Are Elemental Reactions Designed Poorly? | Genshin Impact

Having made a video discussing ways to buff Electro, as well as videos on characters who share a common problem being a lack of synergy with reactions, I wanted to make a video talking about the pros and cons of Elemental Reactions, and whether it unfairly limits certain characters from being considered “good”

  1. My only thing is. Reaction are not poorly designed by all means. The idea is absolutely fantastic. But it could be better in some way of from later on. Adding more elements to the game in the future. (If they add) Will need a constant rething of them.

  2. I think this has got to be my favourite video of yours so far, because the topic itself harbors something that has annoyed me since day 1. When I got into the game, I liked (and still like) Childe & Keqing the most. It was Childe's first rerun so I was lucky to get him – yet my friends told me how "bad" electro and hydro is, how pyro and cryo are the damage dealers and if I would've come into the game early I couldve had people like liyue's big three.
Even today I keep on hearing "Oh if Childe would be pyro like he looks like due to his outfit, he'd be top tier hyper carry" and I'm just thinking "???" why do we evulate a ton of characters by their element and their reactions instead of their kit. I finally lost the 50/50 to Keqing last month and mine does great damage, even if electro has no excess to the most damaging reactions at all, like Childe at least does.
I also like that you mentioned the whole fiasco pre-release Raiden. People were so upset she, apparently, was gonna be stuck behind her element and not being able to fully unleash her potentional and this is even being said til this day. Whenever there's a new character approaching and it is not a cryo or pyro a big majority goes "ugh…nah", but if it is infact another one then suddenly we have too many of them.

If Genshin would implent a more complicated system now that everyone and their grandma is familar with how they work this might be able to open up new ways on how to play the game and make people realize how valuable and great certain units actually are. There's only some characters who did get their respect within the community as well as their mains, but for the most of them they're locked behind their elemental reactions and deemed "bad".

  3. While I like the idea of reactions on a fundamental level, my problem with them is the imbalance surrounding them. Some are extremely powerful, while some others are borderline useless. Plus the fact that in order to play some characters effectivelly you are streamlined into a very specific composition by these reactions, which kinda limits choice.

Don't like any pyro character? Too bad. The best reactions in the game use pyro. Thanks, game.

  4. i like the element system and i use it frequently but mostly my characters didnt even use the amplifying reaction like melt and especially vaporize (i didnt even build my childe and mona) recently i finally 9 star 12-3 with my main team being the no reaction team that consist of anemo and geo only(xiao team) but to me seeing my raw damage without amplifier(except for buffs oc) is so satisfying

  5. Things like electro reactions, hydro resonance certainly need a rework at some point, and I hope it's sooner than later. Characters like Keqing need a rework in their own right. If they just gave her a charge attack animation like Xiao's she'd become infinitely better.

  6. as someone who often runs 2 anemo 2 geo it's nice to see this being discussed. because I really don't use elemental reactions the way most min-maxers recommend, but i have plenty of fun anyway and my dual anemo-geo team is one of my strongest; i just ended up liking anemo and geo characters more, so they're the ones I've invested the most in.

  7. Electro element should be self stacking – Induction style. The more stacks of electro, the more powerful the reaction.

More knock back and damage for overload, scaling superconduct, etc etc.

The elemental reactions are great, there just aren’t enough characters that play into reactions.

Imagine an electro healer that heals on reactions

  8. The only thing I hope for is dendro have something to do with stamina because we really need it for keqing, ayaka, hutao, phys jean and rosaria . Because when u think about it dendro = oxygen and it make sense with burning reaction because oxygen infuses fire + oxygen gives u more stamina in real life to.

  9. Eula is the only future proof unit because she doesn't need reactions at all. Shes the only unit in the whole game that isn't a slave to elemental reactions at all. Thus she will be good from now until the game ends.

  10. If mono element teams are too truly compete with reaction teams we need more characters like Yunjin and Gorou and less characters like Sara. Gorou does not need C6 to boost Geo Damage like Sara needs C6 to boost Electro crit damage. I want to see an electro unit that buff electro damage or has a electro resistance shred either in a ascension passive, a skill or at worst C1 or C2. I feel like Yoimiya and Klee would gain so much from having a pyro support that boost pyro damage the way Gorou can. Xiao could use a similar anemone support.

  11. I'm of the opinion that characters like Hu Tao, Diluc, Keqing, and others don't need elemental reactions. Sure they are helpful but over the years of playing videogames with elemental "units" I've found that my playstyle (build HP and ATK to brute force everything with one or two characters) doesn't work too well with elemental reactions. Though there are characters who need elemental reactions Kazuha and Sucrose being the ones that pop into my head. (I am very aware of the fact that they are meant for support.)

That being said reactions are useful for BIG Numbers… so in my opinion if the elements are already there (in the environment) I'll use them if not well… Bruiser time.

  12. I don't play Genshin, I liked the idea of the game, but couldn't like the game enough to stay in it, in the end even lucky Kokomi roll didn't keep me in. But… My gods, how I love hearing you talk about it, because you really don't take any side, just talk. It's not another "Here is how broken this character is, step one, get all constelations, step two, perfect equipment" I really love any talk about "What if…" and maybe you could make video like that "What if said character had different vision" "How I'd change said character", I'd definet… Definita… I'd watch it for sure! Quality content if I've ever seen one.

  13. Short said – yes they are. Not only reactions, but Elements in overall, because MHY forgets two important Elements completely even – Light and Dark, despite them clearly existing in the world, otherwise there wouldnt exist days n nights in the game, they play gameplay technically (at least so far) no role sadly at all. The Reactions n Synergies are poorly thought out, which is why the game is currently totally dominated by Pyro and Cryo, because of Melt, followed by Anemo and now Geo, because of the latest new characters.

The reaction system is flawed, because it doesnt let logical things exist so far, like the fact, that Anemo and Geo need to have a logical reaction too, which is Swirl, or the fact. that Geo should have like all other Elements also offensive reactions too, things like Mud (Hydro) are a no brainer!!! but it doesnt exist and you have logically to ask yourself for the reason WHY??? when its so simple to let Geo Reactions have either a defensive, or offensive effect, based on it, which Element was the active trigger.
Means, if Other Element actively hits on a Geo Target, the Reaction has to be logically Crystallization, because Geo was in the defense, so the result is a defensive reaction to the offensive element, unless Geo attacks Geo = no reaction. Thats logically absorbed then, like hitting a Geo Slime with Geo = no damage, cause it got absorbed.
If Geo actively attacks an other Element, like say Hydro, the result has to be logically an offensive Geo Reaction, in this case then Mud, resulting in hit targets receiving Geo Damage and getting slowed down in Movement Speed/Attack Speed drastically, which increases, so more oftenly you get mudded in in quick repeat. and the mud begins to get hard, slowly turning into a petrification, when its duration ends.
If Geo hits on Electro, the offensive result is logically Magnetism, resulting in targets getting pushed away, like beign hit by a shockwave, simialr to Overcharge, just with Geo Damage instead of pyro Damage, or reverse, getting pulled towards you, to make it more interesting, to reduce gaps between you and your target without needing to move!!.
You see with these simple 2 examples, that if MHY wanted, that there easily could exist Reactions for geo same as much, as for all other Elements. The only exception of this rule is Anemo, because its immaterial reaction is and shoudl be for all elements with Swirl the same, because it has the role as the Aoe Spreader Element, which turns single target effects into aoe effects of the reacting element. And that makes perfectly sense!!!

Thats why i clearly say, that the reaction system in this game is crap, because it didnt get thought through to the end for all elements in a way, that MhY shoudl have done for it in order to make Genshin a better n more fun game.
Genshin seriously needs a balancing Patch, which hopefully will come, once Dendro gets finally added together with its new Reactions and Element Synergy Effect of grouping two of the same element characters together, like hopefulyl an Health Buff Effect, that would be great n most logical for the element of literally life, to buff up literally life points of our characters to make their survivability better, plus it woudl be great synergy with Healer Characters n DPS Characters that depend of having as much LP as possible, like Zhongli, Hu Tao, Beidou, Kokomi, Barbara, Diona, Bennett, Xingqiu, Amber, Yanfei, all characters that somehow more or less depend their performance on having as much Max LP as possible, if Dendro wont buff Max LP as part of the gameplay design ,I will be seriously disappointed, because seeign how many charqacters are already reliant on Max Hp for peformance in more or less obvious ways, makes it clear, how much of a great impact Dendro wpuld make in the game, if it seriously will be the LP Buffer Element in the game and theres yet no other element in the game fulfilling this exact specific role so far..

  14. I just wish geo actualy had elemental reactions. Used noelle since the beginning and a 4 geo comp ever since 1.2. Crystallize has never impacted anything. It doesn't reduce any dmg because shields cant stack. Only sometimes helps in ar 20 or lower.
