As free to play i syrongly advise against preping. This is because i usually wait for review for new char. So usually youtuber will take at least one or two days to review it. Later u may still need to wait which tier is the char is it. S tier ? If u not following meta then u can prep and wish for it.

Note on your first point about the friendship-
I'd say claim it somewhat early before the update, maybe 3 days in advance. That way it's still recharging while the update is happening so you should either be full or be close to full ready for the new characters

Can someone explain why friendship XP is even discussed in videos? As far as I am ware the only thing you get is a name card at lvl 10 and there is one achievement when you do it with 3? Characters. What am I missing?
