[4.7] Of Sinners and Kings – Genshin Impact Lore & Theory

Did you know in some Gnostic sects there aren’t just seven archons, but twelve? Seven of them rule the heavens, and five rule the abyss.

Soooo… seven archons and five sinners in Teyvat? How apropos.

  1. *NOTES & CORRECTIONS*
    – Re: Fisher King name origin – this seems to be pretty contested and I didn't go into much detail (since this video isn't really about him or Fischl), but he gets his name from Le Morte d'Arthur where he's called Peschor, Petchere, or Peschour which literally means "fisherman". This is a homynym with the word Pécheur which means "sinner". It's kind of a weird pun-situation, kinda like how the Holy Grail gets called "sangrael" which then gets conflated with sang roial which means royal blood. REGARDLESS of IRL veracity, Hoyo LOVES their wordplay/puns which is why I brought this one up with regards to Fischl.
Just wanted to clear that up!

    – I keep calling "The Ring Cycle" Nibelungenlied which is not it's name, but the name of the original epic it's based on. The fact that Wagner made an opera out of this legend IS relevant, but the source material is close enough for our lore-purposes that I hope you can overlook my unintentional overlap.

  3. I have be a fan for some time now and I realize that you struggle with pronouncing German words. As a bilingual person I would love to help with pronouncing and meaning of German words.
(By the way, I find it hilarious how you butcher the worlds)

  4. I don’t really think PrinzesSIN would be a pun here. In German you have male and female endings for Nouns that relate to people. So a male teacher is a Lehrer, but a female one is a Lehrerin, normally ending with a “in” at the end. A princess in German is simply Prinzessin and not Prinzes.

  5. I wish they would just let us have Pale Princess books- that goddamn book explains EVERYTHING and its biggest gatekeeping of the lore for no reason 😭 PLEASE I BEG YOU HOYO JUST GIVE US THE DAMN BOOK so we can speculate more openly

  6. I used to be so excited for your lore videos don't get me wrong you do an amazing job explaining the lore and i still watch your videos becaz you're so passionate abt it, but recently, i feel like Genshin does such a poor job explaining their own lore, its either lock behind a wall of text or you have to go actively searching for it. We have to wait for years just to get some crumbs… Like how we learned abt the Descenders from Nahida and then there was no information until we learned abt the Gnosis like they are really dragging their feets when it comes to actual information on things its exhausting

  7. It could be that irmin IS hroptatyr as in norse myths, odin is said to have many disguises for himself whenever he walks amongst mortals. The hooded one. So it could be that hroptatyr is actually irmin in disguise

  8. I did not think watching a mandlore gaming video reviewing the failed game adaptation of a german six hour play would be related to the greater plot of genshin

  9. My dumbass thought that the "arrow" at 19:23 was pointing at the weird gold design in the background. Then a few seconds later with the next symbol I realised it was not an "arrow"

  10. If Vedrfolnir is a visionary then we can say that there are strong parallelisms between Genshin and Star Rail because Elio, the founder of the Stellaron Hunters is also a prophet.

His description from the wiki: Elio, also known as Destiny's Slave, is the leader of the Stellaron Hunters. Possessing the ability to foresee future possibilities, he uses "scripts" to guide his hunters in their missions.

  11. I had a thought while playing the Petrichor quests. Many famous or godlike entities from before the cataclysm (Deshret, Remus, etc.) all seem to have been focused on something. Deshret was forbidden knowledge. Remus was fate. Seems like this points to people back then trying their ways to break the samsara cycle (and failing). I used to think that, while interesting, these stories didn't tie into the main story. I've since changed my mind.

This probably was obvious to any serious lore reader.

  12. Maybe having one person have a vision ould be useful for a new loom of fate, if they want to copy the irminsul's data, you know, as a backup. Otherwise they might destroy everything in teyvat.

  13. Maybe, Kaeya was a candidate for the loom of fate. but ever since he lived with Diluc and Crepus, he began to think of them as his family rather than his original family who abandoned him. After all, kaeya got his vision on the night of his father's death when he was fighting Diluc, after he confessed that he was from Khaenriah.

  14. Small thought. If the Loom of Fate is going to be like Irminsul, is it possible that the burning tree Dottore was at might be the AO's LoF? If so, how'd you think things developed for it to be the Fatui who destroy it?
