  2. Lol "if kids want to do it they will find a way"… that applies to the US. You can't say the same for China. They appear to actually enforce their regulations… for better or for worse.

  4. I'm not sure about the "WSJ is a reliable source" lol. But in this case, China did messed up by listening to the monster parents, 1 hour per day make more sense to me, and age 16-17 should be in a different bracket

  5. There is only 1 last loop hole around this ban for kids. And it is bad parents. First off, it's not just any number that you create game accounts with, it's your personal ID number. So the only way around this 3 hours a week block is for an adult to fully support you. What I mean by support is that China already knew kids are going to use their ignorant parent's ID number to get around the original ban (yes, this has already been a law, the only new thing is the hour, other parts of the law includes kids under 18 can't buy microtransaction for example). The way China handle kids using their parent's ID to play games is to require a face check with you holding your ID in your hand in certain interval during your game session.

So basically, with this new law, the only way for kids to play more than 3 hours a week is for an adult to be readily available and consent to their kids playing games, aka it's not the government's fucking problem deal with your shitty kid anymore.

  6. As someone who has Chinese parents that talk about their past growing up and has cousins in China who are attending school all I have to say is the Chinese school system is stressful, more stressful than you can imagine so not being able to use video games as an outlet for stress is honestly absurd.

  7. This is really true, I mean life really is hard, and I can officially say I'm one of those ppl that are really addicted to games… and me being a makeup artist, with covid atm, or in general, even before covid, jobs in that industry are rare, but truthfully, I'm gonna keep moving forward 🌟🌟🦋

  8. Omg, i agree so much. We are being held to a MUCH higher standard than generations before us. Just looking at the percentage of people who go to uni, the amount of work people are expected to do in their workplace is always more than what you can handle and if you cant then "you need to learn how to multitask" "you need to learn not to take it personally" etc etc. The amount of time you are given to process information and respond has shortened and it takes a strain on us so much. I've long been thinking that while my grandma typed up 1 letter at her work in 1955, probably during that time i send 10 emails and have answered 8 phone calls. I do feel that majority of people are being pushed to their limits. 🙁

  9. Don't worry, as a "facebook mom" I will argue with everyone of those bleach blonde box dyed straight bang looking Karens on the gaming communities behalf if I ever see some dumb post about it. There are a lot of gaming moms out there that will join in too. We got you guys. Let Mama Violet deal with them.

  10. sad thing is, I feel like it could lead to higher sucide rates… Alot of people use gaming as an escape from reality to help cope, I'm very very hopefully this doesn't happen but it is in the back of my mind

  11. Most of what you said is inaccurate at best. What you did nail on the head is the rant about chinese culture pressuring people to succeed by monetary value standard, but china isn't banning genshin, they're not banning games, and there are no feasible loop hole around this new regulation.

  12. But I do think Dr. K´s points on predatory mechanics that invoke feelings of pressure/a need to play aka fueling addiction needs to be toned down or the government will step in.
It is up to the industry if they are going to go the way of tobacco companies trying to fight it with fake studies about addiction or if they stop the loot boxes, daily logins, battle passes, reward loops, etc. that are emotionally and financially hurting people who are targeted by such mechanics.
Blaming video games for people not being productive? I would not support that.
Blaming the video game inustry for predatory mechanics that support addictions? That shit needs to go or be regulated

  13. You think its not 3% but 10-20%…

Maybe you should do some research about that, tectone.

I live in mainland China over 20 years
, the number feels very accurate to me.
Tectone has no idea what he is talking about, he throws away a ramdon number and not making any study into the background context at all. People who lived in the first class city(guangzhou, shenzhen, shanghai, beijing) averaging about 770 USDollar per month, the countryside and under developed area earns half of that in comparison.

  14. This post is for whoever want to have some bits of information about the situation and not fall in the common pits of "those damn comunist and tyrants"!!

THE REALITY is that the law was passed by popular demand and the demand is: PARENTS.

This is what news outlets dont actually bother to explain. There is massive culture of being the best student and study hard in china they have normal school and then they go to private school to study even more sometimes there is bootcamps and they are away form the family to study, because what matters is grades, grades ,grades which equates to sucess, suces, sucess in the mind of the parents and this is cultural issue that predates modern china and has it roots on imperial china , so is quite enrooted in the chinese society.

So the reason why it was passed in such a singular manner is that many young people only find time to play when someone is not watching so: Late Night! As a result they dont sleep , which in return makes them drowsy in the morning which means they cant have laser focus to once again have the BEST GRADES.

Which is what matters to the parents because there is alot of competition in education because as teccy said you didnt enter university? what was your average? bad? you are loserand brought same to the family!!! on the eyes of your parents in china works like that ( other asian countries work like this but they are not the western boogeyman so no one bothers), this is what going on there: an extreme pressure to study.

When results are not met something has to be blamed, so : Videogames.

So in other news that western outlets do not care to share, actually the chinese government is trying to revise this situation of this extreme study schedule, to what extent they will accomplish that no one knows, because is getting more and more extreme for example: teachers having to work in the public sector plus private sector because there is crazy demand for private tutoring to get better results which actually cerates inequality in the educational system because of lack of resources of families compared to others so it is really bad.

This happens because china is facing because a raid groth in tec modernization(as we in west are) and a severe lack of jobs for young qualified adults, which is the main fear that drives the parents to these crazy study regimes, yes they do have the same problems there , what a shock (not).

PS: So before blaming the evil governement of china please inform yourselfs of what is actually happening there not what western media outlets sell you , and if you dislike the chinese government and want a laugh about it go search how they have failed to promote LGBT rigths/tolerance because they forgot of how would it be perceived and what it means in chinese society , spoilers: they will fail for a long time, and not exactly because chinese people are homophobic, but is easier to say they are so it wraps headlines in the west.

  15. it would be amazing if people actually paid attention to the politics like this that matters. If people actually canceled things that need canceled the world would be a much different place. There's literally enough gamers to just say f*** you China the gamers are all too worried about streaming on twitch versus YouTube

  16. I think they don’t quite understand games. Study’s have been done that say entertainment is a need . Games are a form of entertainment and are therefore good, but they have to be done in moderation. I believe this is the responsibility of the parents and the discipline of the child, not the government. I am sad to say they are trampling on their god given rights… sadly this is normal for China.

  17. you are a fool on this one,man i am a chinese, they use facial recognition to randomly check on the gamers who are playing, so even with their parents id number(you called code), they wont work, the harsh reality, cherish the freedom you guys have, dont take it for granted
