Maybe it's supposed to be like one of those symbolic reflections you see in movies and tv shows. The kind of which you miss someone so much, you'll sometimes start hallucinating into seeing them in reflections. That's actually depressing.
Or maybe it's just your usual game glitch. That might be the more likely answer.
maybe lumine has a split personality, And lumine hallucinates that aether has been kidnapped
And at the end of the story lumine finds out that he has a disorder

I’m bad at explaining things but sometimes people will say he instead of she in the dialogue even though I have Lumine, she’s not on the opening cover screen thing, and now this. I feel like they originally didn’t intend to add Lumine or at least not make her playable but the changed their mind. Idk
First theory : maybe because they are twin sibling so every time she looke at the mirror she will she her brother because how much she missed him and worried about him.
Second theory: everything is just a hallucination and the memory about her brother is just a mere systems to cure her from loneliness
