4.2 Fontaine Archon Quest RECAP and Theories | Genshin Impact "Masquerade of the Guilty"

Version 4.2’s Masquerade of the Guilty Archon Quest is some of the best writing we’ve seen in Genshin Impact so far! It’s been a while since an Archon Quest has made me cry and the emotional chokehold this quest had on me was insane. In this video we’re going to go over a summary of what happened as well as analyze and theorycraft. Who is the Third Descender? Where do Visions actually come from? Is Focalors the best archon?

  1. im wondering if neuvilette will get the part 2 story quest or not like all the other archons have. I feel like it definitely wouldn't make sense for Furina to have it since she is a normal human now and I DEFINETLY want to know more about Neuvilettes dragon history I feel like there so much more we can get lore wise out of it too.

  2. Nice video, but I just think that if you're doing a video in english about the story of the game you should accept and use the official english pronunciation of the names. It's quite jarring to hear some really odd pronunciations of the names, especially if you've been only playing the game in english and you're not french or anything like that.

  3. Neuvillette's lore suggests that the archons receive anonymised requests for visions from Celestia, and they have to comply and Neuvillette also complies, but only because he likes people, not because he's beholden to Celestia.

  4. i think the Tsaritsa is trying to take over either Celestia or the other realms Abyss and Light .. Pierro specifically said that Rosalyne's resting place would be the entirety of the "Old World" .. In literal sense we can take it as the Tsaritsa invading the realm of Vishaps .. and in a metaphorical sense, Pierro could be hinting that the Tsaritsa will replace Celestia gaining the authority to recreate the world – just as how the Primordial One created Teyvat

  6. After AQ, neuvillette new story unlocked. He says that first and 2nd descender both work in collab and give visions. But since he has power, he can also do that now he didnt mention how different hid vision powers are from that of heavenly principles

  7. This might be unrelated, but just some info regarding other usages of the term "primordial," specifically in D&D. Primordial is the language that demons (not devils, those are different) speak, and in Dungeons and Dragons, Demons originate from the Abyss… I know the two universes are VERY different, but I just thought that the connection here could offer some insight (or just something to consider) for future theories. Love the videos, by the way!

  8. Could it be Natlan trying to revive King Deshrath. As we know natlan is somewhere around the desert people look similar. Sumeru desert people wanted King deshrath back Next arc is related to resurrection I could be totally wrong what are your thoughts.

  9. A lot of this really keeps pointing arrows at the "amnesia" ridden Paimon being a heck of a lot more than she seems. Perhaps the daughter of a human and seelie tasked with protecting the 4th decendent. This would explain why she helps in our adventures as we get stronger but is also the one who warns us back from the borders of Tevatt. We are not meant to leave, we are a pawn with purpose in this game of gods and dragons. Held at arms reach from our twin as motivation. I've said for a long while now Genshin has a very "everything is not as it seems" vibe and it keeps coming true.

  10. can someone explain to my why focalors had to do the entire deceiving the heavenly principles thing? like was it simply to give neuvilette his powers back so he could save the people if so couldn't focalors just do that herself as the literal hydro archon? it says that she did so to save the people from the prophecy but how exactly did she do that. the only reason why they were saved was because of neuvilette.

  11. i feel like nicole or " N" is somehow connected to the ragvindr family trough the teapots ( ik it seems like a stretch) but in "N" s backstory she lost her husband – which could be crepus but hey thats just a theory

  12. If the Gnosis are containers to seal and contain the stolen dragon sovereign powers via the innate Descender ability to channel elements, is it possible that Visions are actually granted by dragons or are given to individuals who are deemed worthy by the dragons or maybe have some draconic lineage (hence are deemed problematic to the Usurpers who have the current authority over Teyvat)?! Maybe Celestia is truly a Panopticon to contain people who are strong enough to challenge the Heavenly Principles.
I still don't get where the Abyss stands in all this. If Teyvat is a healthy processor with Irminsul doing all the data collection and registry, how can corrupt or deleted (Abyss) data pose any threat over the Heavenly principles operating system?!

  13. i got really annoyed and bored at the part where you are shown furina's struggle keeping focalor's secret. Then i realized if that few minutes of unskippable cutscenes make me feel that way. Imagine 500 years of doing that with no end in sight. A good way to make us feel Furina's struggle, Hoyo.

  14. what doesn’t make sense to me is the gnosis. the gnoses are what gives the archons their element authority correct? so if neuvillette regains full authority wouldn’t the hydro gnosis lose any significance it had to the tsarita or now is it similar to neuvillette giving someone a vision?

  15. Wait a minute, do you think visions are tied to the dragons possibly bestowing them if a human has similar ambition/desire as them? And maybe celestia watches over them and if they exert power capable or comparable to that of a god they “ascend” them but actually strip them of said power or make it to where said ascended human are under lock and key? Little mini theory I thought on the fly after seeing this lol

  16. Doesn't seem like you read Neuvillette's profile stories and they have a LOT of new lore, some really big.
    1. Dragon Authority was made into Divine Thrones. Focalors entire plan hinged on destroying the Throne, which in turn returns Dragon Authority to Neuvillette.
    2. Neuvillette's "A Fontainian Nursery Rhyme" in his profile specifies, that Primordial Sea existed WAY BEFORE Primordial One came. They were always under control of Hydro Sovereign, but when dragons lost, Primordial One took over control of them. Now, with Hydro Authority back in Neuvillette's hands he also controls Primordial Sea which is why he could absolve Fontainians sin and make them real humans, something Egeria couldn't. It also mentions that 'usurper appointed their own "God of Life", made "her" suppress the Primordial Sea and how "she" committed original sin.' it is not specified if all 3 instances refer to same entity, but if so, that would mean Egeria was God of Life.
    3. Gnoses are remains of Third Descender created by First Usurper AND Second Who Came working together. After their war, First Usurper was wrecked and couldn't control Teyvat anymore, that's why they teamed up and created Gnoses to maintain order over Teyvat.
    4. Neuvillette's "Vision" story in his profile: Visions are granted by Celestia from shards of Archon Authority, but when vision-bearer finishes their duty gods receive back bigger power. It is not specified if 'gods' here means Archons or Celestia.
    5. Since Celestia has no control over Hydro, they can't give away Hydro Visions. Neuvillette set aside shards of his powers to grant visions to those who deserve them since he acknowledges human will. Furina is first one to receive Neuvillette's version of Vision, which you can even see difference in casing: it has small fangs on it.

  17. If you are saying that 3rd decender can be light prince and in starting travler is 4th decender and he has shown that he has light element in starting and her sister is also called princess so maybe he can be light prince recarnation

  18. I have a question. If the gnosis is for holding a dragon sovereign's power, then how did focalors transfer her power to Neuvilette? Because the gnosis still existed after the iudex got his power back. And I think he said somewhere that he didn't need the power of gnosis after gaining his full strength.

  19. In Neuvillette's story about "Vision" it says that the 1st who came and the 2nd who came together made the gnoses in order to continue subduing the original order of the world because the 1st no longer could after some war of vengeance??? Can we talk about this???

  20. I am sorry if my english is bad cuz i am a irl resident of Fontaine but Furina got her vision as a gift from Neuvillette. I can explain. If you have Neuvillette, go to profile and then history ( idk if the translation is the same in english as in french so the name can change )when you have maximum affinity, you can see that Neuvillette (hydro dragon) can give part of her powers to a worthy human. Furina. Also we can see it with the shape of her vision, there are dragon fangs

  21. 21:57 the same thing is said about the people of Enkanomiya, they were regarded as "beautiful" by the people of Narukami, but that was only because of their pale complexion caused by spending their entire lives in darkness

  22. If I'm not mistaken Neuvillette's Vision story actually has another lore bomb regarding visions and who is actually responsible for handing them out, along with a few other details about Celestia. Its pretty mind blowing so I highly recommend reading it.

  23. My theory is that the Traveler and their twin are the 4th and 3rd Descenders respectively. They originally came down long before the Archon War, saw the destruction caused by Abyssal Power and the Celestial Nails thrown down, and tried to leave. Cue opening cutscene. The Twins were sent back down, the sibling of the Traveler dying not soon after. After the Traveler wandered around Teyvat, the Jueyun Karst tale plays out and Traveler and Paimon got memory wiped, Traveler put to sleep again and sealed until they woke up and fished Paimon out of the sea, who did keep wandering around Teyvat. In the meantime the Primordial One and Second Who Came took the Sibling's Remains and turned them into the Gnoses. The early Khaenri'ahns managed to get hold of another part of their remains and tried to resurrect them, which resulted in the Abyss Twin as a near-perfect clone. That's why the Abyss Twin is considered From Teyvat, they are not the original Descender entity, they are reborn IN Teyvat
