As a Day 1 player i find hard to get hype about events, because after all this time they all start feeling the same, only the new zone and the story is what i want to see
Characters?…Xianyun has nice animations and desing but i don't care about the playstyle and tbh i don't need her, Ga-Ming also looks cool and i'll pick him for free (because all the other characters are already C6); i just don't care about him…but the animations are incredible
4 out 10 in the update. If you played the game since it launched in 2020 as I have, that was me being generous.
If you're happy with this update, welp, be happy with it but don't expect it to get better because it won't not including the Lore and main.

Lantern rite will most likely be another event i'll just skip through, i don't feel like it'll be very interesting. The first 2 was already mid… doubt the third will be better…
Cloud retainer's gameplay looks pretty fun, but the problem is that she's only useful for two characters so if you're a f2p she's not someone who would be very worth pulling for unless you're a hardcore Xiao or Gaming simp. Talk about Gaming, his gameplay looks very entertaining and he's also rumored to be pretty damn good! I'm hyped for him.
New area is pretty, already heard the ost and it's not bad. Hope the exploration won't be stuffed full of annoying puzzles, confusing underground caves and hidden content like Sumeru.
We're finally getting another 10 wish log-in reward thing which is nice… Kind of jealous of star rail players tho because they get that every new version while genshin 99% of the time only gets it during chinese new year…
Free 4 star, can't go wrong with that. It's very beneficial for new players, can't exactly say that for veterans who already have most of the stronger 4 stars at c6. I'm glad they added our lion boy as an option for those who don't wish to spend on the banners.
4 star skin for xingqiu, he's very dripped out probably because he invaded Furina's closet. I appreciate that they finally gave a skin for a character who is very commonly used (sorry lisa, barbara, kaeya, ninngguang and fischl tho fish is more used than the rest) The skin selector thing was a real leak, but it'll only be for chinese peeps who buy a ps5… I'm also kinda sad because there is no new main story quest added this update. I feel like Fontaine left off VERY early and devs didn't give as much time for the story to bloom and build suspense like Sumeru's did.
I think players are disappointed because they were waiting for genshin to prove that they could actually be generous wether it be by letting players select one free skin (that doesn't even affect the gameplay opposed to obtaining a 5 star character) to maybe giving just a tad bit more primos? Instead we got the standard lantern rite rewards and more lame "quality of life" changes that nobody asked for… They butchered and completely made another system of what artifact preset was supposed to be… Like why?
As a 1.0 player i feel like mihoyo is getting lazier and lazier with every new update they release. Fontaine so far feels pretttyyy tiny especially compared to what we got in sumeru. It will only have one or MAYBE two area expansions which i doubt will increase the region's size much. Most of the events felt like carbon copies of each other in base game… Just go, whack these enemies here, obtain points, head on. They had a few unique events like the roses and muskets event (even though that also had this very same fighting mechanism). Aaand just a tiny fun fact. This current version gives significantly less primogems than usual just because 4.4 will give much more. They basically just took the primos from this version and moved it to the next. Kinda scummy…

4/10 because New Region is the only cool part. could have been a 6/10 if we got 4* skin selector.
Only thing good about 4.4 is mama bird . Everything is trash. New boss looks like re skinned sea horse boss.
tbh I'd rate the new update so far, from how it looks, a 3/10. Lantern rite is literally the same minus the skin we get for free (And the other skins we gotta pay for). The new area looks okay but really annoying to traverse so just gonna leave it for last or whenever I get to it.
As for the hate…well Im a bit annoyed. I don't think people are wrong they are just going about the whole thing in a wrong way. Im also just really angry at this stupid community for being so 'oh its okay look new area!' meanwhile that loadout update isnt even a loadout? Where are ya'll that have been asking for this update since Genshin came out? No end game content just more mini games that will go away.
Annoyed and disappointed but whatever. I wish they would do something NEW for once. Its the year of the dragon so what about Zhongli skin at least?
It sad about skin selector that Sony decided to collaborate. but I myself I’m happy for new map and extra wishes are always welcome especially when I’m saving for the knave. 9/10 I rate this update I enjoy Lantern rite

For me I’d say I’m excited because this is my first Lantern Rite and I’m also looking forward to the event quest, Xianyun story quest, new area, maybe there will be a reward thingy like the Sakura tree vanarana tree etc, and I might get Gaming from the 4* selector, oh and also Xingqiu skin
I mean it's a free game, you can just skip the whole update and wait for the next one.
To the people who dislike 4.4 well what? Like if you were angry for 4.3 that would make a little sense considering it was kinda boring but lantern rite is here and some new outfits are coming out lie at least pretend to be happy.
If I don't count in the free stuff from HSR, I would say 10/10, because I just love Lantern rite, there will be a big update in the area (so more primogems), a massive amount of freemogems from events, free Xingqiu outfit (btw, he is one of my favourite characters), and free 4* character… However, when I remember the previous Lantern rite, it was kinda the same. The only thing different is the expansion of the area. But in terms of the rewards (all of the above) there's nothing ''new'', if you know, what I mean. I'm one of the people, who really looked forward to the skin selector, even if it would replace Xingqiu's free outfit. It would be different and I would feel ''appreciated'' by Hoyo. This way, it's ''just'' another Lantern rite. So I feel like 8/10 is suitable. 😅
Personally I don't hate it but most of the events are tired as usual, I'm just here waiting for them to make a combat event without a time limit, like a boss rush or something different. These dumb little events constantly does not hold interest since even the ones they kind of bring back, are usually totally different and don't get fleshed out so they're super basic. Like the fish one looks the same as the usual firework glide track but you turn into a fish.
The new area looks cool but if you're not hyped for Cloud Retainer, which from leaks, a lot of people don't like her, it feels like the usual between region dry spells.

this is the first time im not excited about lantern rite and i played through all of them, it was my first big event back in 1.3 so it is pretty nostalgic to me but this year one is just not it
Lantern rite patches are always amazing so I’d probably rate this like an 8/10. Also it releases on my birthday.
Lol… so many people whining about free 5* or free skin selector, etc… You dont need those to enjoy the game, though? Like if you play cards, you dont expect any free stuff, right? Or if you play chess, you dont get anything for free? I have played so much of Tera, WoW and other RPGs, and you get like nothing for free… because whats the point in it being free?
I would understand if Genshin was some sort of hardcore game, but its actually easy and able to be completed with all characters… so its not like you have to have 5*s.
You just gotta plan how you will pull, which is part of the fun.
Besides that, the update seems solide 7-8/10.
Its obviously not Archon quality, but you still get free stuff, new characters, big map, story drop, boss, casual events. I would have rated if higher if I liked Ga Ming. Both his name and design just dont appeal to me. However Cloud Retainer looks pretty good.

I couldn't care less about the skin selector. I'm only peeved because honkai players are treated so well and get 5stars/10pulls at the start of EVERY new patch. in comparison, we couldn't even get a free 20 pull in lantern rite like they did during the anniversary 😒
Honestly I like what I'm seeing so far for this patch can't wait to see how this years Lantern rite plays out and the Vale looks amazing. Bummed a bit about the Skin selector thing but honestly I didn't take much stock in it cause this is a gacha game and this is just par for the course.
I wanted pants for Xingqiu, too. At least it would be something more distinct from his default costume. But it's mhy. They'll cut corners if there's an opportunity. I'm sure they're gonna make up that he's copying Furina or something in the story.
I am looking forward to the new stories and explorations tho as these events are just a checklist of chores at this point to get primos.
Honestly I keep up with genshin but it's already dull at this point, as a day one player I reached my tipping point at the third desert area, I stopped playing at that point and started only doing the archon quests because its the only thing the game has for it (furinas stories are bangers). Gameplay has not developed or gotten any more interesting, events are constant copy paste with a grain of salt more.
So since it doesn't have anything that interests me it gets a 0/10
I don't care about the copy pasted events, I don't care about the new region and most certainly I don't care about the same abyss I've been 36* in 30mins-1h

If people complain like this it's because they love the game and want it to change in a positive way, sadly it look like we need to do those kind of things to be heard.
Actually it's been 2 years i started to play and i still wait the anniversary, i've played many gacha and Genshin is the first one i feel like there's nothing to celebrate.
It look like they do not listen the community and we're facing a wall when we ask improvement, like an other endgame mode that can challenge us a bit, the only answer we got is "we do not want to frustrate players" an other way to say "we're lazy", to finally frustrate players in so many more others ways !

i say 5 out of 10 when you have a amazing idea but fall head first in telling the people that for staying with us for 3 year again, and again , and again lack luster rewards for something they consider to be as hyped as a anniversary and it a big deal to them in china to use this is saying even tho lantern rite(aka is chinese new year ) its a celebration but its really not
