  1. Skill variety in gameplay is a huge issue I'm having with HSR. After having played Persona and Pokemon, which are not even that complex in terms of strategy and combos, I'm just bored and frustrated with HSRs combat. This is an issue I can see only progressing, since any remotely interesting strategies and skills will always be locked behind gacha, since a single character can only have so much. And just like Genshin, it also locks its 4☆ characters behind a wall of luck, making the whole situation even worse.
This just isn't fun for me. Compared to Genshin, where its action-RPG nature brings player skill and active input into the equation, HSR will always feel stagnant unless that one new character with an ability you need is unlocked.
At this point, I'd even say Genshin has more strategy in its gameplay than HSR does. It's just not satisfying to play at all.

  2. Honestly, the fact that HSR isn't open world and allows you to climb anywhere does wonders for the environment design. The artists aren't limited by the fact that they need to make fully modelled buildings that players can interact with so the surrounding environments, especially in city areas is a lot better. "Inazuma city" is literally just like 20 houses and a palace. Whereas in Belobog and the underground feels like fully realised cities.

  3. starrails graphics and animation stiffness feels like that god-aweful Tower of Fantasy crap which came out. still playing starrail for now anyway. but genshin is still no. 1

  4. I was hoping if the combat wasn't gonna be like genshin it would be like the star ocean or final fantasy combat not straight up take turns as if this is star wars galaxy

  5. completely agree with all that was said here
i don't play star rail for that very reason
and i played only for a month in honkai impact because it was more mobile-oriented

  6. Quite a rare video since a lot of people are going through a phase of "things honkai star rail does better than Genshin "since it's still a new game, of course both games have its upsides and downsides but personally I'll be playing both. Who knows, this either might age like fine wine or milk.

  7. Whatever people might say Star Rail has better boss fights and a better MC who seems to talk more than Genshin's MC who's indirectly a slave of Ms.Paimon

  8. personally the open world exploration of genshin has always been the worst part of the game for me. i think of exploration more as checklists and 100% completions.
if it was a singleplayer rpg and not a gacha i'd like it much more, but 100% every area in genshin for primogems is just tedious.

  9. The inclusion of world quests enabling exploration in genshin (especially in sumeru) has been amazing in my opinion, it helps establish an end goal paired with a story that builds to the lore of the game. It's a shame that most players just skip the dialogue of both this, and event quests and then proceed to complain about how there's nothing interesting about the story anymore. maybe read it then?

  10. I find HSR story better from the beginning than genshin's but I love the openworld exploring factor of genshin and the story and beautiful animations of HSR.

  11. I’m more of a combat type of person. I love the combat aspects of these games, but even though HSR emphasizes combat more, Genshin’s combat system just allows for so much more freedom and definitely less repetitive. What you said is so true: Genshin’s combat system has SO MUCH POTENTIAL but no scenario to utilize it besides abyss. That’s why I feel like even though I’m playing HSR a lot right now, and I’m really enjoying the turn-based and using the characters, it will grow tedious FAST.

However, exploration for me is also very tedious. I’ve barely explored Sumeru. But when I do start exploring, it BLOWS MY MIND how much detail and effort goes into Genshin open-world. Nothing will ever beat my first experience into Dragonspine, or doing Rui’s quest on Tsurumi island (if I remember correctly).

The unique dialogue in HSR is what sets it apart IMO, as well as the much more f2p friendly experience (free 5 star light cones, and much better artifact RNG)
Character personalities in HSR feel so different to Genshin’s polite and well-spoken characters.
However, (maybe it’s just bc HSR is new) in the end I still am more attached to Genshin’s characters. We’ll have to see as the game progresses.

TLDR: I like Genshin’s combat system better and the exploration is very cool, even tho it’s tedious. The characters in HSR feel more alive tho.

  12. Well i think the comparison isn't appropriate at all lol 😂. Man comparing Arpg with turn based rpg, and comparing 3 y.o game with the not even 1 month game.. 😂😂😂 I'm kinda understand your point from the 2 videos but i must said it's still just so funny. 😂😂😂.

  13. The problem is: rather than polishing Genshin to the Max, Mihoyo decide to diversifying their game library instead. They going to launch multiple new game in near future and all of them are Gacha game. although this is brilliant ripoff scheme, we as player ain't benefited as much

  14. Now that we got HSR, I am excited for what Hoyo has in plan for Zenless Zone Zero. Also waiting for Wuthering Wave because I feel like it will be a really good competition for Hoyo's games and we really need a good competitor so that Hoyo won't monopolize the market

  15. If the last two years is anything to go by, we should already be able to see where genshin would go: maintain status quo with cheap ways to make abyss harder. Genshin is more of a cash cow than anything else compared to HSR. Let’s put it this way: genshin would impress people early on, but honkai star rail would more likely have a lasting impact on player base in the future.

  16. I still feel like comparing between Genshin And star rail Is pointless. I play Genshin when I want to enjoy some action And exploring, And star rail for puzzles, gameplay that doesn't require lot of time like Genshin And just having Fun with new game. In Genshin I just wait like robot for another update with another story but in star rail there are still things to see And complete. Music Is absolutely amazing in both games And that Is the things that matters to me as music addict… Cocolia 2nd phase music hits hard.

  17. all im gonna say: star rail should add a guard mechanic to both help put more strategy in team order, and give everyone a way to skip their turn/ take less damage

  18. Honkai Star Rail will have the same Quality for Events i'm pretty sure of that
Honkai Impact and Genshin Impact has the same Quality events
i would say Honkai Impact's Events are slightly better though.

  19. "Imagine if every Pokemon had only two attacks, and could occasionally use a third?" Well, we don't have to imagine it, because that's how Pokemon Go works. (Technically, they have one normal attack and one ult, and can learn a second ult.) All of the moves just do damage, possibly with a chance of a stat buff/nerf, making it extremely repetitive. Star Rail isn't quite that bad, but in both cases it's probably because they're designed to be easy to play on a phone.

Overall, I think the lack of immersiveness is the main disadvantage with Star Rail. It's very "video-gamey," with flat and utilitarian level design (and no climbing, jumping, or gliding), turn-based battles, and even a video game inside the video game with Simulated Universe. The writing leans so much into self-awareness and fourth-wall-breaking that it feels like it has no faith in itself. There's no world in which Star Rail would have taken off without Genshin paving the runway for it–but it might be a good diversion during slow periods in its parent game.

  20. I’m going to dispute your point on star rails events being just standard gacha events like dungeon crawls or raids. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of those but they’ve already demonstrated some over world puzzles or mini-games that could work in an event. We’ll just have to wait and see though.

  21. Genshin is my go to game to walk around, i LOVE to walk around and appreciate the environment. Even till this day i get taken aback on how good the game looks. I 100% the areas in like 2 weeks to a month because i explore so much

  22. 7:40 that's actually not fair.
There aren't any like incredibly hard choices in n the game, but it does make you think.
Seele you have to think about in which order to attack enemies.
Bronya you have to think about who to boost(like if you need heal or shield right now, or do you even managed skill points properly prior to have them now for emergency heal/shield)
You have to look atb bar to the left to count your ability points, like would you have enough to heal or defend with mc before enemies attack?
Again, not like it's 200 IQ chess level decisions, but still have to think more than in usual jrpg.

And ultimates being used in real time, ignoring turn order, actually adds a lot of possible trickery

  23. I love just wandering around aimlessly in Genshin picking up flowers, it’s literally such a soothing and relaxing activity that helps me wind down everyday and smell the roses so to speak

  24. tbh i dont really like HSR's world design approach. Although I knew it was not open world, I went in blind with no knowledge of beta, so mentally I was imagining it would be something like smaller locales that you could still wander around and explore. Think something like Tales of Arise or Monster Hunter Rise.

Instead the HSR zones are all very tight corridors almost as if meant for a roguelike game. Even if my camera is looking straight ahead, I can see the boundary walls to the left and right 99% of the time. When reaching xianzhou luofu I was kind of annoyed at how maze-like the zone layout was and to this day I still need the map to navigate it.
