  1. A longer video suggestion, about 25 min, you will have lots to say I'm sure! See HOYO-MIX at work… "Travelers' Musings — Behind the Scenes of the Music of Inazuma | Genshin Impact"

  2. Some context: The first track is the actual boss theme, this is what you hear when you fight the boss at first and anytime you rechallenge it via "weekly boss fight"
The second part is story exclusive and cannot be heard anytime else. And is specific to the "this is the counterattack" situation it is. The culmination of 5 acts of buildup to this one fight.

  3. I only really listen to Genshin music Mostly (Genshin actually pushed me to actually appreciate music) but I never really Deep Dived into it.

I would actually love it If you tell Tidbits about Music Theory here and there.
I don't have much free time because Of College but maybe I will deepdive in coming days.

When the Natlan theme got mixed into the second half is when I squealed in glee… on the inside.

  5. Thanks for sharing your insights. I vibe with you on the familiar approach in this boss theme. I love Genshin and have for years now, but I'm a bit worried about how "safe" the latest round of its music has sounded. This is Natlan music – supposedly African/South American/Australian/American – and meant for an ancient boss from five hundred years before. Where are the world instruments? The non-Western modes and scales? The unexpected and jarring timbres?

I know the second "phase" you listened to here isn't part of the boss theme proper, but the pop rock it and the Mavuika trailer have featured sound more like "generic DIsney fireworks soundtrack" to me and less like the uniquely and unforgettably Genshin sounds I've come to love. Maybe it will grow on me over time, though?

  6. 6:30 Alright so im not the only person that got MHA "you say run" vibes from the beginning of this phase. It's just a heroic music trope i suppose. Really love the use of the Natlan leightmotif with the energetic vibe, sort of a revitalized feeling from the first phase.

  7. Really appreciate hearing your analysis. The first track is what I would say is the actual boss theme (and it's the one you hear when it becomes a repeatable boss). It's a great OST, but it's the type of thing players have come to expect from Genshin.

But the second one represents "us" (the player and the main characters who allied with the player), so it's more heroic, as well as representing the shift in the fight from when the boss has the upper hand to when we gain the upper hand. Normally Genshin's boss themes center more on the boss. They're forboding and ominous and dark. But this is the first boss in Genshin where the change in music actually represents the heroes instead. A lot of players say that the Natlan storyline is very "anime" and I feel like even the music shift here showcases that. The second track gives me the same vibes as watching the big finale at the end of an anime where all the protags defeat the villain.

The other thing that makes the second track special imo is the lyrics. So yes, most players won't understand the lyrics as they are in Swahili. However, we've heard the same exact lyrics multiple times before in the story, during important moments, as it's part of a Natlan chant called the "Ode of Resurrection". So when I heard those lyrics kick in, I immediately recognized what they were singing, and believe me, I almost lost it while playing. It was such a hype fight.

  8. The whole theme, to me, is a Square Enix reference. If the first part is a Final Fantasy final boss, then the 2nd part is the Bravely Default/Octopath Traveller final boss.

  9. The music for this boss might try to sound epic, but it's also just so average and uninspired. It's not like i ever said that about other bosses in Genshin.
The whole Natlan just seems like one big Cliche.
