How The Traveler Hides Their Identity [Genshin Impact Lore Speculation]

#genshinimpact
As we find out in the Sumeru Archon Quest, knowledge is power. So, today, I have a question – how much does Teyvat know about the Traveler? The Traveler is such a statistical anomaly that when they went through Inazuma, each person there believed that the Traveler was such a powerful entity to go against the Raiden Shogun, a literal god. Now, while their hopes were very much founded, it is important to consider that the Traveler themselves haven’t necessarily been completely transparent about who or what they are. So today, welcome to the Why does the Traveler Hide their identity, where I’m going to be diving into the Traveler as a character and this strange secrecy that they uphold as the unspoken enigma and alien of Teyvat.

  1. The calm before the absolute tomfoolery that is Sumeru Lore.

This video came after I asked myself the question "Why does the Traveler use a "fake name"?" and then I stayed up with the unfortunate thought that in al universe, the Traveler calls themselves "ventifucker" in public for the heck of it. The human mind is an enigma.

  2. Don't forget psyhological effect. Traveler and Sibling are immortsl- but their memory is not absolute. Wings of Desention speak about someone dear to him giving the cloth, but he no longer remember who it was. I belive that to protect there sanity, siblings prefer to have great time in the world for month or two and then go. Traveler is probably uncomfortable with staying this long and interacting with people. Ergo hides as much as possible to avoid close bonds.

  3. I really find it hard to believe the Traveller would just decide to leave Teyvat the second they meet with their sibling again, it just feels so counterproductive having all these characters care for the Traveller’s wellbeing only for them to jus throw it all away without a second thought. That would honestly just make me hate them.

It’s obvious that their time in Teyvat has left an impression, whether they want to admit it or not.

  4. If you think about it, it would be quite difficult for the average Teyvat resident to even understand the concept of traveling to another world. Even Zhongli thinks this is an impressive feat. So I don't think even the archons have that much power to exist outside their world. After all, they were all created by a descender aka Phanes. Forbidden and Divine knowledge is labeled as the same. Knowledge beyond the world. In Gnosticism, humans can ascend to Godhood by learning divine knowledge but no one did it because of Demiurge. If we were to give them such knowledge. They might have a chance to rival the Heavenly Principles. Which would be human arrogation in their eyes.

  5. Actually frisk’s name is frisk, you never rename frisk, the only character you do rename is chara.
At the end of pacifist, frisk, no matter how you name him, will tell toriel he’s named frisk lol
HOWEVER during a genocide route, *CHARA* gets referred to as however you named your character

  6. We really need to find out who the traveller was before ascending and getting block by the sustainer. We have very little context for that in game and itd really make the storyline feel more cohesive.

  7. Abt the age of the traveler its simply not true that theyre in the body of an adult. They lived for 500 years, but were asleep or basically in a coma the whole time. Theyre still in the body of a minor. Its so obvious because other characters see them as one, they cant drink etc. i literally hate when the Genshin community does this just so they can ship them with adults. Its literally so gross and disgusting grow the f*ck up and go outside for gods sake.

  8. Archons knew the traveller was not from Teyvat.
Teyvat is probably a prison for souls and a never ending cycle of dreams or some sort.
Possibly, Teyvat has been destroyed and the other sibling constantly tampers its "destiny"

  10. UNDERTALE SPOILERS!!
Hi completely random and not related but Frisk was a bad example because in the Pacifist route it's actually revealed that Frisk's name is actually Frisk and that we actually named the first fallen human
    um
    anyways great video!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. This reminds me of the quest where you fight the nameless samurai! He asks the traveler where they’re from (as he is discussing how he doesn’t know where his sword style came from) and the options are “…” and “I’m just a traveler.”

It felt very strange, as It had a whole cut scene (I’m still doing the quest so there might be more to it)

  12. 3:32 frisk is not "never frisk" they had the name difference cleared up in a dialogue right at the end of a true pacifist route but the name is mostly hidden yeah
nobody referred to frisk by name except flowey who confused them with chara
the name you label frisk is actually "chara"'s name
    just my undertale nerd moment

  13. Yeah but just about anyone knows the Traveler can use elemental energy without a vision. That’s a bit too flashy. That’s a huge anomaly. Can’t various parties put two and two together? And they admitted immediately when asked by Albedo if they’re from another world. I mean the Fatui do know the Traveler is from another world as confirmed in the Sumeru Archorn Quest.

  14. To me, the reason why the Traveler is hesitant to stay in Teyvat is less got to do with being a "threat to their wellbeing", but more of "meeting as little people as possible so that we don't miss each other as much when I eventually leave with my sibling, and I don't know if I can come back here when I leave" sort of vibe.

  15. my theory is that everything alien to teyvat is the forbidden knowledge that goes against heavenly principles and corrupts teyvat. so maybe if traveler told everyone their whole history, it would cause another Withering or something of sort? or maybe the laws of teyvat make them unable to do so

  16. I saw a theory that says that the reason the traveler hide their identity is to avoid unnecessary attachment for the ppl of teyvat since they're planning to leave teyvat. It's the same idea as "if you don't want to miss something don't give it a name"

  17. I just realized that our time irl and their time in Teyvat is the same as ours. To us, it's been 2-3 years since the release of Genshin — to them it's been 2-3 years since the Traveler arrived.

Now I'm happy that we didn't get a full and finished game when it released because the 2-3 years of journeying around Teyvat has been fun and exciting especially celebrating the festivals every year.
