Controversy over the skin color ? Wth ??? I didn't know this and honestly it just sounds stupid.
The Neuvilette case is obviously a blunder from Hoyo's part, so yes I have no problem with how they handled it with the rollback and freemogems compensation.
But skin color ? Come on. I get it when people say "I like this design better" or "I prefer this kind of look" but outright saying "That is wrong" and trying to dictate how the design should match their preferences about how the world of Teyvat should work is just ridiculous. What's more, holding people accountable for your own assumption is just disgusting troll bored-people-who-just-can't-live-without-drama-and-bothering-others do at this point. It's their GAME CHARACTER within their GAME WORLD which may be inspired from real world places/cultures but does not mean it has to represent them.
Culture is more than just colour. It actually makes the game toxic. People will complain for every thing.Just enjoy the freaking game.

In asian cultures "white skin" is seen as beauty.
Even your random KPOP Boyband singers use makeup to whiten their skin.
And this is a gatcha game, that sells characters. So selling white skinned characters is probably going to give more sales, and more chance for a whale (which most are asian…) than selling a black skinned character.
I mean i get the whole region arguement and all, its not that i disagree on any of those points.
But at the end i think this is just a business decision on what would sell more.
And in the end, the money is the reason the game exists.
Chill out on that "colorism" issue mate.
I'm native southeast asian with tan/brown/chocolate skin and IDGAF about "representation" & "skin color" especially in Sumeru.
We can give them advices about that "small" issue & hope for the best. And no need to make it as a "major" issue.
After all it's high fantasy game from Chinese company. AFAIK more than 90% of China population are Han, so we can say that China is (leaning to) monocultural country (CMIIW).

i say this as a chinese/indo, yes i find lighter skin more attractive but its ridiculous how out of almost a hundred characters, the darkest character is literally XINYAN. i definitely arent like protesting against hoyoverse for it, but it doesnt change that its kind of stupid.

If you rewatch the other Natlan preview, you can hear a didgeridoo… last time i checked that was a traditional Australian instrument… not Africa…. seriously you all think this looks like Africa?!?!

Genshin shouldn't listen to any of the protest. It's their game and they should make with it as they see fit. Characters being a little more tanned or black will not make the game better or more fun. Everyone that says that this needs to be changed or that they are "whitewashing", are either dumb or simply lying.

The culture thing is whack. Yes, I’ve always thought there should be black characters in Genshin, but Hoyo has given its reasons. In terms of culture, it is simply just not colourism or cultural appropriation. Just imagine if there was a nation based off the UK, they released a black character, but then people said it was colourism and demanded Hoyo make them white. There would be absolute mayhem. This is honestly disgraceful how people can’t just enjoy the game, there’s always something to snap and bare teeth at. I really hope Hoyo just stick to it on this one.
It’s absolute whack is what it is. It’s not cultural appropriation. That doesn’t exist. It’s INSPIRED by the culture; it is not the culture itself. Everyone complaining is so whiny. They honestly ruin the game.
