i think the traveler was much less sympathetic with furina compared to us viewers because we got to peak inside Focalor and Neuvillete's conversation, while the traveler was stonewalled by furina till the day they reunited. So traveler and paimon thought that being soft on Furina would just make her go defensive again, so their words and actions arent so considerate. But i know in heart they both care for her alot.
there is a reason there is usually a understudy for plays musicals and operas! this story right right is goon enough reason for it! in stead of look for a full-on replacement! the man should have mad a request to the adventure's guiled look for an understudy! for her part! and with her knowledge of it! all so as there director is gone either one of them should have step to fill that role! or all looked for a new one! who could respect the quest of the troop! as this was an finished playwright from there previous director! but mostly they need an understudy! they are a where of an underling health issue that could could act u and cause the actress to no be abele preform! so finding an understudy should not be an issue! and she should not have issue with the idea of this! more so if she truly believes she will be well enough to preform! but all so sensible enough to know she might not be! look for replacement was bad idea look for an understudy could have been a good idea! and if they had been look for a director form the start Furina might have been on bored with that idea from the begging with out the guilt trip her!
I agree that the guilt tripping was annoying and kind of mean, however It as definitely for the best that Furina was convinced to help out, Furina spent all the time since fontain sank sitting at home depressed and doing nothing but eat macoroni because she cant cook anything else.
Furina loves drama and opera, but she put limits on herself and vowed to never do it again because she wasn't sure she could do it, but the only thing that would do is make her miserable for the rest of her life unable to do what she enjoys, Furina has a limited lifespan now, she finally has a chance to be a real human so putting limits on herself is just dumb and wont make her happy.
this quest was like ripping a bandaid off, uncomfortable but needed, and Furina's happier now because of it.
I still think that the problem is only how the dialogues of Paimon and the Traveler have been translated into English; in Japanese and Spanish they are much kinder, they only try to get Furina to join in with their jokes but she is much more sensitive than others characters to play along.
Aside from all that, Paimon has always had a problem with her clichéd little girl personality who behaves rudely towards others like for example Zhongli when she called him a money leech, he asks her not to say that about him or her impressionable reactions to the food and culture of Sumeru like any child who wants to be given only sweets and no vegetables.
Paimon has begun to grow in empathy and with the translation they have taken thousands of steps back.
I just want to highlight that I see it as correct that the Traveler is calm but distant towards Furina and that Paimon is cold arround her despite knowing what happened to her.
When a third party tells you something personal about another person, they do not usually say it in a dramatic way or give details out of respect for that person; Now add it to what happened when they met Furina for the first time.
She did was look for any excuse to get them in trouble and drag them to trial (it is understood that it was out of pure panic towards someone who has been a magnet for trouble), but if you see it from their perspective: She messed with Paimon, she doesn't forget, in fact she rivals Furina's personality a lot.
Traveler was practically attacked by her again and again during her performances because he had to defend himself and then Lynney. Furina has tried to get Lynney into trouble and make excuses, then run away when she's not right; Even though everyone in Fontaine expected her to have an attitude like that, there is no very justifiable reason for her to pressure the Traveler to that point, so it is natural that I cannot empathize with her, the Traveler was much more materialistic and at the same time not he feels comfortable being her friend so quickly.
In fact, something similar happened with Ei; he was not close with her and simply limited himself to doing what Yae asked him, in the process he gave some life lessons to that hikkikomori so that she understands what the hell was happening in the world, she is not being good because he only do his part of the trait into and many people misunderstand this. Apart from this, we finally have a character who can't stand Paimon just as there were already some in Sumeru, it is assumed in other languages this is more of a joke but in English it sounds like a serious discussion, further aggravating the problem that it is not fun as Paimon is played in this translation. And it's a shame, this story could have focused better on a much more wholesome and beautiful message if they hadn't given Paimon relevance in the first place.
Sorry for the bad English, is not my native language and I still learning
When I first played the quest I straight up closed the game because I was too angry, that's how pissed off I got. I usually never play EN dub but wanted to hear Furina EN and gave it a try, but I was not expecting the whiplash I eventually got. I could've switched off to another dub by that point but I was too deep in and had to see the whole thing through with EN dub so my opinion would be consistent. Luckily the heart-to-heart conversation in Poisson was great, the cutscene was great and I love that Furina had direct confirmation that there are still people who are happy to see her.
Y’all think watching Cy yu might help with my chances to get Cyno? 0:02
I feel like the traveler grabbing furina was a little weird but everything piamon said was how she made fun of furina was disgusting.
Thank you Simba and Silvy! 🙂
Yea definitely a weird start to a character story, but the ending really redeems it
I kinda wanna have Furina hate the traveler and paimon a bit since they are kinda been pushy in this entire story quest.
I also want to see that not every archon to just be automitically nice after solving their nation's crisis
FURINA'S VISION LOOKS LIKE AN OCEANID I JUST RELISE
Seeing a bit of the Furina Story Quest as well as people’s criticisms of it, it really seems as if they tried to develop on what they learned from previous Archon depictions and story criticisms but took all the wrong lessons.
The way that Traveller and Paimon approached Furina’s new situation is in line with the “broke Archon” running joke that previous regions established (although it was less pronounced with Nahida), the issue is that the one time the game didn’t want to treat it comedically they went right on and did so anyway. They turned the meme into an actual in-character thing, not realising that it wouldn’t match with how players might want to imprint on the MC in this scenario. It’s also possible that they saw the Trailblazer from HSR being praised for being goofy, sarcastic and a little rough at times, and thought, “Hey, this is what we need to make people like Traveller more!” Maybe they saw the widespread annoyance at Paimon and basically decided to take her even further down that path because they thought it would feed the humour for people to dunk on her. But both ultimately resulted in the two main protagonists being far less likeable than they should’ve been.
Furthermore, there’s the issue of how they pushed her to come out of her shell. Furina’s situation is very similar to Ei’s but the contexts in which they exist are very different. With Ei, she remains leader despite essentially sparking a war and oppressing her people and simply retreats while Furina was forced to deceive everyone and willingly abdicates soon after. However, Traveller’s behaviour in Ei’s story quest is notably different in the sense that she nearly always has agency and leadership even in spite of the doubtful legitimacy of her recent actions and Traveller is essentially following, while Traveller takes a more active role pushing Furina past her boundaries. Given the context of Ei’s actions vs Furina’s it should’ve been the opposite, and they essentially over-corrected, seeing this as perhaps a chance to mend Ei SQ1 when each story called for more of the opposite approach. The Traveller should’ve been pushing Ei to get uncomfortable and come to terms with the outcome of her negligence and its harmful effects on her people, while they should’ve been more considerate with Furina’s situation and, perhaps, even given her the “date”-like treatment Ei’s SQ1 got to show her how much her people still love her.
On top of that I guess there’s general countervailing cultural attitudes on mental health and trauma that may have altered the spirit of the writing or the translation. East Asian countries are notably a LOT less progressive on mental health compared to the West. That does show itself here.
I have no idea how the quest is in Japanese but apparently it’s so much more polite and considerate—highly stereotypical but fitting for this scenario. Chinese is similar in words but Paimon’s more gentle tone in Chinese helps a LOT (and I generally prefer Chinese Paimon). Even that tonal factor can make a huge difference in delivery. Not sure about other languages but this seems like ultimately another translation goof, in part.
I’m aware others have thrown in criticisms so I’m not going to heap on much more than this, explaining my own personal conjectures why it was mis-written in this way.
i personally don't like the comments on aether and paimon. it's not the characters' fault. whoever the writer was messed up. i really felt uncomfortable watching and reading the chat on this video. i'm sorry but it's not something i agree with – yelling at a character that you know isn't a terrible person.
now i see why ppl are mad at Paimon still i really thought that was normal for Paimon to say. for a former bratty but still cute archon that called Paimon a floating object. XD I guess the sympathy for 500years of suffering and trauma is not worth to mess with lol
I find it especially sad is that if YOU DO ignore the beginning of the quest, it's almost a perfect quest save for Paimon continuing to be an absolute fucking menace for no reason. I don't see a reason why they can't retailor it if enough of us complain
I think Paimon and the Traveler’s methods and attitude towards Furina was very rude and their characters have been getting progressively worse for years, but hey, it worked. The fact that Furina received a Vision means she knows full well and accepts her ambition, and through the quest she comes to learn that about herself. This is what she truly wanted.
That being said the localization needs to stop writing disrespectful characters like this. Paimon is getting worse every expansion.
I hope we get a Story 2 for Furina that dose more Justice
Anyone else think Venti's line had a deeper meaning than what was actually said? He made a clear point to hint at the fact that he KNEW she had changed the fate of the world and save Teyvat…and in the same speech, admits that he wants to invite her to Mondstadt for her talents? Venti has been sus (not in an evil way, just that he clearly knows more than he states) from the very beginning, but this even more suggests to me that he's keeping something from us and down-playing his own strengths and capabilities for a clear purpose he has in mind.
Neuvillette actually says some really gentle and comforting words if you talk to him after that talk with him
I loved Furina's emotional growth and development in this quest. She practiced boundaries, self care, acknowledged her guilt and pain for what happened in Poisson. She helped the Troupe come together and had a lot of insightful things to say with her understanding of the original director. I feel proud of her for her progress with herself. The Traveler and Paimon left me with an unsettled feeling. They were harsh towards her, pushed her boundaries. When Traveler noticed Furina quietly spying on them at the beginning, I was taken aback by the way Traveler just grabbed her by the arm so aggressively and pulled her out of hiding. Idk…their part in this didn't sit well with me. They didn't treat her kindly at all. Furina herself was the best part of this whole thing.
Idk why, but I can so see cyyu pulling aether and paimon away by the ear and giving them quite the scolding like an angry dad.
I did not remember Paimon and the Traveler being this pushy in this quest. Then again I switch between JP and ENG audio with the overall language in Spanish so there's definitely something lost in the EN version. Quite sad, really.
Alright, let's do this one more time:
There's a few reasons for the Traveler and Paimon being as they are. Let's start with Paimon.
Paimon is a non-human creature. As such, she can't be expected to really understand human emotions to a great extent. The only exception to this seems to be the Traveler, who is also non-human and has also been traveling with her for a few years now. Additionally, Paimon has never seen Furina in any state aside from extravagant aside from her trial, which would let her believe that Furina's default state is just that. No matter if the Travaler and Neuvillette tell her what actually happened, she's still only getting it from a second-hand source at best. Paimon has no idea how to treat Furina, so defaults to the friendly insults and teasing that she and the Traveler throw at one another.
The Traveler, upon seeing Furina, sees that this being who was created with innocence, curiosity, and love for the world and her people, is shutting herself away in her room and only going out to shop for food. Cheap food, at that. Obviously, knowing what she's supposed to be like, the Traveler knows this REALLY isn't a good thing. Furina is wasting away her now mortal life. So, the Traveler decides to push some tough love onto Furina, but does back down when they decide it's too much. However, despite leaving, I'm certain the Traveler would have gone back at a later date to coax Furina into getting out and doing something else. Luckily, Furina's compassionate nature and love for her people pushed her curiosity to the situation at hand.
As for Furina, she had every opportunity to leave at any time she wanted. Despite all the flustering and irritations, though, she never storms out. Never yells aside from that one time with Paimon. The worst the does is put her foot down when the teasing gets a bit much for her. She, on some level, WANTS to be there, as she finally recognizes at the end. Even Neuvillette can tell that she's happier out among her people; her people who, mind you, still love her as they have no idea what happened after the whale appeared in the courtroom. The only exceptions to this are in Poisson, who are rightfully (in their eyes) still angry at her.
I would agree that we should have gotten more info on the friendship that Furina mentions with the Traveler, such as a few more passing comments about it. It's obvious that the two care for each other in some way, and both are able to acknowledge that. I think the biggest flaw was having the Story Quest take place several weeks (at least) after The Flood.
forget dehya treatment this is EI TREATMENT
Cy says the traveler doesn't have a house, but doesn't s/he have a studio apartment in sumeru for like…8 million mora a month?
18:40 Yes. You're crazy. Yes. Furina needed to apologise for that… because she's KIND. She doesn't like shouting at people. This has nothing to do with boundaries. Paimon isn't even taking her "no" for granted. She's wondering out loud what else can be done. She only pressed Furina when she got a one word response to a question that usually has some kind of qualifying information. (Plus. Paimon is more stupid than she is rude.)
You also gotta remember that, generally, Paimon's commentary is for the player only and it's usually treated as unheard by other characters. In this case: Furina was being kind for what she thought was rude on her part.
The "you don't need to apologise" attitude leads to the younger generation often believing that they don't need to be the ones to apologise. It usually just results in shitty behaviour. Furina in this scene was great.
Love the result as a furena fan, but hate the process as an introvert shut in.
1. Paimon was b*tch durring the entirety of this entire quest. I might be bias because I've hated paimon since Liyue but since then she's been so annoying. She takes credit for the traveler's actions and accomplishment. Which they didn't even want but paimon constantly brags as if she did those things instead of floating on the sidelines doing nothing. Paimon acts like she's friendly with Furina at first joking around like someone would do to a close friends, but they barely have any positive relations. Then when Furina lashes out(reasonably) she backtracks acting like she didn't mean it. She constantly pokes fun at Furina and never apologies for it but instead acts like Furina is the person wrong. Paimon is so much worse and I need the writers to cut her ego down by 99% but even that might not be enough
2. The traveler can be mad at people. The traveler is fed up with people getting him to do things and I like that, but Furina is someone that hasn't done that. The traveler is complacent and just there as Paimon insults Furina and he continues to cover for her. Paimon doesn't know the truth about Furina's backstory, but the Traveler has no excuse. The traveler is insensitive and help Paimon if anything as she guilt trips Furina and continues to push her. The traveler was written poorly for this quest. The travelr should relate if anything understanding how it feels to be forced into a position they didn't want . It makes me made that they are so rude to Furina yet they are so kind and sweet to Ei after they tried to kill them twice.
3. Furina don't apologise. Furina admits how the Traveler is the closet thing to a friend she has. So she would be easily guilt tripped by the Traveler especially since she feels so guilty about not doing anything during the flooding (since she didn't know the true plan from Focalor and even after knowing feels guilt about poisson). Furina was constantly attacked by Paimon and everytime she apologized was for things she was entitled to angry and upset for.
Conclusion: The Traveler and Paimon were written horribly. They treated her the worst during the quest excluding the citizens of poisson. The cast were respectful and were sorry when she had to break her founder for their play. Paimon and the Travler never apologized for pushing her, insulting her house, guilt tripping her, or making her break her boundaries. Paimon especially was so infuriating and if she gets worse I'm dropping the game.
Ei & furina similar & contrast but differences how view proect their people & treatment total unfairly sense ei celebrities with no price but furina doing best pay ultimate price but furina earn tons money as actress but try gain independence & ei didn't accept common sense hold on as toy people
Omg it's so frustrating watching it in English. In JP most of the time, it has playful atmosphere. And Furina the whole time is being adorable and being shy and cute. So the scene when Furina got dragged out it's funny because she act more like flustered in comedic way because she was found out eavesdropping.
It is still has dark undertone, but all and all it was so wholesome and you can see Furina found the joy of acting and performing again. It was really good quest imo (if you use JP I guess)
Literally when the vision came down I was like, “SO THATS HOW SHE GOT HER VISION?!”
I'm glad you felt the same way as I did about ENG Paimon! I don't know if it's the translation team, the directing or both, but I've mostly played in Japanese or Mandarin because Paimon is written to be bratty to a hurtful point most times. I love you ENG VAs, but the writing/directing for certain characters can often be 😬
I'm glad when I hear about you, Zach Gordon, and Joe Zieja, for example, chipping in on the way you guys feel the character is communicating, but I feel not everyone does that and things can fall to the wayside.
There's the case of Chris Hackney re-recording lines because Ayato was, in fact, not actually meant to treat Itto poorly, but they had originally recorded him to sound mean towards him.
There are several other cases in which people have felt a re-recording is in order to change the tone of things in the ENG version, at least.
Some people seem to have a really bad habit of forgetting or otherwise completely ignoring the surrounding details to everything leading up to this quest. If everything is actually considered & taken into account. Paimon & the Traveler's behavior in this quest is pretty fairly justified. Even in regards to the English dub maybe having a harsher tone for Paimon.
A quick reminder for anyone who's clearly forgotten. One of the first things that happens when the Traveler & Paimon enter Fontaine & are meeting the Hydro Archon for the first time is that Paimon is referred to as property & her constant form of movement is considered illegal due to her not being afforded any personal rights as someone's possession. Let me repeat that. Paimon was personally dehumanized, denied any human/personal rights & stated to be illegal in her natural state by Furina, herself. Long before Paimon had any chance to do anything seriously criminal or personally rude to Furina. Lyney coming up with a fun way to prepare for the possibility & get Furina to let them off the hook, essentially making everything seem like a joke, doesn't in any way change what happened just before nor does it excuse the fact that Furina has never personally apologized to Paimon for it. We can joke about emergency food or whatever all we want but, in the context of the story, even if not specifically human, Paimon is a person. Her being referred to as anything less is something that is frequently overlooked.
Another detail. Neuvillette may have seen the Focalors side of things. The Traveler may have seen Furina's memories. However, Paimon was present for neither of these interactions. Neuvillette recapped what Focalors said to the Traveler & Paimon. What the Traveler experienced was never spoken of in detail so Paimon could hear & gain a thorough understanding. What we know as players/viewers is not automatically known by all the games characters. Furthermore, all throughout the entire Archon Quest where the Traveler & Paimon are with Furina, after that first meeting, there are always more important things going on than any of their personal problems. Paimon not bringing up a personal grudge or trying to hold Furina accountable for what she did is just Paimon focusing on the bigger picture & what's most important. Since calling Furina out or airing her grievances wont do anything to help save anyone.
Also throughout the entire Archon Quest Furina is, by a considerable majority, antagonistic. She may have very good reasons for doing what she does in terms of sticking to her own thing & not befriending just anyone. There are even times where the Traveler & Paimon meet with her peacefully. However, even if you can argue Furina made the right call in keeping her secrets, the fact remains that at no point in the main story does she & the Traveler, much less Paimon, become friends. The Traveler even specifically reaches out to her to offer her support & friendship & she clearly rejects them. It may have been to play it safe; regardless, it still happened.
These facts of lacking friendship despite the offer, excessive offense towards Paimon with no apology & Paimon having little to no reason to be considerate of Furina's feelings given what we know she's actually aware of all remain true up until the start of Furina's story quest. There's also the matter of how the Traveler & Paimon always try everything they can to help people that come to them asking for it. Especially in the case of commissions shown by Katheryne's regular praise for them. At the start of this quest the acting troupe are the ones in need & asking for help. They're in a dire, personal situation they need a quick & certain solution for. The Traveler & Paimon specifically ask Furina for help. Despite even admitting she could easily solve the issue & in multiple ways that wouldn't require her direct involvement she still actively chooses not to help. She could easily solve the problem when personally asked for help & refuses. Paimon & to a lesser extent the Traveler being persistent does not make them the bad guys here. They're just trying to do everything they can to help while Furina is not. At least until she changes her mind shortly after.
I fully believe Furina wanted to return to the stage, and I love how most of the quest handled it – except for the beginning. The problem is mostly Paimon, but either she needs to be written/localised better, or the Traveller needs to tell her to stfu. Due to being a silent protagonist, the Traveller is complacent in whenever Paimon is mouthing off and being rude. Making Furina the manager/director was the best way to get her back into theatre, and her choice to step in at the end was powerful. The way she connected with the role, and swore to tell stories from the heart. Even the fact that she got heat from Poisson for not making evacuation plans – not too much, because she just doesn't deserve to suffer more. It's so unlike Ei, who got away with her negligence completely scot-free in her 1st story quest. Really, Paimon's (and my extension, Traveller's) behaviour is the only thing that bothered me.
Baffling how the writers went from peak character writing in the archon quest to making the worst story quest ever in the same patch
paimon pissed me off so much like she’s nice to dori as if dori isn’t literally putting kaveh in debt and doing illegal shit but when it’s furina suddenly she’s an asshole like what the fuck 😭
To be on the side of positivity, I also got hit by nostalgia when Furina said allonsy.
I think the difference in feel with Neuvillette is because when he asked her about a return to the stage, his interest was only for her sake, and her fulfillment. Everyone else was interested in their own ends.
