  1. I still got goosebumps even after listening for 10 – 15 times already.
the song are so powerful. and the story behind the story was too mesmerizing. I cannot really talk & understand Mandarin, but man, the composer & musicians did SUPER great job.
thank you for your respectful and solemn review, I enjoyed watching and listening to your review in this video.

  2. The version I saw in game had subtitles, which I feel really helps with blind reactions since there's context to everything. Some songs like the boss themes don't, but my suggestion is that if subtitles are availible maybe watch the version with them, or react to the lyrics in a later section of the video. (This is just my opinion of course)

  3. When genshin first release a teaser for yunjin (the in game opera singer) she have no music accompanying her, just her and 1 liner voice. The west players heavily criticised chinese opera, with alot of name calling.

And now? Such disrespect for other culture are really a norm for the west i would say

  4. Like you, I hadn't heard any Chinese opera before this.
Naturally, this piece pushed every single "this ain't familiar" button in my head.
But no matter how different the sound, no matter how strange the words – music is still music, and music is beautiful.

To me, this clearly shows the power of music to unite very different people in shared emotion.
Now I too must google more Chinese opera stuff.

  5. So when I first saw this cutscene after playing the story chapter, it literally brought me to tears! It inspired me to write about Chinese opera for my research paper in my music in world cultures class! It’s amazing to see it being brought back into the spotlight

  6. If u think about it. Video games have always been a lense into forgein worlds. The Japanese culture is so familiar to most gamers and nerds because its depicted so incredibly often. Genshin is like… the only chinese game that has ever done that for china. Think about how wild that is

  7. Yes! I was looking forward to this 😀 I haven’t played Genshin in a year or two, but I remember when this song came out and people were getting used to the vocals.

Some Japanese tracks, like ‘Possessed by Disease’ from Nier Automata and the Mizutsune’s theme in Monster Hunter Rise, had introduced me to a similar style of singing. Come to think of it, they’re probably worth a react too o:

  8. i don't think you need to be that worried regardless of what your background knowledge, opinion or whatever would have been. that said the effort and appreciation is of course.. appreciated 😀 it really is cool that they sometimes bombard you with both culture but also mixing and matching all kinds of styles and genres. breaking away from the things we hear every day is refreshing for sure

  9. This is not the original type of Chinese opera we know but hoyo change it to sound little bit modern to easily digest and oversea people didnt overwhelm by Chinese opera.

  10. Transmission of emotions changes depending on the culture. I cannot understand this opera song, but at least I can feel the singer is singing along the emotions of a certain story

  11. Ugh so glad you checked this out, you should have turned the captions on to hear the story she tells, it adds a lot of depth to the already gorgeous music!
When I got to this scene in the game I just sat stunned for awhile at the end scene, not wanting it to be over. I really hope Yun Jin (the opera singing character) is someone that will be recurring in the future story, I'd love to hear more from the VA who sings for her.

  12. 5:10 That remark is so true. As a matter of fact, traditoinal culture is simply out of fashion. Genshin managed to "reconnect" that traditional art style with a modern audience. Not saying I'm going to be interesting in Chinese opera after listening to this but it certainly showed noobs like me "how cool it could be".

  13. Initially there were some very negative reactions to the teasers with the Chinese opera singing style, and it made me a bit upset. I grew up having fond memories of the technique so you can understand why it hurt to see people being so repulsed by it. I appreciate you making this video and sharing your thoughts on this performance. <3

  14. Dude I've discovered you channel like, three days ago and I've watched it all. Especially from FF XV/XIV and Fromsoft musics. I think you could give a try to the Nameless King's theme from Dark Souls 3, and maybe the theme of Gwyn from Dark Souls 1. Both are powerful as well as dramatic.
By the way your video about Lady Maria was absolute, i'm waiting for the game to reworked for a release on computer, 'tis why I haven't even listened to an ost of it, but discovering Lady Maria through was beautiful.

Thank you for your content and how you are in phase with it, it brings a lot through your knowledge of music and chant combined with your passion for those games !

  15. Man this one is real beauty, I'm not a genshin player myself but this piece really sticks to me.

Also, in the case of oriental-esque music, I have a recommendation for the next react; Duskdragon – ost from Arknights event: Who is Real

  16. When hoyoverse first introduced Yun Jin and her singing I thought it was a bit weird. I had never heard anything like it but I thought it was interesting that they would put something like this in their game.
When I first heard the song at the end of the story quest I couldn’t help but cry. This piece is so unbelievably beautiful, probably one of my favourite songs in the game. I could listen to it a hundred times and still get emotional.

Anyway, thank you for all these Genshin songs recently. Just finished “binging” through them. You gained a new subscriber haha

  17. In all honesty, I completely understood the apprehension when people first heard Chinese opera was gonna be in Genshin as a lot of us only know the bad parts of Chinese culture given how little they share the good parts of it and how much politics get thrown into everything. However, many if not almost all players took a full step back and were in awe at what the actual result of adding this piece into the game did. The visuals, the storytelling and the music perfectly represented a modern version of Chinese opera and it was the first time I actually got exposed to their culture fully without propaganda from either side. A beautiful masterpiece in my eyes and I only hope they treat other regions in the game with the same amount of cultural respect because this was incredible when it first came out and still is now looking back on it

  18. This clip, the in-game bit and the concert version they posted of this song all nearly or successfully moved me to tears. It's different from western opera, but still so beautiful. The character story surely helps, because ingame you hear this after learning about the sad life of the opera's hero, Shenhe (the divine damsel of devastation). Even now it gives me chills. Mihoyo is amazing at their artistic deliveries. I wish I could appreciate the gameplay aspect just as much. This game gave me severe burnout… 😖
You should listen to their concerts! They're amazing.

  19. Not sure if you already know, or seen it, but the official Genshin channel has a bunch of live recordings of their OSTs including this Opera performance which might offer a different experience than an in game scene. As always love your videos and appreciate that you took your time for this piece 😀

  20. Your reactions and blind interpretations of pieces are really good. Must’ve been all those years of hard work!

Love the variety you’ve also introduced in the content. If you’re looking for more good tracks I can recommend both “After Despair and Hope” and “Tantal – Day” from Xenoblade 2

I think you’ll find a degree of contrast between the two tracks (and I don’t want to spoil how they fit into the game/lore/world of the series).

  21. What I appreciate the most about video games is the incorporation of many forms of art. Besides graphics, mechanics and a good story, music always played an important role in enhancing the experience.

  22. Your take on every music piece is so profound! I cannot wait to watch more of your content!
I particularly enjoy your take on these music pieces. I must admit you're the first youtuber who actually has the same take on the musicality like I had XD It's a joy to know that there is someone who thinks the same way!

  23. Idk if u did watched the videos with subtitle or not (since there's actual story along within the singing) cuz i cant see it in this reaction video and u seemed a bit confused while watching. 🤔
But, yeah. At least u delivered what's on your mind and thoughts u have before and after started watching the video and i believe ppl will understand.

And yea, my eyes still cant ignore that pikachu on the background. 😂
