Is Natlan Region Locking Its Characters? – The Future Meta of Genshin Impact?

Having seen the exclusive interactions with Natlan units so far, namely the nightsoul blessings/bursts along with the Natlan exclusive artifacts among other things encouraging the use of a “Mono Natlan” team, I wanted to discuss the pros and cons of going in the direction of region locking.

  1. Two very important corrections that I messed up on (Ty to comments for bringing it up):

    – Nightsoul burst can be triggered so long as a Natlan character is in the party. It doesn’t have to be triggered BY the Natlan character exclusively. The “Natlan Exclusive” part is the cooldown reduction from having more Natlan units. But other characters can still trigger Nightsoul Burst.
    – Chain Breaker also gives the boost based on the number of different elements in your party.

I must’ve misremembered what they said on the livestream regarding nightsoul burst. That’s on me. As for the chain breaker I recall it being only Natlan characters in the beta description. I should’ve double checked to see if it updated. Apologies for the error!

  2. I think it's a bad thing BUT a necessary bad thing. They added (albeit horrible) endgame content that needs more characters and let's face it there are the "in skyrim i save all my health potions for the last battle that never needs me to use them" type of players who stack resources, upgrade only their main let's say Raiden and their main's team let's say the Raiden National team and literally no1 else then will complain about the game wanting them to use more character.
It's not a bad thing to be a main of a character and play them exclusively but the game and the devs want players to play more characters or at least have them ready to be played so they kinda have to "force" ppl who build more characters one way or the other and this exclusivity to the regions thing is what they do. Admitedly this is a rlly dangerous thin line they walk on and if the pyro Traveler is going to be bad then it will 100% be seen a a predatory thing since Natlan characters excel in Natlan which we just started but no1 can have them unless they paid a metric fuckton of money.

To me it's a grey area, i know it's bad and predatory and i can feel it already BUT i also understand the devs a bit, this exclusivity helps them coerce ppl to build and play something else for once instead of the same old main they did for the past 3 damn years AND it also gives them more creativity in terms of new characters, there is only so much they can do without repeating old kits and we saw that with Yelan being the Xinqiu Pro Max but then Arle is the Hu Tao Pro Max but the BoL mechanic makes her different enough to not feel the same if that makes any sense, same for the other mechanics imo and Natlan included, having more of these enables them to make more different stuff instead of copy pasting blatantly the old ones.

  3. Bro, who the hell cares?? You're complaining about not using an artifact set for non Natlan characters? Seriously, meta isn't everything and anyone and any artifact set can work. You can throw any set from up to Liyue on your Natlan characters and you'll live. VV is still the best set for Anemo and is a day one set. To anyone reading this, ignore this video and just continue to build and pull for anyone YOU want to. Region locking isn't new and/or doesn't affect or change the game in a bad way since they started doing this for a while now. I built Razor, yanfei, Qiqi, Kequiq, Charlotte and Dehya in the past few months waiting for Childe and had so much fun using them for nache or fun dumb teams. Just play and enjoy the game how you want to.

  4. slight spoiler alert:

i have this personal theory that, after the main Natlan Archon quests, or aka after the abyss’ threat within the region is diminished to little or none, since the Wyobs’ don’t need to focus their protection exclusively just within the region – then Natlan natives will be freer to traverse other regions, consequently making these “exploration skills” applicable everywhere else. for now, i kinda get why they are containing it for plot reason, but this also could be my own personal copium for it would be cool to eventually use these skills elsewhere in the future

  5. Not to mention one of Natlan enemies the Hunter-Seeker requires Natlan characters to debuff it and defeat it quickly compare to other foreign characters. Similar but not the same to Fontaine, the Arkhe system doesn't give a huge impact on foreign characters.

  6. I think its fine. just the fact every character is getting movement skills is nice compared to previously being locked to a handful of characters. As for the passive I also think its fine, we have so many characters at this point powercreep/overlap is inevitable. I think the nightsoul burst mechanic can just be a way to make a character feel more usable with certain characters. right now they certainly aren't kit defining or broken. I kind of like the idea of having a bonus for playing characters that are connected lore wise. I just hope it doesn't ever feel mandatory, as it is now I like it.

  7. Another concern I have is how tying the Natlan characters to the region through the phlogiston mechanic will nerf them too much outside of Natlan. I would love to see somehow a character or artifact or something that could act as a phlogiston battery for use outside of Natlan. After all, Furina can water walk just as easily in any region, whereas you'd beter not forget your in Mondstat when you try surfing with Mualani…

  8. Something I don’t understand (and maybe someone can explain it to me please) is this concept that “oh I’m forced to use them in this party to get full power”. Hasn’t that always been the case? We have Kazuha nahida and shenhe being essentially must haves in their niches. There’s a lot more and even some four star c6’s so what is new about this? Also the fact that kachina is frankly useless BESIDES enabling the artifact set id say they’ve balanced it decently for now atleast (hope it stays that way but we’ll see)

  9. I think it's a bad move, it means you need to have that character and they have to be in your party, team comp be damned. Needing a character you get through gacha for better mobility and QoL is just scummy. They're selling a "solution" for a problem they made and easily implement for general movement.

  10. Every time I see itto being placed with Eula and Yoimiya I cry a little, itto is nowhere close his teams require investment but they are still just as competitive as the new Xiao Plunge and Navia if you have all the pieces. I might have to start spreading propaganda for itto at this rate

  11. I lean towards its worst as its genshin's alternative version of power creep have to get you to farm/wish/use other characters after all. Imagine they just decide to make something that is exclusively only for one character whether artifact or some overly busted weapon or mechanic.

Yadda yadda yadda give them inch they take a mile or something

  12. for real pyro (arle) & hydro (yelan) so strong in natlan. I just finished building my tighnari (from free 5 star selector), and he's almost unusable in natlan. fast moving enemies, narrow area for fight, and fucking world lvl 9 fucked up my tempo. thicc ass bosses, more like fucking bullet sponges

  13. With the artifact sets, I think the same could've been said about Marechaussee at the start of Fontaine, so it's too soon to call whether this is a region lock without knowing what the pyro archon will do.

  14. I don't really have a problem with it yet, but if you make the assumptions that Natlan teams will do the most damage due to their inherent synergies, which I think is a reasonable prediction; it could be an issue if they increase the difficulty of the abyss to match that level. If top meta teams are only Natlan, it would be annoying to have to pull for them and disappointing in the power creep.
Both Mualani and Kinich are very strong C0 with very limited teammates. They have plenty of room for upgrades which could make them top tier (feelscrafting but hey).

  15. I think the region locking is a good thing for the game but Hoyo need to add something to counteract the issues brought up in this video. Having a region or two where some characters that aren't meta normally but become meta inside of them means people will be inclined to play the game more to pull the characters and build/test new teams. With the current issue of most players not being able to afford enough Natlan characters, this does become a bit of an issue, but if the devs were to give us a way to get Natlan characters easier like for example giving free limited time fates form the abyss, the BP or something like that for this year, kind of like what BA do sometimes, they could fix most of the issues with region locking Natlan.

  16. I'm sorry to say that but can I request one thing?

Usually when I listen to your videos while drawing I can't catch any words and meaning, and I think that you could try to add a bit more variations, volume changes, expression to your voice.

No trying to offend you but I personally feel like your voice stays the same throughout the video (even though your voice tries to go higher, it is pretty much the same volume, same tone, not much dynamics).
So for me there's no sentences standing out unless I'm 100% concentrated and even then there is not a lot of personality to your voice so the video can feel a bit long.

If you could try to put more like variation or "personality" (Idk anything about your personality so, I don't want you to sound unnatural) to your voice. (not necessarily energy because some monotone voices of Genshin youtubers do have personality and crispiness of pronounciation) I think I'd enjoy your videos more if the speech intonation was more varied

    That's just my suggestion.

  17. The characters still work outside Natlan so I don’t think it’s a issue they might even add away to use nite sole outside Natlan at some point probably after the natlan story is finished like maybe the archon might give us the ability to use it in other regions

  18. I don't mind natlan charactacters wanting other natlan characters for max synergy and best power.
I absolutely despise natlan characters playing differently (worse) when outside natlan

  19. Personally like this, but only if the retroactively go back and do similar stuff for past regions, which they probably won't past what already exist.
Fontaine has the Arch system, Liyue has Lithic weapons, but I like the idea of combining units for each region giving them a not substantial, but satisfying buff.
Maybe in the resonance system, they could add the buffs for using characters from the same region, not only elemental types.

  20. To me, it seems like a way to sort of side step with power creep. Mualani right now is still very strong but kinda jank to build teams with, which I think is a good thing balance wise. But I expect once we get more natlan 5 stars, her best team and possibly the best performing team in the game will be her plus 2-3 limited Natlan characters.

  21. You can definitely use Natlan characters to support non-Natlan characters and vice versa. For example, Kachina is great with Navia, Nuevi, Arle, etc. with the new set, both Mualani and Kinich really want Emilie in their team, etc. I do think that most Natlan teams will eventually have Mavuika in them but I don't see that as being much different than Fontaine characters having synergy with Furina.
