When it comes to hate speech though, I just really don't understand the concept.
Please read me out. If you don't agree, it's cool, and I'll respect that.
I will always respect everyone of any mind, physicality, and sole.
It seems like hate speech is simply anything that someone can disagree with out of a negative emotional response. So the idea of supporting or being against "hate speech" just seems pointless.
Personally, I think everyone should just respect each other just as much as the next guy and stop being offended by stuff. No matter the belief and especially no matter the word. It's my experience that offensive words are only as negative as people perpetuate it to be so. Like "Cracker" and "Black" for instance. They used to be thought of as pretty heinous words of negative connotations. But it wasn't until people stopped caring that they became nothing more than, average, every day words.
Yes. Calling a black guy "Black" used to be more offensive than the "N word". The word "Black" used to be synonymous with darkness and evil, and throughout the world too. This is where the term "man/woman of COLOR" came from. And before then, "Brown" or the "N word" were the only proper terms to be used to ovoid offending "brown" people. Hopefully people will someday discard words like "Lin Lin" and "Ki" as has been done before and the "N word" will revert to It's none negative connotative orgins. But the idea of hate speech does no favors for such a dream of peaceful conversations.
And by the way. I am legitimately a "retard" and have the papers to prove it. It's not a bad word, people like me are not offended by the word alone. It's pretty much like calling natives "red necks". Most natives don't actually pay any mind. Only the few that where taught to be so are. Which again, is few. I myself refuse to ignore the fact of what I am or what others might think of me. And "retarded" doesn't mean "dumb" or "stupid". It literally just means autistic. It's just an unusual way of thinking that sets us apart from what would be considered normal.
For someone like me. I wear it like a badge. It's who I am in a world of clones and liers. It is up to no one, who isn't me, to decide that I should be offended over a word that "perfectly describes me". It's a word like any other word. Please don't call it "the R word" or "the R slang" and turn it into what the "N word" is today. That is not a word I want to live in.
