly rely on elemental reactions. By the way, Yanfei's charge attack is op. I just wish they could lower the stamina cost.

  10. Meanwhile, I freaking love catalysts and HATE bow users. I haven't even touched Childe since I got him, and I'll whale for Venti only because I like him as a character and wanna complete my Archon collection. Also, I main DPS Yanfei and Barbara is my second most used Hydro character after Xingqiu. For me, I have no issues locking on with my catalysts users. I prefer catalyst users specifically because they are good at locking on the targets especially if they are far away, up in the tree, on standing on something too high. It also gives me long range so I can attack from far away without getting damage from opponents. If they get close I can easily maneuver or doge. In the same time it would take me to take out an opponent with a catalyst user with a bow user I would already be dead still trying to aim at a moving opponent that is firing at me.
